I just found out my great-great grandfather was a man named Timothy O'Connor who came to America on a boat from Cork, Ireland. My family are really abusive people so I don't really talk to most of them and I've never felt connected to my history but I do with Timothy and his son Edward. He was put into a sanitarium at 67 for "mania" and he lived there until he was 103. I was always obsessed with drawing spirals and the square geometric designs that are nested together, just like those in this stone since I was very, very young. At the age of 13 I carved a spiral into my hand so I could have a scarification tattoo. It's the only thing I've ever wanted on my body, nothing else ever seemed important or permanent in my psyche. This stone takes me back to my childhood psyche in such a way that I can't explain. It's neato. I've been doing ancestor ceremonies for Timothy and Edward and I just don't know what's happening but I feel empowered and connected to the earth, to myself and to other people in a way that was atrophied for a long time. Thank you for this, it's a stone, but it is also a salve. 💓🌱

This is a tangent, but it's fascinating to me that you mention your wanting and carving a scar of a meaningful symbol on your hand as a child, and that you've been drawing these symbols since you were young. I dated a man who also felt the desire as a child to scarify a meaningful symbol onto the back of his hand (and did so -- turned out surprisingly quality for the work of a child), and I've been filling notebook margins with these spirals and chevrons since I was a kid too! Ancestral memory at work I wonder?

This is fabulous. When I visited years ago, there was no fence around the stone and you could run your hands over it. Visiting Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth , standing stones and barrows--- these were the most vivid memories.

Thanks, Anthony! I have a tattoo of the triple spiral on my forearm. I plan to have the entire stone on my arm in the future.

At Clogher, Co Tyrone, Knockmanny their are stones with the triple spiral, but over the years people have been carving silly thing's on the soft sand stones, so it is now covered over with concrete and soil, the locals call it Queen Anya's tomb, this is not far from were I live.

When I was lucky enough to visit, the entrance stone carvings reminded me of Van Gogh's Starry night and I wonder does it represent the night sky or Milky way, where many ancient people believed the soul travels to after death. The Incas are one example.

I wholeheartedly believe that stone was at one time place on two, tall standing stones as a hanging lintel portal stone directly above the roofbox.

These are all over the place in prehistoric times, because they are used as washboards for washing clothes. Very effective at getting out dirt and stains. Some people think they are magic cymbols! Ha ha. Little do they know they are getting tatoos of washday on their arms.

Convinced that it's writing is when the thing was built and by whom.. Just like we have today when a statue is built they have the date and time.. And i think no one can decipher it.. Just a theory... Any takers???
