Campfire Cooking: Cinnamon & Sugar Bannock ~Lets cook some bannock seasoned with cinnamon and sugar on a stick over an open fire.
Recipe:
1 cup of flour
1 tsp of baking powder
1/4 cup of dry milk
1/4 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of olive oil or coconut oil
cinnamon and sugar to taste.
Mix all ingredients dry and then add the oil and enough water to make a thick dough.
Cinnamon & Sugar Bannock is a simple recipe and can be modified to suit your taste.
Mike at Bushcraftbartons also has an excellent video demonstrating this technique of cooking bannock like the Cree. Here is a link:

Good info / exact demo. ! Thank You. Hmmm, as a Navy 12 yr, SERE Inst. / plus 3 yr jungle JEST P.I. Inst . I first learned about " ASH CAKES " from L. Olsen / R. Jaminson / J. Riggs at their first Rabbit Stick Gathering in Utah, 1978. At that time, I was also learning to make " ACORN FLOUR " from my wife's Native American family in Calif. Later " BANNICK " with my Friend / Inst. from England. Then at the Swedish Worldwide Inst . Conference 1995 my Inst. Buddy from Finland gave us a demo. on making " BARK BREAD " from WW-II . Amazing ! Then my Inst. Pal in Australia told me about "DAMPER " bread. ( I hope I have the correct titles . ) The ash cakes seemed simple - So., my students in my tipi camp used " corn meal / flour mix " , at times adding dried berries , , etc. We seldom used the ash- coal bed for cooking , rather a hot, flat stone surface worked best for us. All in all - love the different methods and choice. " Bravo Zulu " on your video. Always great learning more . Sincerely, Mtn Mel & Aussie Blue, Ret. USN SERE / Para- Rigger 59- 82, in W. Colorado. Stop by and join us - sit in the woodsmoke , 7,000 ft.

Matt, make up your sugar and cinnamon mix beforehand. Brush the bannock with a little melted butter. Sprinkle on the sugar/cinnamon mix... If there's dried fruit in the bannock soak the fruit in a little brandy overnight. I will send you a recipe for pre-mixed camp cake. You keep it in an airtight container in your freezer and just measure it out into a jar before you leave.

If you use a slightly bigger stick and pre-heat stick in fire... Helps cook the inside of the bread.

I added my name and experience, as I have been in the survival skills since 1948 , learning first from my WW-I.Grandad. Presently looking at age 80, still learning - sharing - teaching . Ha, no time for foolish tv football nor goofy golf --- rather be trying to fly my powered para- glider , hunting frogs, gathering mushrooms, on Colo. River in canoe with my Blue pup. Like to to hear from you all. Be Safe / Prepared. Mtn Mel.

+common weakness It is a very similar knife to the Jeff White Bush Knife but it was made by a man in NC named Larry Dula. He makes excellent frontier style knives and has great steel. I do own a JW Bush Knife HD that I like as well. It is an excellent knife for the money. Thanks for watching!
