Clean Keto on a Budget - ALDI Grocery Haul - Thomas DeLauer
All right, it's Aldi time. Now I'm in California, so Aldis aren't crazy popular here but this has been a popular, popular request, people that are watching my videos. We're going to do a little keto grocery haul here at Aldi.
Now Aldi does have some clean options so it will be interesting. Hopefully we can do a nice clean keto on a budget. All about trying to save a couple bucks, if we can get out of here for $150.00 for a week, that would be awesome. That's going to be the goal, let's see what happens. Let's head on in, hopefully we don't get kicked out like we have a bad habit of having happen to us.
So we've got aged Parmesan cheese, we've got cheese cultures, salt and jalapeno. That's actually pretty darn clean Parmesan crisp.
A little bit pricey, $2.89, but you still need some snacks now and then, so let's go ahead and grab those just so we've got something.
Peanuts, although technically fit into a keto profile, they're technically a legume, not a nut, so not the biggest fan of having them, so a little bit higher carb content than I usually like.
Six grams of carbs, two grams of fiber, not going to hurt you. If you're on a serious budget, then yeah, that will work well, but I'm going to stay away from those.
Fresh veggies are always nice. When you're on a budget, frozen really works well simply because frozen honestly, it's flash frozen, so you're preserving a lot of the nutrients, so you're pretty solid there.
Kombucha, kombucha can be tricky. See we still have a lot of carbs in kombucha. Six grams of carbs but servings per container two.
Twelve grams of carbs, you're a third of the way through your carb content for the day so just be careful there. Now we're talking. This is the kind of stuff that I dig. All right, we've got good quality kimchi.
Goat cheese is generally an A2 casein protein which means it doesn't have what's called BCM7 in it. I'm not going to go into exquisite detail, but basically it doesn't have the caseinates that cause an opioid reflux within your body, so you don't get that addiction that you get to normal cheese, but also, just much easier on the system, so goat cheese whenever you possibly can.
Wild caught salmon is always best, but you don't usually find wild caught in a smoked form just because it usually is farmed in some ways.
This was raised in Norway which has different standards than the U.S. When the U.S. has farm salmon, it's a big issue. Norway has pretty good standards. I happen to know that Norway is actually really solid with that.
Atlantic salmon, salt, sodium lactate and beechwood smoked. Sodium lactate isn't a huge deal. That still is for all intents and purposes pretty naturally derived. This stuff is really good. Really good quality fat.
Obviously get your nice omega-3 profile. Even though it's technically raised in Norway and it's technically probably farmed, it's still going to have a nice omega-3 omega-6 ratio so I'll go ahead and get that because that is a really good price.
We do have some bison. That is not that cheap, but it's a good price for bison. We're talking $7.99 a pound is good. That's like right in the world of Costco prices.
Bison is FDA regulated, so it cannot be eating grain. It has to be fed on pasture. Pasture-raised is the way we want to go, but also pasture-finished, and bison is going to have that.
Don't hate on me for spending $15.00 or $16.00 on getting a couple things of bison right now because this is really, a little bit is going to go a long way.
Veggies are actually great to get frozen. I mentioned it earlier, but they're flash frozen. Every time you harvest a vegetable and it goes onto the truck it's oxidizing. It's oxidizing and it's denaturing while it's on the truck.
Baking cocoa. Just 100% cocoa. Again, not organic in this case, but it's $1.95. I'll mix this with almond milk, add a little bit of stevia, and make a delicious little treat that I could sip on. Perfect thing to have before bed, just hanging out after having some dinner, watching a little bit of TV with the family.
It's a great little thing to have, so ... Cocoa is awesome. Don't think that it all has to have sugar in it. Just get it from the baking aisle, and if they were to have actual cocoa chocolate, chocolate bars, like baking chocolate, I would have grabbed some of that too. Just going to grab some heavy cream and we'll be out of here.
As always, please keep it locked in here on my channel and if you want more of these videos, I need you to comment down below and say what kind of grocery store you want me to go to. I don't have Kroger's on the West Coast so maybe I'll fly somewhere to do a Kroger's.

Thank you for all the Info and Videos. You are a great Motivator👍 and Teacher. I know you whole heartedly look to help the people that follow you… something you need to look at that you mentioned in your video. Both for Your Family and Your Followers. Please check out “Worlds most Toxic Salmon” 🇳🇴 Norway and nearby countries out law the sale of certain fish from the Baltic Sea because they are so Toxic (waste from 2 World Wars and The Industrial Revolution dumping into a stagnant sea) But the Law only bands the sale to Humans for Human Consumption. So those Very Toxic fish are use to make feed and are then feed to their salmon…. That makes it a Man Made /assisted Biological Multiplier. Very bad. To make it worse they Add a Fat Stabilizer made by Monsanto to the feed that makes the situation even worse.

Thomas... Please spread the message that buying wild caught fish contributes heavily to overfishing, plastic fishing waste, death of dolphins, whales, sharks and other sea life through bycatch, and other destructive effects on the ocean ecosystems. There is an argument to be made that farm raised fish is better; not healthier so maybe the answer is consume less! Those of us who are trying to be responsible about our bodies need to be respectful of the animals we consume and ultimately respectful of the ecosystems that sustain our species.

The real reason Aldi’s does the quarter thing is to minimize cart damage to cars on the parking lot and to cut down on cart retrieval time which helps keep prices low. It’s a very good thing.

In Germany (where Aldi is from) every company has had this mechanism for ages to a point where people stopped thinking about it. (Common belief is those mechanisms prevent others from stealing the carts.) Children grow up, learning to always carry a coin (50 cent and 1 euro usually fit) and bring the cart back after shopping. Recently, some companies started testing carts that do not require a coin anymore (so people could actually leave them in the parking lot), but everyone still brings their cart back naturally.
@shadowfox009x
@shadowfox009x 4 жыл бұрын
In Germany we actually have tokens for the carts in just about every jacket pocket. I use old French and Irish coins (from the pre-Euro days). All kind of stores offer the tokens as a free gift on occasion. The stealing of the carts used to be a huge thing especially in the bigger cities. Which was an annoyance for the store and for the city that had to deal with the abandoned carts.

I just found your channel after watching Dr. Burg. I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at 43. I suffered a spinal cord injury 2 years ago and have been pretty inactive since. I’ve always been a fat guy, but I was on the way to getting into shape before my accident. I couldn’t walk for almost a year. I’m still recovering but I’m finally able to do low impact exercises. I just joined the YMCA so I could start using the pool for exercising. The doctor has me on all kinds of medications that I don’t want to be on for the rest of my life. So this is the start of my plan to get off them. Keto, IF and exercise. I know I can do this. Wish me luck. I’m so glad I found your channel!!

Just so you're aware: Trader Joe's is actually owned by Aldi! Aldi's US headquarters are in Batavia, IL. Just a five minute drive from Fermi Lab (an high security Particle Accelerator - I grew up near there). They're a German owned company that when they first came to the US they were a low quality, high "stock up" type store. They've have made HUGE leaps in quality, healthy choices and they do not allow any High Fructose Corn Syrup in any of their branded products. They're entire "Never Any" line of meats and produce is AMAZING! What really turned the tables for them was bringing in Trader Joe's. That allowed Aldi foods to have more "clout" to be able to bring more healthy choices to their original Aldi stores as well. Aldi really can make a HUGE difference for budget conscious and healthy choices minded families. Bravo for bringing us that Clean Keto Haul from Aldi!

@Caanze 4 жыл бұрын
Even in Germany they made that huge leap in quality. Aldi used to be the super budget market where you basically "get the quality you pay for" but nowadays their fresh and frozen fruit, veggies, meat are really good. You obviously still have to check, since there is always cheaper junk around but the options got a lot better now.

Actually, there are two different Aldi's, Aldi North and Aldi South. They also have a slightly different logo. Trader Joe's is Aldi North in the United States while Aldi South is Aldi. That I just like Aldi's a lot better and another thing that makes Aldis lot easier to shop at is they move stuff as much as Walmart does if you're half-blind that's not good because I I like to shop where I know where everything is when I go into Walmart one month Juice might be in when I'll in the next month it will be moved to another aisle I hate that it takes me 2 hours to shop because of that I can go in down all these find what I need within 30 minutes and be out

LIDLs in uk is fairly decent too. I often find the fresh stuff goes off quicker than other supermarket food, and it often doesnt have the big brands you want, but there are ALWAYS decent substitutes. The options in your store i doubt i'd find in the uk, such as buffalo mince. What i DO really like about LIDLs is that they did the no bag policy, but where u can buy bags at the checkout ages before the ban on plastic bags in uk and they pay their staff above minimum wage. i believe they are the highest paid staff of all uk supermarkets. I go to LIDLs for a rare big shop and it helps that the layout of the nawty foods are not as enticing as other supermarkets

Yes, it was comical to see him not know what to think of the quarter dealio. LOL. He could've grabbed boxes to pack his stuff in, Aldi in MO lets you do that. But I am no novice, I come in with my TJ's big blue cooler bag and I get all that i need stuffed in it. :) Single shopper though, so it's easy-peasy :)

@@MsMelissa216 it's not, I get away with about 100-300$ a month based on how much grass-fed meat i eat and how much random keto friendly snacks i want......and sugar free soda lol (im trying to re-correct that..) Ive been doing keto off and on for like 2 years. I am down 40 pounds (i didn't start at a colossal size) Mostly just kinda experimenting with different things to find a balance and figure out what i can get away with and what I can't :P ever time i eat Pasta or bread i immediately explode and it derails my diet, cravings come back, and worst of all i balloon in water weight.

This is my first time watching, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you did a “discount store “ shopping. People always think if they can’t get the most expensive,high end, they are missing out and can’t be successful. Thanks for the education and making clean eating accessible for any income!

love these!!! so good!! Just discovered weight strength training because with my newly acquired medicare I can work out at a gym for free! I love it!! I feel great...hired a trainer with some savings....she looks 50 but is 72!! She showed me things to do and most important what not to do. I have cut down my medications by half and am working on the food part. Being in recovery from a life time of disordered eating it is a challenge. However I am beginning to understand the power behind food and love your way of explaining what to shop for. Thank you. My son was the one who suggested you. I follow Mark Hyman and a woman who you were talking with. She wrote Forever Strong. Thank you for what you do.

I thought those aspects made it realistic and fun. I don't always appreciate things that are overly rehearsed, for people with a lackluster personality. I did not expect to watch this entire video due to its length, but he kept me interested there were lots of educational tidbits, more than just a plain old "what I eat" type video
