There was a joke in Robocop 3 that I thought was amusing. It was the one where a guy tried to rob a diner at gunpoint, with it being entirely full of police officers in full body armour and the clerk said "What's it like being a rocket scientist?". That joke made me at least smile.

Hollywood must have short term memory loss, as they keep believing that toning a movie's rating will guarantee large profits. 1) A movie's rating has nothing to do with how much money the movie will draw 2) As Deadpool has shown, R rated movies can rake in cash. So they shouldn't worry if a movie is rated R.

Don't forget The Dark Knight Returns. But yeah, with the exception of maybe 300, pretty much all of his work post-Sin City has been utter garbage - The Dark Knight Strikes Again, All-Star Batman and Robin and, worst of all, Holy Terror. Miller, upon finding out that his script was yet again heavily altered from what he originally wrote, swore off Hollywood until his collaboration with Robert Rodriguez on the film adaptation of Sin City. The reason a lower rating arguably worked with the Fast and Furious movies, (I say "arguably," because I know there are some people who preferred the first one) is because it was a relatively young franchise that was still discovering its identity, but Robocop, Die Hard and The Terminator are considered action masterpieces, you just associate them with that intense grit that made them memorable.

After "RoboCop 3" bombs at the box office in the 1993/1994 year, filmmaker Fred Dekker has finally returned to short films while Frank Miller was focusing on writing comic books and several cast/crew members found some work with new projects. MGM owned the "RoboCop" franchise since 1997 and Sony Pictures Entertainment and its divisions which including both Sony Pictures Television and TeleVentures were co-distributing the entire MGM, UA, Orion, American International and Goldwyn feature film/television library between 1994 and today under the Sony Pictures Television banner.

Even if they had brought Peter Weller back for this movie, it has far bigger problems than a recast. Though I do think robocop with a jetpack is a cool idea. It just didn't have good special effects to make it look cool. It could have been done. A lot of the flying scenes in the original Richard Donner Superman film still look pretty decent, and that came out around two decades before RoboCop 3.

Fred Dekker voiced his opinion about the finished product. While he maintained that he had a great time making it and was still pleased with the result, he admitted that there were inherent problems with the film as well as limitations in its production. He felt that one of those problem was that Murphy/RoboCop's personal journey had already been wrapped up in the first movie, leaving little more for him to do than fight bad guys in the sequels. His biggest regret was that he had toned down the action, cynicism and violence too much at the request of the studio, who wanted to direct the movie at a younger audience (since they had already produced the animated series). Also, the basic premise of RoboCop siding with homeless people against an evil company did not suit the political climate at the time. Lastly, he had intended to put in more Hong Kong-style action through the Otomo character (being a big fan of that genre), but he lacked the budget to hire an Asian stunt team that could pull it off. What haunts him to this day about making the film is the screenplay itself. He felt that if had had another writer who had written the script like Frank Miller or his best friend, Shane Black, he would've had a different perspective and strengthened the roles of the actors in the film. He also personally regrets not setting up the scene where RoboCop's Flight Pack is introduced. If he had to do it over again, he would've showed what its capabilities were for the payoff the end of the film. Dekker also said that he regretted not resurrecting Lewis as a RoboCop herself, which he felt would have validated the movie's existence.

The biggest issue I had with the remake is that it lacked a clear villain. The Omni Corp villain wasn't pulling strings to get Murphy dead and put him in the robot suit, the criminal villain wasn't working with anyone important, and the cop villain wasn't important.

I (unfortunately) have sent his movie before. Those rebels are the most incompetent freedom fighters I've ever seen. First the anti-OCP sign, then the map to their base on one of the men, then while they have sentries when robocop comes in they are gone when the rebels are attacked. I mean, maybe these aren't trained soldiers but give them some intelligence.

If anyone ever gets the chance, find the comic book adaptation of Frank Miller's original treatment of Robocop. It covers a lot of stuff from RoboCop 2 and 3, but meshes together more fluidly. It definitely has a very high violence and Gore level, but that is what you expect from a Frank Miller project. Definitely worth a read if you can find a copy.

7:52 Robocop 3 was going to start filming the same year 2 came out, 1990 [2 released in June, Filming for 3 planned for December] and although was pushed back a couple of months, was finished by May 1991 so was clearly a rush job which probably explains the use of an earlier script. of course the film was on the shelf for two years due to Orion's bankruptcy so casual audiences were less aware of that at the time.

A sequel to a movie you've already reviewed. There's loads of choices; Alone in the Dark 2, Bloodrayne 2, Star Trek V (it's not the sequel straight after TMP but it's still a continuation of the original series), the Dungeons and Dragons TV show that was a continuation from the movie. I'll be anticipating that choice.

***** I'll take your word for it. I personally haven't seen it in theaters and WILL NOT do so because I don't like giving money to potentially bad movies. Doing that basically says to the filmmakers "You're doing nothing wrong, keep doing what you're doing." That's the reason why I didn't go see Batman v. Superman and it's the same with Apocalypse.

The "Curse of the Third film" is more about the laziness of the studio than any sort of over-saturation of the audience. They are usually rushed to cinemas just to cash in using the brand recognition and this is also the problem with almost all reboots as well. If they actually take their time and "try" to make a decent film, instead of rushing it, they have a decent chance of being good film.

Yeah, RebootCop was just so bland, it isn't really worth being torn down. They lingered too long on technical aspects and too little on the message they were attempting to convey; because they have to ham-handedly tell the audience what their message is. His 'Death-scene' was watered down, though I appreciated the corporate attempt to utilize an outwardly altruistic approach to pursue an agenda, I also felt it undermined the original film's message of corporate indifference to the human condition which saw people as consumers or competitors and treated both with equal callousness.

I thought Johnson's completely ineffective threat to the police officers as they're walking out was hilarious (even McDagget was probably thinking "Why did we bring HIM along?"), especially since OCP cancelled their pensions in the last movie...

I would have guessed that since Murphy is still dependent on OCP for parts/Medical care. he has a product serial number OCP COP-001 that after he purged the phone book of directives they likely reloaded at some time during his repairs after stopping the prototype COP-002 they reloaded the original 4 directives.ironically the old man even knew DR4 was troubleshooting the first film,
