My plan is to send both kids to college, maybe watch them get married and when they have kids I want to babysit them so they can work just like what my parents did for me because I’m retiring in 6 years after teaching for 30 years. Then I want to spend the rest of my time volunteering at churches tutoring underprivileged kids so they can succeed in life. And if I have any time left over I want to write fan fiction and go to cons dressed as a Pikachu. I have simple dreams.

Funny story--I interviewed with Wizard back in the day, and they were actually turned off by me having worn a suit to the interview. It came up a number of times during the day (this included various chats and lunch), and I actually think it torpedoed the interview for me. Go figure!

Career planning is at a weird place for me now because I'm in my mid 40s. My one career has pretty much maxxed out and it's just a countdown to when I retire now. My other has flexibility, but I'm kind of happy where I am and I'm also so specialized that a career move could be tricky. We'll see. I kind of need career #1 to end before I can really think about flexibility on career #2. Anyway, comics. I see Scarlett #1 is getting two of those Jason Howard profile covers. The bastards keep reeling me back in.

All these creators are impeccably dressed... then there's Victor Santos (Polar) rocking a casual jeans and hoodie look. My personality test suggests I shouldn't waste time on something I'll be mediocre at, no matter the effort. Instead, I got a business partner. They can handle sales while I focus on my strengths. I already have an agent to find gigs, and for creator-owned projects, I'll find a publisher. If not, LaunchBoom's services can help with Kickstarter campaigns. I'm experienced enough to recognize my strengths and weaknesses. Just like you can't turn a sedentary genius mathematician into an Olympic athlete, some things might not be a good fit despite the effort. Kudos to those super geniuses who can do everything well. I'm not one of them. (Yeah, "Gary V" that. It won't happen. Too bad at sales for that, so I took another path.)

I had a job where management kept giving us these kind of tests. It was colors though it was broken down by whether you were a rational introvert or emotional extrovert kinda thing. I hated taking them and I'm not sure I agree with their accuracy but it did correctly peg me as an introvert, which is fine in my day job, but now that I'm making comics, I do work at that since you have to be willing to market yourself.

This is stuff I'm trying to teach my kids as they become adults. I'd encourage anyone looking to improve these skills to also practice talking to people in every day life, store clerks, neighbors, etc. I'm an introvert and constant practice really helps.

6 mins: I'd say Costume Design & Visual Merchandising for individual appearance, acceptable for a creative. Also, looking dishevelled after working through the night to meet a deadline is not the same as ignoring personal hygiene 👍
