My condolences to Mary, Heather, and the rest of his family. I’m just finding out about this today, June 27. And I see that he died on the 22nd. How could I not have known about this sooner. This is heartbreaking. And I am in shock! And he’s one of these people who, when they die, you are in disbelief, thinking it can’t be true! He was one of my favorites. And he still is. And he is one of the biggest influences on my own vegan diet. And among all the vegan doctors, including Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, and Neal Barnard, John McDougall is by far my favorite! And I had always wished that some day, some way, I would get to talk to him or even interview him. He’s one of those people that you almost feel you know in person, just from watching his videos. A friend! And I wish that I could’ve met him. Shook his hand, and had a talk with him to clarify some things that people always give me flack about, regarding my own, McDougall influence diet. RIP, Dr. McDougall! He leaves a space that cannot be filled! But I hope it will be filled, and that his philosophy, and mission of a starch based diet will continue to be presented to the world. He was one of the voices of truth. And, in addition to his diet, I appreciated his much-needed criticisms of the medical industry, in general. Keep his body of work available! Even in his passing, the knowledge that he presented must continue to inform us. 💔

Thank you Dr McDougall for giving us the knowledge needed for making a change of lifestyle. I have gone plant based since 2018 and reduced my body weight by 33 kg (roughly 70 pounds) and quit five medications. All I still need is a small dose of insulin in the morning. I reduced animal products back in 2012 in favor of more fruit and vegetables.

@@happycook6737 dear happy, I have tried every thing, even tried the carnivoure, because I wanted to see if I could get it to 4.6 but no luck. I am not complaining, because I have been able to have my A1C at 6.2. Since I never took medication in the over 20 something years I am quite healthy. When I tried the arnivoure which every one is raving about, 5 ozs it sent my sugar to over 11, then in the morning my sugar was 9.4. Never saw such numbers in all my mornings. Usually 5,8 or 6 in the A. M At one point I was upset because I coul not eat my desserts, when I ask my dr for metformin, she told me I did not need it, so I gave up. I am only trying to say that the Dr's starchovour diet might be good for obese people, but every diabetic I have met says it does not work for them. I guess I will have to follow my routine, meds are like the covid vaccine to me.

Definitely, if you want to stop drinking caffeine, drink more water first thing in the morning before you get out of bed and then make sure you’re eating enough carbohydrates and don’t fear sugar. If you’re needing coffee, it means you’re looking for a stimulant to give you energy why not get that energy from water, extra sugar and go to bed early, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

Migraines is something I know too much about!!!! My mom, also. I am on a mostly raw, WFPB, SOS-free (actually I do use a tiny bit of organic miso, so I do use this instead of salt). I also wear a 20 pound weighted vest to walk a mile every 2 or 3 days, and I jog a mile most days. Two times a week I do a 15 minute KZfaq channel, "Kettlebell HIITT Workout - Fitness Blender HIIT Kettlebell Training" routine. The entire routine is 20 minutes, but I just do the kettlebell portion usually. I also eat a tiny bit of fresh garlic (less than 1/8 teaspoon) if I feel a migraine coming on. If that doesn't help I'll try a bigger dose. Ginger helps also, as does spinach (maybe the magnesium?). I haven't tried barbberies but I've heard it may help. If the garlic is too unpalatable try adding a tablespoon of crushed tomatoes.

Dr McDougall and Dr Greger probably has more info on all of this. But also try the garlic (1/16 teaspoon or less if you can’t tolerate the taste. You can work up to more.

@@annelewis7435 No problem with the salads and other greens. What did give me some initial problems was the legumes, beans have a lot of fibers so bloating was * and still is an issue. Just eat less beans and onions.

I love potatoes, corn, rice all the foods the dr recomend, but in doing so my sugar goes very high. I do not take meds, but i have to be careful in using the starch diet. I really dont understan how his patients follow his food method. They must be vey sick or obese, because i just dont understand and i dont want to take insulin.

@@bernadettechute7998 I tried questioning him, but the daughter never reads my question. She bypasses, and reads another question. I have been a ty 2 for over 20 years, never took meds, but was always sure no to eat too many carbs. I weigh between 104 and 110 so I am not obese, but if I eat potatoes or rice, even 1 potato it goes way up, so I have to disagree wit him that we are starchavoures. I don't know how many medications he takes, since he had a stroke, but that might be difference between the Dr and my sugar.

There is a KZfaq channel, the “Proof with Simon Hill” that has several podcasts that address treating diabetes with plant based diet. Also, “Physician’s committee for responsible Medicine”. Basically though, it’s about making one’s cells more sensitive to insulin (so that the glucose can be used as it should be and not floating around in the blood stream). Fat in cells block the receptors for insulin. Everyone’s blood sugars will go up after eating. Sugar not going back down (being properly used) is the problem. Wish you well with your health issues!

Sugar spikes aren’t an issue if it comes back down normally. The point of his diet is to lose weight without starving while having energy from the high carb high fiber low calorie intake. Eating carbs makes your body better at using them, that’s why going keto and fat adapted isn’t a good solution. You want to stay carb adapted instead, better sleep and muscle glycogen if anything.
