Hello Julia. The Food Safe Finish would be fine to use on the surfaces that come into contact with food, but we would suggest using the Microcrystalline Stick Wax for the buffing process. None of the waxes supplied in the box have been tested as safe to use with food products, and the Friction Polish would not be food safe. I hope this answer helps.

Love this kit, best purchase I have made recently. Finished of my resin projects amazingly well. Could not be without it now

Thanks for this, I just bought this kit and excited to try it tomorrow! I have a question about the compounds and carnuba wax - are they ok to use on something that food will be served on? If I used food safe finish or friction polish and then applied this buffing system on top would it be ok to serve food?

I have ordered and received this product now, I have no lathe but will use with my electric drill. I want to use the Microcrystalline stick which I have just ordered too. Do I use very little as you did with the White compound - or be very liberal loading onto the wheel as you did with the final wax?

Hi Barry. Use the Microcrystalline Wax Stick quite sparingly, this will give better results. You can add more if you feel necessary, which is easier than trying to remove too much! Does that help? Terry

@@chestnutproducts3097 Thank you for the speedy response. I will try that then when it arrives. I very much look forward to taking my woodcraft hobby to the next level. "Tighten the chuck up" has become my new catch phrase :)

Great kit, but what about the inside of a bowl? Maybe the Beall buffing system suits better for this purpose?

As far as I understand it, the basic Beall system is much the same. We have Dome Buffs that fit the same mandrels and use the same compounds as the wheels; these are perfect for buffing the inside of bowls. Video coming soon!

Not everyone has lathes - if buying this to use as I did with an electric drill, the large mandrel is an expensive door stop as it wont fit your drill chuck. A 450 Watt basic drill turns at 3000 rpm - says on the buffing pads 'MAX 1500 rpm'. So if your drill is not a variable speed model, then you will need to either buy a variable speed drill - or buy a speed controller for your existing drill. Back to shopping for me before I can use this.

Hi Barry. I'm sorry you're disappointed with the kit. We do say in the video the mounting sizes for the Large Mandrel and the speed the wheels are rated for. All the items are available separately as well as in the kit, so there's no need to buy parts that you can't use. You should have the option to return the kit if it's not working for you. Again, I'm sorry to hear the kit isn't suitable for your needs.

@@chestnutproducts3097 I found the video after I had made the purchase. I hadn't realized my drill -and indeed any basic standard drill - turns at around 3000 rpm, twice the optimum speed. Its not something I have ever had to think about and I felt it was worth adding this information in case anyone else comes down the same path. Its worth checking your chuck max size and drill speed as this may well not work for you as a kit. Might be something that could be added to the website/product information, to educate and forewarn those who are not wise till after the event. It just says can be used with an electric drill. I will shop around for a speed controller which seems to be around £20 range. Then I can use the smaller mandrel with the corded drill. I did a work around as I had a cordless drill that was much less powerful and Max speed was 1500 rpm. I clamped it in my WORKX Jawhorse and had my son operate the trigger off and on so that I could have a go at polishing my latest creation. It did the job nicely. I'm just waiting on the Microcrystalline wax to arrive now to finish off. I'm not saying this doesn't work - it does - my project piece is gleaming. However buyers beware if you are a hobbyist with no lathe and intend using with the corded electric drill and choose the kit form. The large Mandrell most likely will not fit, and you will need a speed control device as standard corded drills are much too fast. The pads and compounds and smaller mandrel do fit and do work as they should in polishing back a final piece. I'll contact CP and see if I can send the new large Mandrell back against a credit note as I'm sure I'll be back for other things in the near future.

@@BarryM60 Thanks Barry - I'm glad you've managed to find a workaround and the results are speaking for themselves. You make some good points and we'll adjust our website text to make it clearer that it's a lathe based system primarily which can also be used on a drill (in a more limited manner). Do get in touch via email and we'll try and work something out for you. Thanks, Terry
