The 1970 Plymouth Cuda is one of the most sought-after cars from the muscle car era. However, when Chip Foose looks at the iconic design he sees three things in need of changing. Not one to make changes for no reason, here is what he changed and why.

when i watch Chip draw- (especially in fast motion from the aerial camera angle), reminds me if a CNC machine- he has robotic like accuracy in that connection from his brain to his hand. You have an amazing gift and the talent and intelligence to make an amazing career out of it. i hope you are a happy person because you deserve it. your work ethic is also off the chart. nit sure if that's a blessing or a curse. ❤️🇺🇸

Agreed and the door handle was an innovative design at the time and still is in my opinion...flush with the body looks great. I just purchased a 73 cuda 340 slapstick 3 speed. Will be restoring it original. Love that car!! Want it to look factory but will place updated bushings...and a 2500 stall speed.

The doorhandle does look a bit too square and big for that car tho, plus i like the clean look of no handles at all, so that's one thing i'd change

its one of very few if not the best looking car of all time,i would sell my soul for a lemon twist 1970 aar cuda.its the #1 car for me,i always wanted one since i got driven to Sunday school at 5 years old in 1970 in a 70 aar cuda in lemon twist(brand spanking new 340 six pack 4 speed).i also ,loved the snake and the mongoose (cuda and demon)and had both hot wheels cars.being a kid i of course destroyed them with hours of play in the sand box and now if i still had them the pair is worth maybe $5000(for 2 hot wheels cars,lol)

Not sure if they are still around, but I'd like to hear from the Chrysler Designers to explain why they did what they did - taking into consideration that they had to do small things to differentiate the Barracuda from the Challenger. With that said, the '70 Cuda & Challenger are pretty much perfection in a pony car.

I'm going to guess the front overhang and wheelbase setup had most to do with load bearing, as moving the front axle line forward of the motor changes that dynamic a bit, and the shorter wheelbase is easier to make turn quickly, without nervous feeling quick ration steering boxes. This was before a lot of improvements in steering systems, like variable assist and ratio. The bonus for Chips alterations is that it would ride better and be less prone to have the rear try to pass the front.
@scarbourgeoisie
@scarbourgeoisie 4 жыл бұрын
SirEuchre Foose is a designer, not an engineer. Everything he does is for aesthetic purposes. Most serious Hot Rod Designers hate the long front overhang that cars from the 60’s and 70’s had. So if they can move the wheels forward and increase the fender length from the door jamb to the rear of the front wheel well, they’ll do it. Ring Bro’s. did the same thing with their Prestone Javelin.

I had a 70 Cuda. I never saw another like it. It was beige in color had a darker brown vinyl top, spoke hubcaps a luggage rack on trunk, duel non functioning hood scoop, turning signal indicators on fenders a black stripe along both sides w/383 at the end. It had 5 speaker am/fm sound system a slap stick trans and a 383 super commando motor, 4bbl carb, duel exaust, electric windows and by pulling door handle courtesy lights on the dash and key slot. Oh yea and fog lights. I bought it used with 70k miles on it.
