Wow didn’t realize it was this easy to make! I’m definitely gonna try this. Btw we use sticky rice for a sweet Filipino dessert called suman malagkit. We boil the rice with sugar and coconut milk before wrapping in banana leaves and steaming. Sometimes I add a slice of jackfruit inside with the sweet rice.

Thanks for sharing with me. That definitely sounds like something I’d love to try! That reminds me of a Thai sticky rice dessert with mango and topped with coconut milk. So yummy too!

We Thais also have a recipe like suman malagkit. But instead of jackfruit, my family uses little Thai bananas and the bananas have pink flesh instead of white, so the contrast against the rice is nice. Sometimes we'll add some black beans to the rice mixture too, which adds another colorful contrast, plus textural and flavor contrast as well!

Homemade ones are even more delicious! If you reuse them, the aroma wouldn't be as aromatic as the first time, so I wouldn't suggest reusing them. ☺️

Can they be frozen after packing them into the banana leaves? Or would you suggest steaming them first, letting them cool, and then freezing for future use? Also, what brand of sticky rice do you usually use? I always see the ones branded as “sweet rice”….wondering if that’s the same.

You can do it both ways. If you steamed it first, then the next time when you eat it, you can just simply microwave it. If you didn't steam it, then the next time, you just have to steam it for about 1 hour. Both long grain and short grain sticky rice are ok for this recipe. Sweet rice is a type of short grain sticky rice from Japan. I don't have a specific brand that I go for. Have fun cooking! :)

Hello Cici! Just a quick question. If my panasonic rice cooker has a setting for "Sticky rice", should i use that instead or go for the white setting? Thanks for your videos!
