@@darnellwilliams8783 You mean if he chose championships over stat padding and trying to be the star. Melo would've been the third best player in that team and I don't think he would've taken well to that role at that time. He was too into himself. Also, his defense.

The thing about Bosh was that he was unselfish enough to be the third option on a Miami heat team, and he especially helped big with winning those 2 rings, Melo was on Okc, but he still wanted to be one of the big stars instead of come off of the bench and his ego got the best of him

Expanding on the "guard, forward, bigs" idea, it seems helpful to think of six positions: 'pure' 1: Nash, CP3 1-2: Iverson, Oscar Robertson, Steph 2-3: Jordan, Bird [or a 3-4, because the 3-pt line was less relevant in the 1980s] 3-4: Barkley, Elgin Baylor, LeBron 4-5: Duncan, Garnett 'pure' 5: Shaq, Wilt, Admiral, Kareem There are a few 'pure' 2, 3, and 4s: Reggie Miller, Dominque Wilkins, and Karl Malone. I think a player has to be somewhat exceptional to have a singular position, giving the team less flexibility. These three, for example, succeed at the, "You had one job to do" idea. Since the sixth man even has an award, having 6 spots in the 'line-up' makes sense. Any one of the six can sit and the team can keep on humming. For the Heat, it is easily Bosh >> Melo. If there was a "Top 5 most self-centered players" ranking each year, over the past 15 seasons Melo, Westbook, Harden, and Kyrie might appear the most often. Bosh, on the other hand, was willing to go from the main man on his Raptors team to the third option on the Heat. I have a difficult time seeing 2010 Melo doing that without huge drama.

Tim Duncan, as great as we all agree he was, still seems so underrated to me. That dude went 5-1 in the Finals, played without star teammates most of those years, dominated in the tougher conference, has an argument as the best defender of all time, and STILL many people wouldn't even out him in their top 10 when realistically he might even be top 5.

He was all NBA before coming to Miami. It's not that hot of a take. I would take Bosh over Melo, if he hadn't gotten blood cuts, that Heat squad with Wade and Hassan Whiteside could have made some real noise in the playoffs.

There was some difference between PF and C in the 00s. It wasn't like today for PFs yet but there was the general expectation that a PF would play outside of 5 feet sometimes and be a few inches shorter than the C. Cs didn't have to and very rarely did.

Bosh was absolutely integral to Miami's scheme as a fluid and mobile defensive anchor, allowing LeBron who was a monster capable of truly defending 1-5 back then, play as the Centerpoint of the Defense from the 3/4 positition. If you remove him from the equation and replace him with a traditional triple-threat mid-range volume scorer...yeah the teams defense tanks. Even if Bosh was never a truly elite defensive force, he filled exactly the role that was needed and Melo couldn't do that. It's no hate to Melo, he's an all time great and I'd say in a vacuum for sure a better player than Bosh. but it comes down to team construction and fit more than anything

Trae is definitely overrated by the 2K creators. They have him and the Hawks looking like juggernauts in damn near every 2K sim that I've seen. Jokes aside, I think Trae is more underrated now than overrated. The weaknesses in his game are what they are, but not to the point where so ma y people should dismiss his talent and his impact. Also, I think there's merit to saying that Bosh is better than Melo. Melo was more talented, and we got to see him shine on his own, but Bosh did have a more winning style than Melo did, especially defensively. Not to. mention his willingness to accept a leeser role in the service of winning.

Gonna say now that Melo was the more talented player, but I see no issue with ranking Bosh above him. Better defender and rebounder (comes with a big to wing comparison, but Melo was also poor defensively and a slightly overrated rebounder), and was an important piece to four finals teams, winning two titles in the process. After his Raptors days, the stats weren't as gaudy, but Bosh was a winner

The 5 best centers ever are Kareem, Bill Russell, Wilt, Shaq and Hakeem. No PF other than Timmy gets close, and if I had to make a snap decision, I'd put him above Shaq and Hakeem. After Hakeem, you got Moses Malone as guaranteed greater than KG and it's a strong argument with David Robinson. I'd personally have KG higher than the Admiral but that's personal preference, but Kareem-Bill-Wilt-Timmy-Shaq-Hakeem-Moses-KG-Admiral as almost locks in my view for the top 9 big men of all time, and then for the 10th spot you can go with guys like Jokic, Nowitzki, Bob McAdoo, Dwight Howard and those level of guys.

The parity rn is crazy. 50+ is a TON rn. For context, here’s the only teams with O/U’s of 49.5+: PHI, CLE, PHX, MIL, DEN, BOS. If you’re familiar with how vig or “juice” works, here’s the lines below. I wrote them down in early Sept like I do every yr. I use DK, so could vary slightly from place to place. PHI: 49.5 O -105, U -115 CLE: 50.5 O -110, U -110 PHX: 51.5 O -115, U +100 MIL: 52.5 O -120, U +100 DEN: 53.5 O -115, U -105 BOS 54.5 O -105, U -115 FWIW OKC’s is (or was) 44.5 -110 on both sides. Edit: just checked, you can get over 47.5 at +180 on DK. 50+ wins is +380. 55+ +1100.

There is a big difference between your clickbait title and the "hot take" that was made. The take is absolutely true: Melo, especially in these years, needed the ball to go to him to score and create for himself. I am not sure he would have been ok with being "Olympics Melo" in the NBA and staying in the corner for Wade& Bron to create for him. And in defense he clearly would have been a weakness instead of Bosh being a strength. Then again in 2012-2013 you would have had 3 of the 10 best scorers in the League on the same team so they should have won too.

Trae Young averages terrible shooting percentages, both at the 2 and 3. Last year he averaged 33% from 3 and 43% overall. That was one of his worst years, but in all but one year his averages are similar to that. This would be redeemable with his playmaking (he averaged 10apg) but for someone who shoots around 20 shots a night and is a liability on defense, he’s ultimately a liability to his team.
