Retired Special Forces soldier John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) lives with daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano) in isolation, but his privacy is disturbed by former commander Franklin Kirby (James Olson), who warns him that his fellow soldiers are getting killed one by one. After Kirby leaves, Jenny is kidnapped by former Latin American dictator Arius (Dan Hedaya), who wants Matrix to restore him to power. Instead, Matrix sets out to take down the rogue leader and rescue his daughter.

The filmmakers were aware of it and just embraced it. The director got an early copy of Rambo 2, which came out around the same time as Commando, so he decided to one up them in terms of kills. That’s partially why the finale is absolutely insane in regards to the body count, it was already going to be big, but they made it bigger! Absolutely love it, they just didn’t care and absolutely went for it!

Though to get through all that madness & visceral derangement & hate & all those psychoses & sexual repression would happen once maybe twice per year. Matrix just caught him at a bad time. For if events as depicted happened one day later Matrix & Bennett could have come to some type of reconciliation while reestablishing their once tight friendship (before Bennett went berserk & off the deep end!). They coulda been lovers. Anyways, I'm going to leave such hypothetical speculation for future generations of erudite historians, movie buffs & renowned "experts" to debate, squabble & perhaps kill each other over. Humankind as a whole isn't evolved enough to handle the truth. Wait until the year 2123, then it shall be revealed. Between now & then (cue to this comically familiar Germanic accent)... let off some steam Bennett!

"Over the top" doesn't do it justice. Perhaps over the moon, or over the galaxy, far, far away. Beast mode Freddie Mercury was a worthy adversary. And he might have been more flaming, if you know what I mean. Even without the furnace. Always thought that furnace door must have been super hot, while they were using it to fight with one another. Such common sense questions went out the window during this flick. Thoroughly enjoyed this one back in the day. Plus a preteen Alyssa Milano...watching her daddy fight to the death. Back when Americans could enjoy the spectacle without guilt...oh well.
