Chockfull of Surprises. Minute Recipe: Asian Chicken Livers. Surprising tastes, tricks, and techniques abound in this show as Jacques checks the labels on canned ingredients to make Pumpkin Gratin. He hides treasures inside Tomato Surprise and naps the Grilled Striped Bass with Romesco Sauce. To complete the menu, some of the best Californian brandy made makes its appearance in Cherries in Armagnac Sauce with Pound Cake.

From childhood to now (85 years) Jacques has had a very interesting and highly successful life. If you take the time to read his autobiography, you will be amazed at his achievements and how he overcame obstacles that would have deterred the average person. He reinvented himself multiple times, challenged himself willingly, and accomplished what he did while still remaining humble and down to earth.

Growing up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, we only got three channels on the TV in the late 80's and early 90's. Luckily, I was able to watch Mr. Pépin on one of them. How I wish I could go back in time and enjoy those simpler times. I remember thinking then about how I could not wait to grow up, go to college, and see the world. Now, I miss the farm chores, growing and tending the garden with my Dad, and enjoying his company along with the slower pace of life; however, it fills me with a little regret that my own children will never experience what I did. Watching him cook now brings back so many wonderful memories. Thank you for putting up videos of him cooking.

Me, am an unimaginative cook -- but, slowly through, watching "fast food my way" am beginning to put together some tasty -- Easy -- wonderfully nutritious meals for one or two or more. And, of course, the easiest part of any "my way" meals is the opening of the wine -- that I can, like Chef do hands down - ha-ha! Happy eating!

I love these shows - always fascinating, the charming Pepin. My favorite here was the fish, that looks wonderful - I’d love that, but without the brown sauce, please. Once I looked at that sauce and it occurred to me it looked very much like something else, there was no way I could eat that. But that lovely fish would be great without it! We used to make Cherries Jubilee out of those canned Oregon cherries - the recipe wasn’t much different from what the Chef uses here. It’s delish!
