I learned that if you put a paper towel in the bag of spinach, lettuce, cilantro, kale, collards, etc and then squeeze the air out and roll it and seal it well, it will last a whole lot longer than if you don't. Sometimes I even change the paper towel after a couple of days. It absorbs the moisture in the bag and the moisture is what makes it start to go bad.

Mind you, I'm in Tucson, but I'm comparing prices in the video with my local Walmart. Some of them are as much as 50 cents more, Some were actually cheaper, but over all I think it balanced out to be about the same. His prices were for California though. I can only imagine how much they've skyrocketed there. I think for some people this would still be pretty cheap.

After I watched this video, I realized that it was a year old. But no matter. I shopped along with you on the Walmart website and got everything that you did with the exception of I had to get Kerry Gold butter. My total was $125.20. Not bad at all for a month. I might spend much more than that in a week for one person. I’m in Florida and this is a year later after the 2022 inflation. Still not bad at all and you’re eating much better. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It was very eye-opening and informative. Keep up the good work!

I’m watching this for the second time, a year apart. Now that food is outrageously priced, I’m having to switch more and more to these money saving ideas. I’ve always spent a lot on food (clean organic, grass fed etc). I just can’t afford to eat how I want anymore. I think I’m going to try some of Thomas’ food selections and just learn to live with it for now. Sadly, every time I go shopping things are worse than the last, even at Walmart. I hope the increases level off soon. My kids are starting to understand that we don’t waste any food and I think they are learning an important lesson.

@@stephanienewton6618 im sorry but, the inflation is only going to get worse after the midterm elections. once the USA uses up its strategic oil reserves, the price of gas will dramatically increase and I'm betting inflation will increase to two digits as well. expect this number to remain high for a while. it will become the new normal. take care of things while you can and stock up. it will not be pretty when real scarcity hits

Side note: I am incorporating exercise into my lifestyle because I think it’s an important component to maintaining good health. I can’t believe he continues to put this content out for free. Some good info, but some bad. Never buy anything with " reduced fat, sugar, etc" in the label. Its not real food anymore. Nuts! Get out of the snack aisle and go over to the baking aisle. It's always cheaper always. And they usually don't have all of the added nasty oils and chemicals on them. You can toast them in a pan and add whatever spice or flavoring you want to it. It's much healthier and always cheaper. Take the money you saved and buy some dark chocolate. Just a few nuts with some melted chocolate on them is a great treat. You just have to be mindful of portion control.

I guess I’ll go put her chicken back!” very loudly, and she turned around like 😳 and hurried off. I do hope it embarrassed her. In all seriousness, that’s dangerous. Contamination is no joke. As that chicken began to melt lol that liquid would likely escape the plastic produce bag and end up contaminating everything around it.

Don't let that sway you. Since they were bought by Amazon, if you shop smartly, you can find amazing deals. Like 3-4 times a year they have 25% off all vitamins and supplements. They have an amazing Whole Foods Super Omega fish oil in Triglyceride-form. Not on sale it's an insane deal. 25% off nothing comes close. Their meats are also very fairly priced for the quality. If you get the app, you get sales plus another 10% off if you are prime member. I feel like I am a shill for Whole Foods but I get some of my best deals there! Let me know if you want any more.

Thomas you probably don’t realize just how much difference your small “off the cuff” comments can make in someone’s life. I think it was when you were shopping frozen veggies you shared the tip of preserving a bag of salad mix or spinach to make it last. That one tip is going to save me so much money. I’m an older woman and it has never even occurred to me to do that. That one tip “for me” was the most important take away of the entire video although I will probably reflect back on the rest the next time I’m in Walmart. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

I rinse the whole bag of spinach in a salad spinner, spinning until as dry as I can get it. Then pick through the spinach. Any bad leaves, obviously, throw out. Separate out any okay but bruised or torn leaves and set aside and put the rest - the good leaves - into a big resealable bag with a paper towel and squeeze the air out without damaging the spinach. Those bruised leaves should go into a bag or plastic container and be used first. Sorting through and properly storing the greens will keep them good for about 3 weeks at least and will help you use the whole big bag!

As a now personal trainer, I will always guide my clients in the right direction, even when it comes to food, because how are you supposed to help people if they aren’t already trained in the label-reading process? I was always told this when learning about and coming into the health and fitness industries, and I CANNOT STAND it, because guess what it does? It makes those people still ask the extra question of “what brands are better than others” or something along those lines. Just take the time to guide people, and everything else will be much, much easier. Also, a funny thing happens when you show your clients that you’re willing to go the extra mile, you end up with more clients 🤯. Many trainers just don’t grasp this concept

Meal prep, and cook things and freeze in individual servings so you have variety and you can thaw things quickly. Make soups with less liquid so they take less space in the freezer, and add liquid when you reheat. I freeze servings of soup and chili in quart-size ziplock zipper freezer bags. Once frozen, I can lay them flat or stand them up like books. Get a small tub that fits in your freezer. Label the bags first, then fill them and clean up any drips. Lay them flat in the tub with paper towels in between to prevent sticking together. After they’re frozen, take them out and put them wherever they fit best. Set them in a container in the refrigerator to thaw, in case they leak. I cook meats and chicken, and freeze individual servings in ziplock bags. Roast vegetables, sauté kale with garlic, and freeze in containers. I put about three servings in a small container. By doing this, you can have excellent nutrition and variety. I’m surprised and disappointed foster mothers did not teach you about shopping and cooking. But regular parents don’t seem to do so these days, either.

I bought whole chicken breasts that were organic, split them and stuffed with dried cherry tomatoes, feta and goat cheese, cooked spinach in avocado oil, wrapped them in bacon , kept one out to cook and froze the rest. Salmon cakes are da bomb with a poached egg and sauteed spinach on top. The chicken breasts were huge so it made enough for 2 meals. Sounds good! People get all wrapped up in trying to make the same foods they ate before but in a keto version. You’re definitely on the right track in choosing healthy, low carb basic foods and cooking them with a few touches of slightly higher carb, fresh foods for the flavor. So much more satisfying than lasagna made with sliced of chicken instead of noodles. 💕

I started my journey with a low-carb diet before going full-blown keto and the transition was much easier. I have been fully keto now for about 12 days and have lost an incredible 11 lbs. It's a little scary because I feel like I'm eating much too much fat. It's like a guilty pleasure sauteing in Irish butter, bacon grease, coconut oil, avocado oil, and ghee. But incredible, I have not yet had a craving for my favorite food in the entire world "potatoes." I was only going to dedicate myself to this lifestyle for about 30 days, just to see if I could do it, but now I plan on making it at least till June 2021. Thank you for the context and for supporting the keto fans.

@@YeshuaKingMessiah That's excellent, I'm very happy to hear that your journey is going well however you decide to modify. It is all about results and how you feel. I just came back from vacation yesterday where I decided to drink and eat what I wanted knowing I would get kicked out of ketosis. I expected to gain a fair amount of weight and feel awful for a few days so no big deal. To my surprise, I only gained about 5lbs and oddly enough was almost immediately upon returning home was back in ketosis again. I am sure my weight will return to where it was before my vacation, and I will continue my keto journey with a fair amount of success.

@@nobuhlempofu9497 Good for you! I am still on my Keto journey. So far I have lost almost 30 lbs, but during my journey, I have had birthdays, celebrations, and holidays where I did not sacrifice and instead joined in. During those times, I never gained more than 2 or 3 lbs, but the odd thing is that once you dedicate yourself to keto, your internal voice takes over and doesn't allow you to go too far in the wrong direction. Just remember - this is not a success-only journey. We are all human beings and therefore subject to failures. But it is not about our failures, it is about how we recover to move forward and this is doable - so don't give up! Keep being the best you that you can be each day and you WILL succeed. I would have skipped cottage cheese and just bought a half gallon of some A2 milk, made some yogurt from half of it with an added splash of that heavy cream you just picked up, and then use the other half to make a little fresh cheese and then ricotta. All you need is salt and vinegar or lemon juice and a little bit of time. But so many of us have nothing but time on our hands right now. And it's a great time to learn a basic skill like that, one that makes your food healthier and gives you more control of what you put into your body.

That fresh cheese or farmer's cheese as it's often called, is a healthy delicious replacement for cottage cheese and you can culture the milk a little bit overnight with some of that sour cream before you make it to get rid of the rest of those sugars. When you're done making this cheese just give it a little salt and whatever herb you like, and a splash of that heavy cream. There you have the best cottage cheese you've ever had in your life and by far the healthiest.

My inner grammar nazi twitched a little at the beginning. "Less *than* $100/month" You've been a guiding light for my keto journey. Keep up the great content! 🤘

I think it was very realistic. If he had literally only had the $100, he would have ditched the nuts and some cream and maybe the nut butter. And he might have rethought the beef and switched it out for the other which was a bit less but would add up with that many pkgs. And switch the good eggs for another pkg of the okay ones. But really? It’s an almost impossible task to only spend $100 per month. Oh! And ditch those waffles.

Then later on the video he's like, "You know what I'm actually going to put this heavy cream back & get this." 😂 I love watching the natural process of that we all go through at the grocery store while trying to shop on a budget lol. You should use a prebiotic/probiotic or apple cider vinegar gummy if you’re concerned with bloating. Staying away from spicy food, fried food and roasting your veggies also helps with bloating. Cauliflower also helps heal the stomach lining if you ever experience stomach pain that also leads to bloating.

@@mikeydoesit The average person in America is a fat ass. This would probably last a single person a month he has plenty of frozen vegetables and meat. In keto you get most of you calories from fat which are very calorie dense so it doesn't look like much. If you ate all this in 1 to 2 weeks considering all the dense fat calories you would be way over eating past your maintenance calories.

Thomas, this is my first time commenting and I just have to say that this vlog was excellent! I learned so much and will be implementing the things that you showed us in my next shopping trip. Thank you. With that being said, you look like you love a challenge. I do not know if you have done this already but would you please consider doing a keto food haul for those of us that have blood sugar issues (e.g. Type 1/Type 2 Diabetes) if you do another trip to Walmart; a keto haul shopping at a Hispanic market, Asian Market (I have found some great prices on meat and vegetables at these stores as well) and an emergency/lockdown haul. I learned so much from this video. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. Again, thank you so much.

I really appreciated d the grocery tour! I am not a big eater but I would like to see how you portion your haul into meals. Having a difficult time imagining how a young male will get enough of a serving from each meal to stay satisfied. I also did appreciate that your choices dispelled my belief about Keto being super high in fats! I’m Canadian so prices are defo different here especially in 2022 ! Groceries prices are way over the top!

I just bought the isopure protein powder that you showed in your video. Three weeks ago I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and still on liquid and soft foods. Starting eating Keto 20 months ago lost 65 lbs so far. Lowered my A1C from 6.3 to 5.2 I love that protein powder I use it for berry smoothies but it also makes a great coating for making air fried foods or fried foods.
