I had been waiting for the S&W model 629 Competitor to show up in any of my local gun shops, which it finally did. I'd never held one and I wasn't going to pay the asking price until I had. I love a heavy barrel ended handgun and the Competitor fit that bill perfectly. However! There was an Anaconda in the case also and I was able to make a real time comparison. I was very disappointed in the S&W double action from the Performance Center and I've changed my mind because of it. Also, the Anaconda is nearly $500 cheaper. I'm calling it a no brainer.

Wilson Combat saw the problem with the rear adjustable sights on the Colt 2020 revolvers. Wilson Combat offers a superb rear adjustable sight replacement and a good front sight to go along with it. Give them a look.

I would get the six inch 2021 Colt Anaconda. It has an action that is really smooth.

I have both the 6" and 8" Anaconda. Appears to be basically an enlarged Python. The small rear side to side play issue on the rear site is common to the new Anaconda, Python and target King Cobra. All new Colt revolver models use the same adjustable rear sight. The only real complaint I have with the Anaconda is the rubber grip. After firing, the lower grip frame back starts to protrude from the bottom of the grip. I installed Altamont wooden grips on both Anacondas for resolution as both the Python and Anaconda use the same grips. Update: I ordered Wilson Combat front and rear sights. Front:Green fiber optic, Rear: Click adjustable ball detent for both elevation and windage and fit into frame is tight with no slop side to side movement. Colt should install these on all new revolvers.

Nice intro video. Good video period. Ironically the windage lock screw in nixed by the slack tolerance. My Williams brand $75 peep sight for my springer pellet rifle has the same lock screw.I hate the process but love the security.

I have the 6 inch Python. The trigger was pretty gritty, but after a couple of boxes of 357 and dry firing, it's the best double action trigger I've ever had. Groups are nice and small. I was looking at a old S&W 629, but after having the Python, it's just not as appealing.

I bought a Smith & Wesson model 500, then bought the Colt anaconda 8 inch barrel, use both as a carry gun.

Got the 6 in. Anaconda. Personally, the 8 inch is not as desirable because of the bulk. I have an S&W XVR 460 with the 8.3/8" barrel. That's enough handgun hunting firearm for me. The 6" barrel, in my opinion is also more esthetically pleasing in both my 2020 Python and my new 2021 Anaconda.

Good review. I've had the same 8 inch model now for almost 2 months. I haven't shot it yet but noticed the same slop/loose tolerance on my rear sight too! Wondering if design flaw or just too small of a rear sight?

I've heard that people who sent Anacondas back to Colt for the loose rear sight ended up with a new gun as a replacement. Maybe Colt is somehow milling out the rear sight pocket a little too large.

@@MysteryWheelgunner interesting. I feel like for the amount of money I spent I'm gonna contact Colt customer service and see what they say. My Smith and Wesson 629 classic doesn't have this problem..

@@MysteryWheelgunner just received gun back today. not bad turnaround time almost a month.. they didn't give me a new gun but adjusted the rear sight, no more slop. don't know exactly what they did but I'm satisfied

I'm not really a wheel gun guy. The only one I have is a Smith & Wesson M60 3", 357 Mag. I do want to get a 44 Mag. though. Considering either the Colt Anaconda 6" bbl or the Smith & Wesson 629 Classic 5" bbl. Do they both have their pro's and con's or is one better than the other. I'll use it as a woods gun to tag along while hunting, cutting firewood, ect. I own other products from both companies, so I don't prefer one brand over the other. Thanks, 6.4.

Both will serve you well. The Anaconda has a much beefier frame and will handle Buffalo Bore's 44 Mag +P+ ammo in case you feel a need for it. The 629 can handle regular 44 Mag, but it's really not built for +P or +P+. The S&W will also be a bit lighter in weight due to the frame and cylinder not being as big.

An example of an Anaconda was reviewed elsewhere on KZfaq a couple of weeks ago, and it’s cylinder locked up super tight. Quality control inconsistencies?

Finger groove grips never fit my hands. The raiswd potion is always on my fingers. Bill Wilson makes a great rear sight.

That's a tough one. I'd take the Python, but the Anaconda is still a great gun.

I bought the 6" and 8" and emailed Colt to ask about the rear site 'slop.' Their response: "Yes, the target sights do have a little play in them. I would suggest putting a small dab of locktite on the windage set screw so it does not back out on you." ...I'm a novice on all this, I'm not sure what that would do in relation to the slop issue, and doesn't one want the ability to adjust the windage and elevation screw without Locktite-ing them down? Anyhoo just thought I'd share. When I tighten down the elevation screw, there is no slop, but there shouldn't be any slop at any elevation for the sight it seems. I suppose one solution is the scope mount and a scope and the rear sight goes away.

I'm guessing that the Colt rep thought you were referring to the rear blade wobbling if the set screw got loose. Adding to the confusion is that not all Anacondas exhibit the problem. I have a 6" Conda with a tight rear sight. The 8" is the one with a little bit of slop.

All I know is that on both 6" and 8," the elevation screw was about halfway tightened down, resulting in the slight left/right play if you wiggle the blade if that's what it's called, whatever the screw goes into. When you tighten down the screw almost fully, there's no more wiggle.

@@Austinlivin . That is true. If you tighten down the elevation screw all the way then the wiggle goes away. That's because with the elevation screw all the way down, you are basically squeezing the sight assembly against the frame.

@@MysteryWheelgunner I wonder if anyone has in fact taken the time to ship back to Colt and if so exactly what is done to remedy the situation. When I mentioned I'd read that some were actually shipping them back for some solution, their reply was you never know what to believe on the internet. I guess I should have specifically asked if they are offering to do anything about it or have authorized a ship-back and worked on any. Not on my priority list if so but would be good to know what their solution is if it's an option.

@@Austinlivin In the comments, there's a thread where someone did send it back under warranty. According to the gun owner, Colt tightened up the slop.

I seen in a other video of a guy had to replace his rear sights on the anaconda because the rear sight is so sloppy he replaced it with a Wilson combat rear sight that cost $120 problem solved but a bit expensive

The rubber grips are a no go. For the price of this gun it should have better sights and nice wood grips. Same for Python sights. I guess I have to wait another two years until Colt works out the rest of the bugs

I really like the feeling of the rubber grips. Wood grips do look amazing.
