Thanks for the excellent instructional video. This is the 3rd install I've done of this Dynatek electronic ignition on various Honda SOHCs but this time I wired it to the back brake wire as you suggested rather than use the dodgy clip that comes with the Dynatek. It was much simpler and cleaner using your method.

the dyna ignition comes straight from the factory at 180*. For certain Suzuki gs models the mechanical point mechanism only has timing marks on one side, so once you only adjust timing for the 1-4 and the 2-3 is done as well. Super awesome upgrade and well paired with the dyna coils

Thanks for the great video, I own a 1970 CB 500k0, that will eventually have the original engine with a 600cc kit (new sleaves and pistons in a kit). I have the same electronic ignition system you installed, which is whst attracted me to this video, however, I would like to know more about the exhaust system, as I will need to get one for the bike and that sounded awesome. My bike, when it is eventually finished will be a cafe racer, with lots of different parts from different bikes on it. It won't be a daily ride, I'm not looking for that anymore (at 62 I've had too many friends die or get seriously injured for that) but I do want to do the occasional club ride etc.

Do you use the Dyna Coils over some more generic coils like the ones from Mikes XS? There’s a huge price difference, but the e-ignition makers tend to push you that direction and blame any ignition faults on budget coils.

QUESTION: Did you cut off that plastic connector that turns the two red wires into one red wire? Curious how you rigged those up since there's two wires (assuming you're not using the extension). Did you crimp both red wires into one male bullet connector or did they each get their own? I have my Dyna hooked up and working great, but I used the crappy blue splicer it came with (spliced into the black and white wire near the coils) and I'm thinking about rewiring it with proper connectors now that I've gotten better at doing wiring. I have a couple different ideas that would work. Your way seems simple, I'm just a little confused about not using the extension that turns the red wires into one wire. I wish we could've seen the way you had those wires set up before you plugged them in. I have a four way connector that I think could work if I give each red wire it's own bullet terminal.

What kind of ignition coils do you like to run on your bikes?
@supersportimpalass
@supersportimpalass 4 жыл бұрын
5 ohm Dyna coils are best since you can easily replace the wires if they go bad. Skip the 3 ohm as most people find they pull to much juice from the stock electrical system and can cause charging issues especially on the 550's and smaller sohc Hondas. It's worse yet with the 3 ohms and the Dyna S because they pull juice for longer crank rotation exaggerating the the current draw and charging issues. Stock coils work fine for most bikes even with slight mods and the added Dyna S if you dont want to mess with setting points. Hope this helps answer your question.

Ok, i need some help. My 1975 CB550F has a Dyna S ignition on it already. Been having all sorts of trouble since i had it. I was checking and testing my timing and i found that on the left coil if i use a test light, when ignition is set to on, the light is always on no matter where i advance the engine to be it 1/4 or 2/3. If i check the right coil it comes on as it should when i turn the timing rotar clock wise. The wiring seems correct but i could be mistaken. Should i just pay and bring this bike uo to Austin and have your shop help me? I have done so much and just getting fed up at this point. Lol 😆

@daveco1270

Did you ever figure this out? Maybe you had the wires to your coils flipped so the blue wire went to the coil that controls 1 and 4 and yellow to 2 and 3. Edit: just realized the blue wire is for 1 and 4. So that's why you were getting 1 and 4 when you were hooked up to that wire.
