I don't think Robby's arc is going "bad to good". He went from being lost and seemingly alone (disasterous parents, worst selection of abusive friends possible), to being cared for and well treated by someone for the first time in his life. But I don't think he was "bad" to begin with. He had issues, he was mostly alone, he was doing what the only ones around him expected him to do - doesn't mean he liked it. The first chance he was really given to take the right step, he took it, and at a big risk to himself. Proof that he wasn't bad at all to begin with. Said that, I agree, his arc is nowhere as well fleshed out as Miguel's.

I support Johnny & Miguel because they feel the most human and relatable. Miguel didn't learn Cobra Kai karate to get back at anyone: he just wanted to defend himself and his friends from merciless bullies. Johnny didn't try to steer Miguel wrong: he taught Miguel the only way he knew how (the same way he was taught). Even with this ending, I am more invested in Johnny and Miguel BECAUSE of their flaws. Because it is totally understandable that people who have been victimized would want to confront a brutal world with strength, and strength is hard to keep in check. I just hope that the writers don't turn Miguel into a stock villain -- because he is not a villain, just a kid who is doing everything he was taught to do by a man he respects.

The show is called Cobra Kai. Johnny is the protagonist and Miguel is the main character in terms of new characters. Both in Cobra Kai. Plus the show isn't black and white. Every main character has flaws. Miguel becoming more aggressive doesn't mean he'll turn out to be the villain. Johnny will teach him more in Season 2, and Miguel will see the error of his ways and learn from it. Maybe not right away, but midway through Season 2 I'm betting.
@maxmagnus37936 жыл бұрын
Totally agree Miguel, Johny and Cobra Kai are the real heroes. Life has treated them badly and they fight back - for better or worse. They have a long way to go and it will be great following them on this journey. Robby is a Canon Sue in this show, he lacks motivation and does not earn his assumed hero status and accompanying Karate mastery. His past life of crime never has any serious consequences for him, and he is able to just master everything with no clear motivation past trying to annoy his father.
@natebroadus84746 жыл бұрын

I really like the way this is playing out. Miguel is representing Daniel when he was first getting bullied by Johnny in the first film. And Robby is representing Johnny as the trouble maker. But when both senseis is get involved, the roles switch. Miguel becomes victorious in the tournament as a douche and alone at the end of the tournament but Robby loses but with honor and finds a better path and will probably end up hooking up with Sam. Solidifying Mr Miyagi's message about "no such thing as bad student only bad teacher". But it does seem that Johnny had lost control of Miguel at the end.

This ending was PERFECT. I love how it was a bittersweet victory for both Johnny and Miguel. Cobra Kai wins, but you could tell what Johnny really wants is reconciliation with his son. Miguel wants reconciliation with Sam. Neither one of them gets what they really want. I predict that Johnny is going to realize that his style of teaching, despite being effective in a fight, is too dangerous because his students are beginning to run wild with aggression. Forgive the cliche, but he essentially teaches them the dark side of the Force. I hope the series ends with Johnny and Daniel making peace, though. I think the final episode was brilliant simply because you can support both Miguel and Robby at the same time. During the season our hearts were with Miguel, he is the next karate kid, definitely. When Miguel fought with that fake-ish "I don't like violence" Stone, you support him. This also goes for cobra kids. You support Aisha, but when she could not handle losing, you sense that something is wrong with her. Hawk-Eli is great in the first fight but when he hit Robby you sense that this is not right. When Daniel came back with all that cheers, you still see that they kept the philosophy of original movie, this is still a story about finding your balance. Both Johnny and Robby began to see it at the end, and I think they will make peace, probably fix things between them in the next season. For the final fight, I supported Robby, but I also like that he lost especially after making that two legged kick which must take all his energy. But even though he knew the risk of losing he kept the fight. As for Miguel, he is becoming aggressive and it was obvious that our beloved sensei is not very content with him. But I am quite sure, they will not make him completely a bad boy.

This was a good narrative decision to follow Johnny instead of Daniel again. You could see over time, he has started to realize his fighting style is effective, but it doesn’t put you in the right mind set. Johnnys age has him settle down and he is able to see the path that Miguel is walking is the same as his. A path that isn’t as honorable as he once thought. Through out the series, it really feels like we should be following Daniel, but choosing to develop Johnny is much more interesting then making Daniel the master that trains a kid same as he was.

Emotional moment. Miguel has always felt like a loser his entire life. Him and everyone in Cobra Kai. They all felt like the world was against them and fought as if it was that way-and owed it all to Johnny. Yet, the bittersweet part was the monster that came of Miguel, Aisha and Hawk, to Johnny's dismay. It was like looking in a mirror. He could not stand seeing his own son caught up on the wrong end of his lessons of raw brutality to his students.
@juliodias46752 жыл бұрын
The writting in first season was absolutely phenomenal. Miguel's little "anakin skywalker" moments made you doubt if he would win, no matter how much he had been the protagonist of the season until that moment. On the other hand season 4 keeps throwing it in your face from the start that sam will lose the final fight. It's very clear from the start that the show is psychologically preparing you for this.
@juliodias46752 жыл бұрын
@Silverboy80 yes! But it is exactly my point. clearly the idea of this season was to make cobra kai win, especially with sam's defeat. But the writers must have thought that sam's defeat would be very difficult for the general public and that's why they were spreading throughout the episodes several elements to soften this shocking end, such as humanizing Tori more and making sam often be an asshole to her without need. Finally, in the final fight, they even added that element of "look, she's going to lose but only because cobra kai is playing dirty". So while I was watching the season I realized what was comming in the end because of these elements.

bryan dash Maybe. But he later recognizes some of his bad mistakes. Let's not forget that in The Karate Kid one and three, he nearly gets killed by the guys from Cobra Kai. He has experienced trauma and desperately wants to prevent the kind of violence he has received in his youth. He is basically the kind of character that wants something good to happen but is too aggressive about it, and later realizes that he is going way overboard with his actions. When it comes to characters in a complex story setting, it is kind of difficult for them to emphasize with one another and instantly understand what the other truly feels. It's not easy for both Johnny and Daniel to forget their past feud. Personally, I see that Johnny is now slowly becoming the good kid whereas Daniel is slowly trying to wake up from his past just like how Johnny did in the first few episodes. Their roles seem to mirror each other.
