I piece with 50 weight cotton thread (either mettler or Essential thread from Connecting Threads) but I love to do my quilting with Isacord thread. It is thin but strong and glides through my machine (especially when I FMQ) beautifully.

Thank you so much for your explanations! I finally get it! I am actually doing some hand embroidery and I don’t really like the regular DMC thread. Now I am confident to buy some other thread online, thank you!

great informative video. one question. would it be ok to use a 40wt for the bobbin thread as well when quilting?
@NationalQuiltersCircle

Hi,Yes, you can do this. It is sometimes very common for quilters to use the same weight of thread in both the needle and the bobbin as this can help alleviate any tension issues caused when using different thread weights.

Very useful , I work on Sweet 16 Handy Quilter and love using Madera threads. Sometimes I find the thread breaks a lot. Do threads have shelf life? Your reply will be appreciated. Veena

Hi, If stored properly, threads can last for years and years. The most common issue that causes thread breakages are dull needles or having your needle tension too tight.

Is there a difference between threads for the machine piecing vs. machine quilting?
@NationalQuiltersCircle
@NationalQuiltersCircle 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, generally there is not a different in the thread type, but rather the thread weight. Many quilters piece using a 40 to 50 wt thread and they may choose to use a lighter or heavier thread when quilting, depending on how much they want the quilting to show.

I’ve been told not to put “fuzzy” thread through my machine because it would build up lint in the machinery. Is this true or just a way for the store to sell more thread?
