This three part series is tackling the oft misunderstood portion of scripture; Romans 10:9-13. What is the proper understanding of this passage in light of the scripture? Does confession play a role in salvation, and what does it mean to call on the name of the Lord?

The purpose of Romans 10: 8, 9, 10, is to put all of your confidence (trust) in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation. The entire book of John says believe about 99 times, no mention of repentance or confession. Acts 16:31 " And brought them out and said, sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." No, a sinner's prayer saves nobody. You don't have to ask for forgiveness. It's not what you say that saves you, but rather, it's placing your faith in Christ alone! You can say what you want, but it's truly whether you've placed your faith in Jesus alone for salvation.

Thank you Pastor Jesse for these video’s. I’ve been struggling with this issue for a while now, my independent Baptist church has people who do believe that confession is necessary for salvation and there’s people who do not. it’s interesting to note that the younger generation in my church is more adamant on confession for salvation than the older people which is probably do to the fact that there heavy influenced by the N.I.F.B. Movement. I’m also a young person but I don’t subscribe to those doctrines and I agree with you 100%. I want to leave my church but sadly the church I’m currently apart of is the most clear on the gospel in my area. It brings me much pain but the Lord will guide me. Thank you so much for your ministry and may God Bless you.

Thank you for your support. The NIFB movement is very inflammatory and has a big draw right now. We always need to use discernment and rightly divide the word. I pray you can reach people in your church with the truth, or that you can start a ministry of your own. Please look forward to more on this topic the next two weeks. Grand start, thanks for also backing up Onorato Diamante (Norm) a good teacher as well. The new IFB S A had helped me climb out of my confusion of false salvation some years back along with Pastor Arnold and others like them. But I found S A has a problem with some people being able to be saved, as well. I often thought even before getting out of the false salvation mess, that Romans 10: 9-10 as a salvation verse just did not fit well. It is also used to claim the new heart, and that salvation in not in the mind but somehow in the heart creation a work type of salvation or as most know it as a lordship salvation.

Confession with the mouth/calling upon the name of the lord saves a person from physical destruction as evidenced from comparing scriptures romans 10 and Joel 2. Believing with the heart is what saved a person spiritually from eternal hell. The bible says the only way yoi can confess with the mout or call is that you first believe. Thus a person who calls upon the name of the lord recieves the benefit of both physocal and spiritual salvation as their calling or confessing implies that they first believed to begin with.

@jareddewaal3871 He rose again proving eternal life is what he gives. His resurrection is the very hope of eternal life. We may die physically, but we will rise to be with Christ eternally. If Jesus did not rise, then our faith is meaningless. We may as well forget it all at that rate. - Trent

Loving God is action; it involves doing what he says to do. Salvation is free; it is believing in Jesus Christ who paid for your sin. You can’t love God if you go on sinning because the two are simply contradictory. Loving God is stopping sin and doing what he says. That is abiding in Christ. This fluctuates, so it’s good that we do not have to live God in order to be saved. Nonetheless, God has given believers everything they need in Christ to be able to love Him perfectly. We simply have a stubborn sin nature attached to these bodies. - Trent

Romans 10:9 is not adding confession to salvation. The next verse says we confess unto our salvation and we do it because we’re saved not to be saved
@BibleLine
@BibleLine 10 ай бұрын
All confession is is coming to an agreement. The agreement a believer needs to come to is with regards to who Jesus is. Specifically the Jews rejected that He is the Christ. Therefore they needed yo come to the agreement that Jesus is the Christ. This fits very well with the notion of repentance. They needed to change their mind (about Jesus - who he is) and believe in Jesus Christ (that he died and rose for their sin). The confession is not some out loud plea, sin-fession, speaking to the air, or Lord Lord mess. It’s just agreeing about who Jesus is. This is really what we do when we witness to others. We want to tell people WHO Jesus is and WHAT He has done for them. Thanks. - Trent

@@BibleLine i completely agree. Do you mind telling me what the importance of the burial and resurrection have on our salvation? I get the blood atonement part but then I always hear about the burial and resurrection too but Jesus said it was finished when he died not when he resurrected so does that mean that the resurrection was more of a proof miracle than actually having something to do with our salvation?
@BibleLine
@BibleLine 10 ай бұрын
The details need to be understood by the individual. Yes, Jesus’ death for sin is the crucial piece, but as 1 Cor. 15 explains; if the dead rise not, then our faith is in vain. The burial and resurrection are crucial and miraculous proof that he did what he did. It is important also to note that we obtain eternal life upon belief. We will die and have new resurrected bodies like Jesus. The burial and resurrection are important, but we don’t need to spend much time on them in a gospel conversation. Most people get what you’re saying. If someone argues (typically those of other faiths or atheists), then you can expound. - Trent

@@BibleLine But 1 Cor 15:2 says by also which ye are SAVED meaning that we trust the whole gospel to be saved and he included the burial and resurrection so we trust in that too. I just don’t understand how that interferes with our salvation, yes it is a proof miracle and his promise to resurrect us on the last day but how does that play in to my salvation and faith?
@BibleLine
@BibleLine 10 ай бұрын
I don’t think you saw what I was saying. The death was the payment. Without the burial and resurrection, the death was meaningless. Yes someone needs to know all three. What I’m trying to tell you is that the death, burial and resurrection are all components we should include in the our witnessing because the Bible does so. The individual needs to know Jesus is alive and that he is not longer dead after 3 days. This is crucial to our faith. We shouldn’t argue and mince words over this. The message should be shared, and we can explain deeper if someone is struggling on a concept. There’s no interference with our salvation in this. The crossless gospel would be an interference. - Trent

Most of you people don't know what your talking about. you look in ACTS HOW TO BE SAVED. FAITH ONLY IS NOT THE WAY YOU GET SAVED. they ONLY RECEIVED THE Holy Spirits ONE WAY. jAMES 2:24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. ONLY PLACE IN THE BIBLE THAT TALKS ABOUT FAITH ALONE.

Eph. 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Salvation is not some kind of cooperative effort. It's a FREE GIFT that is received by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Rom. 4:5). AFTER we are saved, we SHOULD do good works since this is the will of God for our lives (Eph. 2:10). James 2:14-26 is written to BELIEVERS to urge them to make their faith PROFITABLE to themselves and others. While justification before God is through faith alone (Rom. 4:5), other people cannot see our faith; rather, they can only see our works. Furthermore, there will be great profit in the form of future reward for the believer in Jesus Christ who walks according to good works in this life.
