Thats a charge compensator, it stores refrigerant during the winter and releases it in cooling mode in the summer. It’s hollow on the inside, it works on temperature difference. We usually add them on mismatched systems when we’re worried about head pressure problems in the winter, if the evap can’t handle all the refrigerant in heating mode.

I had this exact thing happen. Condenser on 5 story roof of an elderly care facility. We did our best to flush out the lines when we replaced the comp, haven't had issues since.

Get a strong magnet like a neodymium so you can slide up and down to pull them out.

Wow, nice video, that compressor had a party! Rheem / Ruud uses charge compensators in suction line for heat pumps. I forget exactly which cycle it is for, but I think it for a smaller indoor coil to adjust the charge in heat mode... Could be opposite, but that's what it is.

my 3rd compressor change, ever was like that, it puked the scroll back into the suction line, i had to pull the pipe off of the suction valve to get it all out

Great job Jeff I think with the reems that other piece by the compressor is a reciever oil filter dryer I think the newer rheems come with them inside the compressor I know hvac guy often relocates them outside the units but check but I know In Maryland like my area rheems are not that big it's all carrier York and Lennox. Are Also Jeff I appreciate small buisneses more than these guys who go around and buy up small hvac companies over multiple states let's say I just checked out one guys channel from new York and I will never watch him again bevause he was too political then saw he was running his buisness in central Florida too and I am like why when you get too big as an hvac company it losses that personal touch to each area. Plus I did not like his making hvac great again crap. It's like just take care of your custumers where you live. Just made me mad because that's what has happened in my area which is very close to delaware if only I lived 15 minutes away down in Wilmington I would be in your service area or closer. Who knows maybe I will move to Rehoboth someday. Anyway great video but I don't like hvac videos that are too political I don't mind having discussions over things like overforienazation or even discussions on things that directly affect the industry but I don't like seeing political signs in hvac videos or signs of your political canadates you support that's all.
