thanks so much! this will sound dumb, but the step i was missing was selecting hdmi from source. everyone else was saying it would automatically mirror as soon as the wires were plugged in

That's exactly what I am doing and I bought another second-hand TV because it worked really intermittently. I connected the new TV, it all worked but when I turned it off and came back to connect again later the screen mirror screen does not come up. It does not seem to recognise the TV at all even though it had already connected to it. It's an older TV so no wifi connection. So now I have 2 TVs that only connect to the TV when they feel like it. I'm trying to teach scheduled zoom classes so frustrating!

For some reason after connecting, I get the same menu where I can mirror displays but the tv keeps saying no signal. Same thing happened on my sister's tv. It used to work but for some reason, not any more. The tv is set to hdmi2 which is what I plugged into.

I have a Macbook Pro 2006. Recently the backlight went out and I bought a cable to use the hdmi feature to use an external monitor,(actually I tried 3 monitors and all of them said invalid input). Have you come across this problem? I did the same procedure you did. I can see the internal monitor if I shine a bright light on the back and front and was able to get the visuals you have shown on the original monitor but on the external monitor nothing works. Have also come across others with the same exact problem and no one I've come across on the internet search was able to solve it. I did see one electronic technician fix a component on the main board with a microscope and make it work but he never showed if it was able to connect an external monitor on it. Let me know if you know of a way to fix it without going to a repairman. Thanks

It looks way better on my laptop(MBP2015) but when I connect my laptop to TV via HDMI and drag video to tv and play it, it will be blurryish and laggy. Great Video. I have a question tho. I crack my MacBook Pro 2019 screen. So you can’t see anything on the screen. I have bought a usb-c to HDMI cable. And I am hoping it will connect up to the monitor and then I can use the Mac even tho the screen is cracked. Will this be mirrored onto the TV screen? Without having to do anything on the MacBook? A lot of people complain that they can't get the sound on their tv, and I would want to make the connection to watch my videos, KZfaq, etc on tv from my Macbook, but if there is no sound on the tv, then that defeats the purpose of doing this!

When I connect my Mac Pro with HDMI to my Toshiba Smart TV, my compiuter screen immediately turns to a miniscule setting, virt ually unreadable. Solution?

2017 new 15" macbook pro touchbar's USB-C port -> new satechi new multiport adapter bought FROM apple store -> new 15m long HDMI cable -> new samsung QLED 2018 TV... All connected just fine. AND NOTHING WORKS! Pressing the Option key to reveal the "Detect displays" button (in the "Displays" settings doesn't show my QLED tv or any other display except for the MBP's own screen (the "Display Arrangements" tab never opens as the MBP and the QLED tv just don't "see" each other)... My QLED tv just says "No Signal" on the screen display for the HDMI port's source (I've tried all 4 HDMI ports).... EDIT: Just found a short, 1m, hdmi cable and it worked (after I've spent 5 hours trying to get it to work - hence the livid message above)!!! Does anyone know if the HDMi cable LENGTH is the problem with my below setup, eg maybe my mac via the multiport adapter may just not supply enough power to send the signal though 15m of the cable length? Or was I just really unlucky and bought a brand-new HDMI cable that's faulty? I mean, if 15m & 20m HDMI cables exist, that must mean that video signal should pass through them, no?
