Nice! I wanted to breed a Blue Dragon and a Red Dragon together to get a Purple Dragon, so I made the breath weapon a straight line of lighting, that had a sort of fire infused in it. It did more lighting damage then fire, but it also made the first person it hit get put on fire.

There *were* Purple Dragons once upon a time (one of the previous editions but I can't remember which). They were Underdark-dwelling beasts who love to collect knowledge, secrets, and treasure, and are very manipulative and great liars/persuaders. They often have dealings with deep gnomes, drow or duergar solely because they love to trade secrets for more secrets and treasure. Their breath weapons are unique in that they are a) untyped, and b) can be either a line, cone, or Area-of-Effect breath (the dragon chooses one of these three). If you wanted to convert that into 5e you can probably turn that untyped breath weapon into a force damage breath weapon.

I really like the idea behind the silver dragon. They are smart enough to make their disguise work and they could act as a mentor figure and caller for adventure for the majority of he campaign just to eventually show his true form and fight with them aginst a thread even he can't beat alone. You can even give slight hints about his true identity like a feint smell of ozone when he is near.

Alex Bermann that is like the Fierkran quest in Baldur's Gate 2, only he revealed himself to be a different type of dragon. I don't want to spoil. It was cool that they gave you the option to fight him after the reveal though. Of course you choose to fight him though just for his +5 Holy Avenger!!!

One of my favourite items I ever had as a character was called The Blade of the Bronze... gave the wielder immunity to Lightning damage and could fire a lightning bolt... it contained the soul of a dying bronze dragon who wanted to have his soul crafted into a mighty weapon so he could fight until the end of a particularly nasty war. Unfortunately he had be made into a short sword which he took as a great a front and used to attract our enemies to us by shouting to them...

Going alongside green dragons using chlorine breath to create hydrochloric acid, what if green dragons made lairs only slightly bigger than they are? They just collect a knee-deep layer of water inside and their natural chlorine breath makes it acidic. It slowly increases in potency as the dragon ages, starting with a cramped boss fight in skin-irritating water against a youngling but becoming a massive lair dripping with deadly flesh-eating acid as the dragon grows. The dragon, being born and raised in acid, enjoys using its own lair as a torture chamber where it basically dunks its prey in the hyper-concentrated acid until what's left begs for mercy. The fumes radiating off the cave drive wildlife away and eat at the very stone of the entrance, making the whole cave look unnaturally smooth and tainted with sickly colors. (it defies the RAW saying they have no resistance to acid, but chlorine is poisonous AND acidic so I'd rather fudge them to resist corrosion but not deal it with their breath. That way players still know it as a poison dragon but it can survive in its own caustic lair.)
@scottl8944
@scottl8944 7 жыл бұрын
liger04 That's a really clever idea but there's one slight problem. Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid which means it breaks apart 100% when dissolved. This means that when chlorine is introduced to the water it won't reform so you'll just have a solution of chlorine. Also chlorine is only really poisonous when breathed. A better way to implement your idea would be to have hydrofluoric acid instead. This is a weak acid and incredibly poisonous even when touched. This way it would be caustic while walking through and poisoning the pcs. Even contact with the skin for a short time can kill an adult human. Hydrofluoric acid is a gas at room temperature so they would have to have breathing apparatus in the cave and maybe special suits or spells to protect them from the water. This would hinder their armor class, their dex, and their perception making the fight extra hard. Next time I dm I'll definitely be adding a full assortment of chemical weapons. Thanks for this idea :)
@freeinformation9869

Just go with the idea if it makes use in your campaign, but... ... dragons don't breathe their breath weapon. They breath air with lungs. Dragons breath weapon originates in a special gland organ that they only use for these attacks. That is also why they need to "recharge" after a breath attack. The only reason it is named "breath weapon" is because it projects from their throats. You can read more about Dragon anatomy in the D&D dragon lore source books.

Reading through the Bronze dragon section in the 5e MM, it got me thinking about making it a banker. I've been thinking about dragons controlling banks - even before _Kill Six Billion Demons_ did it and made it awesome - but I specifically would use a Bronze dragon because of their connection to the sea. My idea is to have a Venetian style trade empire, and the canal-filled city (naturally the underwater parts are populated and maintained by Tritons and other merfolk) has this prosperous bank. And the owner of the bank is secretly (or not-so-secretly) a Bronze dragon. The dragon can polymorph into a humanoid, so he can deal with paperwork and sit on the council of merchants that controls the state. Maybe when the Bronze dragon has kids, he sends them off to head branches of the bank in other trade cities controlled by the state.

I wish you'd gone into more detail, possibly made an entire series talking about all the different dragons of D&D, but this was helpful. I've never really been exposed to the dragons of D&D, only the more bestial dragons of common fantasy, like they are in Magic: the Gathering. As a relatively new DM, and with one of my players being a DM himself, I feel like there's a certain expectation for how the dragons of D&D are supposed to be.

Brass dragons are good bois. Whenever I’ve had a campaign with one they’ve always ended up being good allies. One young brass dragon named Aetra was captured by a hobgoblin/Orc alliance and bound and used as a cannon. My party killed all the hobgoblins and we freed the dragon, he was so thankful he flew the party back to the island two of our characters were from and guarded the island. Aetra is a mate. 10/10 good dude

Maybe the reason there are so many dragons out in the desert is because that it feels warm for dragons there or is an ideal place to raise young. I mean, red dragon eggs have to be kept in open flame for over two years before they even hatch, so a hot environment may be necessary for a lot of dragon species.

As I recall Orange Dragons do exist, but I think they were a Dragon Magazine creation, as I've only been able to find mention of them in the 3.5 Dragon Compendium. They seem to be these sort of weird looking flightless dragons, much like Brown Dragons, except they live in forests. Oh, and their breath weapon is particularly bizarre: they breath an oily, sticky compound that reacts explosively with water and air, and so explodes once the oil evaporates (which takes about 2 rounds).

There are two Ruby dragons, a Mystaran one and Sardior, who lives on the "red moon" which is actually a giant floating palace made of rubies. Also the Amethyst's breath weapon mentioned isn't what it has in 3rd edition, which is a beam of concussive force. And, again, there are TWO orange dragons, one that is a crossbreed between a red and yellow dragon, although not the same yellow dragon mentioned in this video (there are three different kinds of yellow dragon) and another one which can change its color like a chameleon that only appeared once in Dragon #62 for 1st edition. Also that's ABSOLUTELY not it. There are literally hundreds of dragons in d&d and you haven't even scratched the surface. Whole entire families went unmentioned here; no planar dragons (too many to list), no ferrous dragons(iron, cobalt, nickel, tungsten, chromium, lodestone, 6 others that are extinct, and an unknown unique that after dying possesses the bodies of great wyrm iron dragons), no chinese/lung dragons (t'ien, pan, shen, lung wang, li lung, chiang ling, tun mi lung, and yu lung which is the immature stage of all lung dragons), no linnorms/norse/scourge dragons (corpse tearer, midgard, dread, grey, frost, flame, forest, rain, sea, and land), no catastrophic dragons (volcano, blizzard, earthquake, wildfire, avalanche, typhoon, tornado), etc. etc. etc... Then there's the rest of the chromatics which no one mentioned, including multiple versions of yellow, orange, purple, brown, and grey, a pink dragon, crossbred chromatic dragons, and of course "chromatic dragons" which in standard d&d there is only one individual of. Then you've got song/were, rain, dzalmaus, brainstealer, a couple different night dragons, electrum, orichalcum, the different space dragons like sun, moon, and an air dragon that just resembles a floating diamond, mithril which was a space dragon and became a metallic dragon in 4e, faerie dragons which started as true dragons, became dragonets, then went back to being true dragons when they were made planar, a couple of obsidian dragons, some breeds only found on Krynn like sea, brine, amphi, and spider, the Mystaran dragons who have share the same colors as some of the other dragons but are totally different, all the extra gem dragons published in Dragon magazine as sequels to the original neutral dragon article which includes pearl, jade, jacinth, amber, moonstone, and beljuril, all the weird new planar dragons in 4e like the deathmask dragon and wretched dragon... Really just a totally pathetic attempt all around. F - - I'm disappointed, see me after class :/

I love your guy's content, any chance you have considered coming back and doing a longer video on dragons? Something like what you did with Hags and Aboleths I loved those and they have helped me so much with working out ideas.

Can you do the Asian Dragons? ie Tien Lung, Shen Lung etc... I think they were in Fiend Folio? It would be cool to see a separate video for the Gold Dragon like you guys did for the Red Dragon. I always found it interesting that the Golds were depicted as Asian Dragons in 1st and 2nd edition and then were changed into a more western look in following editions. Their 3rd edition look was always my fav.

I imagine an Orange dragon would be red and yellow babies. So either the perfect hybrid can breathe shards of glass... or the ones of the shittiest combination die because the scorching sand + fire just makes a clump of glass in their throat.

Web DM if its possible I want a more detailed explanation of this topic don't get me wrong this the perfect mix of information and entertainment but I would want more structured conversion of this with timestamps of each explanation of dragon like I would LOVE to see an hour long version of this I know it isn't exactly an easy task but I would appreciate it so much
