Just to add to what RBG has done for women... because of her women can have their own bank account, we can lease an apartment or buy a home without a male cosigner, we can consent to our own medical treatment, and we can't be fired for being pregnant and refused to be hired as mothers just to name a few. We owe so much to this force of nature. May your memory be a blessing RBG

Bekahs comments about RBG really disappointed me. As someone who tries to be socially conscious, you should know that RBG is one of the biggest supporters and pioneers of some of women’s most pressing issues. Without her, you and your daughter would not have the rights you have today. Now that she is gone and the position is to be filled, this decision will affect our futures forever. Please be respectful.

I completely agreed. She was so insensitive. Look, I am a lady from Namibia (Africa) who knows very little about RBG, but yet I understand she means ALOT to the American people and her death is very painful for many. Even though she must just be ignorant, I wish atleast she could have been more sensitive and cared for what Jess was sharing. Because you could just already tell that it was difficult time for Jess. And Bekah didn't care at all.

Right?! Even after Jess explained who RBG was, Bekah still had the audacity to say I made fun of people who were crying over her death. Making fun of anyone mourning anyone’s death is really messed up even if you don’t know who they are.

Big lover of this pod, but have to agree. I’m Canadian.. I know she wasn’t a perfect person, but I fully recognize the difference she has made. I just thought it was strange because I consider Bekah to be pretty “woke” and knowledgeable... I know we can’t all be experts on everything but I just didn’t feel her flippant attitude about it came off well. Then in her stories she did a little piece after she googled some stuff but in my opinion it felt rushed.

Bekah, I'm revoking your "social justice warrior" card until you read RBG's autobiography and "The Notorious RBG." That you could be so callous as to laugh at people who mourned her death is so disrespectful and shocking. You WOULD NOT HAVE A CAREER as anything other than a clerk, secretary or nurse without her. You've been lucky enough to have grown up seeing women in all careers being successful and making tremendous contributions to society so it's possible you just take that for granted. Thank RBG for that. Ex: My mom and dad worked at the same college. My dad was the only one eligible for benefits because he was considered "head of household." Women couldn't get credit in their name. Men couldn't be considered "caregivers" and receive tax credit for those expenses because only women were considered to be "caregivers." Women who had gone to school and earned prestigious degrees couldn't get jobs in their careers because they were women. You could be fired if you got pregnant. You could be asked in interviews if you planned to become pregnant and that would have impacted your ability to get the job. Personally, I had to join the workforce as a secretary and although I was imminently more qualified I watched inexperienced men get promoted above me time and time again. Eventually, I was able to rise to the level of VP in a Fortune 50 company because of RBG. I've always admired you, Bekah, but you need to address this in your next podcast.

Firstly, I cannot begin to comprehend that Bekah admits she doesn’t know much about RBG and yet makes fun of people for mourning her loss. It’s one thing to not be bothered by her death because you don’t know all the work she’s done, but to laugh at people that are is something else entirely. On top of that, to admit it in a podcast is just bizarre. I mean even if you don’t know about her, this is a really big deal right now. Being uneducated shouldn’t make you lake empathy. I saw Bekah commented on this on her insta stories and also decided to point out RBGs missteps. Didn’t really address the laughing or anything which sucks. Thank you Jess for encouraging Bekah to read more about RBG and giving her some additional info. Secondly, If it was Kelley instead of madi that would be ridiculous. He was clearly confused mostly by Madi. I mean he was so hung up on Madi. Also that would mean peter was still talking to Kelley while being engaged to Hannah Ann because they would have had to talk about production stuff considering he wasn’t hung up on Kelley in the finale because she seemed mostly uninterested. Also, the girls are all probably besties because they look back and realize Peter was extremely confused and would’ve happily continued dating 6 girls forever if he could. Idk I think peter sucked though lol.

RBG was not an inspiration for everyone. RBG did fight for women and LGBT rights but she was also extremely anti-indigenous and anti-black (i.e. her doctrine of discovery ruling). Some of these commentators preaching that bekah should read more about her should do some more reading about her racism themselves

@@jnada101 I'm a labor and civil rights attorney and familiar with RBG's work. I of course cannot tell BIPOC how to feel about RBG, but the BIPOC attorneys with whom I work feel that denigrating RBG as only a white feminist is lazy. She regularly worked with black attorneys in her career at the ACLU, including authoring Supreme Court briefs. Do I think she has a careerlong record as leftist as I'd prefer? No, and she's certainly made mistakes in my mind, particularly related to Indiginous land rights, which tempers her legacy. But I think she learned throughout her life (including retracting her original statement on Kaepernick) and think painting her as merely anti black and anti Indigenous is a serious disservice to everything she accomplished.

Hmmm not sure how it was deemed acceptable for Bekah to admit publicly that she was making fun of people mourning RBG’s death. You should honestly be ashamed of yourself. Jess, if you want our vote for best podcast, I would separate yourself from someone who’s morals are poor at best. I have always been supportive of this podcasts and both of you, but wow, that was incredibly inappropriate and hurtful. The willful ignorance is obscene. Funny that Becca can claim that she is liberal and “woke,” but then see that an entire nation of people (WOMEN, specifically) are mourning the death of this trailblazer in politics and gender equality and her first instinct is to laugh and make fun of the situation rather than educating herself on the current event. Must be nice to be a white woman who has the privilege to coast by in life, not aware of the people who fought until their dying breath for her and her daughter’s (s’) rights. I’m glad that my right to get married and right to body autonomy possibly being swiped out from underneath me is funny to you. Get educated.

If she didn’t know about RBG’s history that isn’t your place to condemn her! Everyone reacts differently to things, and Bekah gave her honest first thoughts and was receptive to Jess, which is all you can ask for. The living person RBG was may have died but her ideas she fought for do not die with her! Some people don’t idolize RBG/any sort of political or legislative leader but rather what they fight for, and that is okay- it’s how we are able to keep fighting for those rights long after those leaders die. Love you all and hope you’re all registered to vote in this upcoming US election because we are gonna need y’all storming the polls!!!❤️

But people don't just cry at her death in and of itself, which is of course terribly sad, but also because of what it may mean for civil rights going forward dependent on when and with whom her vacant position is replaced. Her ideals didn't die with her, of course. But her vote does.
@mickeyn9877
@mickeyn9877 3 жыл бұрын
kateliness2 I completely understand your point as well as anyone who cried over her passing- it definitely scares me that so much could be taken away by these potential SCOTUS nominees from the current president. I had more complex emotions about it because I remember how much people pushed her to step down during Obama’s second term in order to fill the vacancy before someone like Trump could potentially fill it with someone really harmful rather than another progressive and incredible justice that would carry on the legacy of RBG’s career, and she refused to step down. Our rights shouldn’t be at risk because of one woman’s death but here we are... *big sigh*. I just was sad that people were not listening to the entire podcast because of a bad take on Bekah’s part about people being upset over RBG’s passing.
@kateliness2

@@mickeyn9877 I get that! And I also remember her refusal to step down during Obama's presidency. She of course couldn't have foreseen this (and for a large portion of his presidency, there may have been trouble with a replacement due to Republican control of the Senate).

I agree- I hated the ending because it seemed super fake (the Madi thing) and I wasn’t surprised they didn’t even get off the ground. I think the producers felt they needed some sort of neatly wrapped up ending because of how badly it went. I personally think I would have respected him more if he had ended the show when Madi self-eliminated. That would have sucked but it would have been more real and better than the actual contrived ending.

I just listened to a clip of Click Bait with Bachelor Nation and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be about the show at all. At least from the teaser. Strange, isn’t it? Have to wait and see I guess but I have a bad feeling about it. If this is going to be about current events, they chose Joe and Hannah Ann who both have questionable (to put it nicely) histories when it comes to BLM. Then they throw Tayshia in with them. I really hope she’s able to hold her own and stand her ground but I’m not so sure given what we’ve seen of her so far.

Not surprised about the depression and suicide stats amongst the youth. I’m a millennial, and every time someone asks me why I’m not on social media I simply say it’s toxic, and I am met with puzzled stares. It’s a world where everyone is primarily showing their best self to one another, which is not reality, and by default causes everyone else to think THEIR life is therefore faulty. While of course it has a few benefits, social media is unhealthy by nature and will only continue to mentally and emotionally harm everyone using it - and the real kicker is it does so insidiously.

I’m pretty sure the break up with Hannah Ann was like REALLY early February might have even been last days of March and in a podcast that I listened to, when he did that whole tour of pods in early quarantine Peter said that he saw Kelly at a super bowl party which was the weekend of the 2nd!!! So either Peter broke up with Hannah RIGHT BEFORE the super bowl and then saw Kelley or he saw Kelley and then broke up with Hannah like RIGHT AFTER.... But if u remember Peter was really partying it up that weekend with Kygo the dj, and I think it might have even been u Jess who said this, but there were rumors about how Pete was definitely not acting like someone with a fiancé at home at that time

Absolutely turned off and disgusted by Bekah. The ignorance and disrespect in the comment she made about RBG, “my sister and I were laughing at the people crying...” 😠 good for Jess but absolutely cannot continue to listen to a podcast hosted by woman in which one makes a comment like that regarding the woman who is single handedly fought her whole life for the rights that DIRECTLY APPLY to Bekah. She fought a whole life’s fight for women’s equality and after her passing Bekah makes that comment? EW what an ignorant person I am truly disgusted and that was not what I wanted to hear starting off my day today. Shame on you Bekah, please go educate yourself and think twice next time before you ever make a comment like that again about RBG. Rest in power RBG ❤️ we women owe you everything

Bekah is very correct that all though the ideas and concepts in the social dilemma are things that we need to know and hear about, it is dramatized and it is geared toward our emotions so that we have an emotional reaction. Which is why she said people say to question everything, and then don’t. We should watch the social dilemma and take it in and still always question. At the end of the documentary I did feel very informed though. Some of the final monologues were very powerful and I think at the end of the day the focus was on keeping in check with these data companies, and in a way how it reflects unchecked capitalism. Not a bad idea lol
