Colorism and the Black Body Image is a documentary exploring the contemporary perceptions of the Black identity and the Black Body image through television representations, films, entertainment, and social media within the Black community. This film documents the personal experiences of Black individuals within the context of the color of their skin and the appearance of their Body Image through exclusive and communal based discussions. The goal of this film is to educate the community of the existence of Colorism and the lack of acceptance and appreciation for the Black Body within the Black Community itself. The Idea is to seek out motivating ways to encourage the Black community in being more loving, accepting, and embracing of the Black culture within its diversities of melanin and Body shapes.

It’s exactly why we need to get rid of the racist stereotypes that white people have attached to dark skin and the white supremacist positive stereotypes attached a light skin.

ZintZ why is it that blacks think whites are so beautiful ..all of you blacks are nuts for thinking that the .most beautiful people in the world are the brown and bronze and black people color i bronze is like the color of Sunset. The most beautiful people in the world are Indian they are beautiful golden copper tan brown and black beautiful complexion. Egypt womans are beautiful also beautiful colors and complexion. All the darker nations. Colorism is similar to racism, rejecting or hating darker black skin people.

The fact she looked at her own skin when she said she doesn’t like brown for some reason is why we need to teach our babies to love themselves and to be proud of being black. She couldn’t even say why, she subconsciously doesn’t like the color brown.

My kids are a quarter black. Even they somehow got the message that light is better, something I never taught them. It was very difficult for me, a biracial woman, to hear my own kid reject dark skin. They’re now both very proud of who they are & have no issue with how dark someone’s skin tone is, thank goodness, because that sh!t was not gonna fly with me.

It's so sad that in our so called sophisticated society that people still get judged on skin tone instead of how smart or nice they are

Seeing the small kids just point at the white and lighter completed kids was heartbreaking. I was hoping one would say, well how can I tell? The one little girl said she didn’t know why she pick that doll. Just heartbreaking.

Hmm, I'd be careful thinking that. I have been living in different countries in Europe for the past decade, and the most colorism I've experienced is from non-black/white people. All types of people are heavy on the colorism, from subtleties to blatant comments and actions.

This is a great video. Thank you for making it! Just a small comment on one part of the video. As someone who has lived in Europe for almost a decade and in Italy for a great part of that period, I think we have to be very careful with thinking that Europe is devoid of colorism , featurism, and racism. The fetish many people have for dark skinned black women and men can be very dangerous and dehumanizing. I have experienced this first hand many times. It may not be as recognizable at first, as traveling to a new country or staying for short periods of time, you cannot expect to grasp aspects of culture and language that you would were you to spend more time. However, I can tell you after having lived in Italy and now the Netherlands, once you speak the language and understand what people are really saying to you, about you, and what people really think, you will find yourself seeing the same patterns as in the United States, just in a differnt context. The reality is, this issue is worldwide. One of my takeaways from immigrating abroad is that this issue will not go away any time soon and it is important to keep these conversations going, as you are doing so beautifully. Thank you again for sharing.

I am dark brown skin and I love being brown. I wear colors to look good with my complexion. .I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world. There is always going to be racism as long as theirs a white world. You can't stop people from hating you because of race it doesn't bother me because I don't like their color either I'm love my blackness just as much as they love their whiteness but I am not a racist. Thank God for that.

@@stellawilliamson1693 so true sis. White people really instilled this self- hatred in us black people because they subconsciously planted seeds of “them” being the standard of beauty.

When we where young we moved to Texas from Santa Rosa California and my sister and I were very dark skinned myself much darker . Children picked on us so bad within our own race everyday. I was always fighting my own race .I was called an Oreo and many other unrighteous names .We were told we talked funny and we were just ugly. As we grew older in our 30s my sister told me we never knew that we were called black growing up in the Valley in Cali no one had ever called us black .We had a class picture taken in California and we just said hey Mom who are those other kids with the lighter hair and skin .Of they were blond and with blue eyes. My sister would tell me we need to try and fit in of course being the fire that I was and still am it would never happened. I just did not get .Being poor with no food and sometimes no home I did not understand having to walk to school and put up with my own race degrading me .I had maybe three melaninated friends and my friends were from other countries. I embrace my power which is my skin and my knowledge of who and where it all started. Such a psychological game these people have played it very saddening for generation to come .Love your self please

I agree with you it seems to have an effect on blacks for being black it's crazy how blacks feel. About being black God put blacks four corners of the earth. When he did this it's for a reason and he knew how you would be treated by others nationally. . That's all over the world . God got his Eyes on what going on be Happy and contented you can't stop hate this is where Satam comes in. If you are not careful he will enter into your heart
