Go with Johnny Slicks Beard Products. He was a former Marine and has organic products which is totally different from all natural. Best stuff out there!

Chuckles, fun video! 👍 It’s always fun putting shiny new parts on a rig! I can’t imagine it would hurt anything to add a filter to catch debris At least the wrench landed outside the engine bay! My luck is it falls in the bay and I spend an hour fishing it out Why’d you go up in temp on the thermostat? Just curious You can use t shirts or underwear to filter the (old) coolant to reuse, just an FYI

As I understand it, International designed these engines to run at 203 degrees but Ford switched it to 195 degrees so now there's a small market to switch it back for efficiency and performance sake. I do like the way the filter looks on the engine and there hasn't been any adverse effects in any way so I'm calling it a win, ha!

Did you ever open up your first couple of filters and see what they caught? Newer engine may have a lot in there. I'm just under 300k and wondering if I should add filter. Seems like a nice to have since obviously it's made it 21yrs without!

Funny you should mention that. The short answer is “I’m going too”… The long answer will be a video for sure, along with showing the results. I did buy a vice and a filter opener for this very purpose so I’m looking forward to seeing how those work as well.

I also have that re-routed hose and that filter is right on it. I’ve noticed that filter gets pretty warm. Have you had any issues with that?

I haven’t had any issues at all with the Sinister Diesel coolant filtration system but you’re correct, she gets HOT! 😀

What coolant is that? Im a fellow 7.3 owner, and I believe the correct coolant for that truck is orange not green. Its important because Ford (Motorcraft) specs call it out specifically for use in Powerstrokes.

LVCJ great question. So my understanding is the Kentucky plant in 2002 and 2003 put in a hybrid coolant that was gold while all other 7.3’s had a ford motorcraft conventional coolant which is green. Also, my understanding is the 7.3 is a lot more forgiving in terms of coolant and newer engines with extensive emissions are the ones that require very very specific coolant standards. With a Ford recommended full coolant swap every 15k, I’ll likely go with the top of the line Ford Motorcraft coolant next.

You should have used Evans Waterless Coolant. Never has to be replaced. You can put it in and forget about it.

Evans is crap, doesn’t get rid of heat. It will never boil over. Thus causing major issues.

I haven’t added a new one yet. I have a Mishimoto trans cooler and I wanted to add a Mishimoto radiator at the same time.

They send that piece to remove the plug because some of them are the 5/16 square. I know because mine is and I don't have a 5/16 square.

What switch panel is that?

Thanks for the question. It’s a generic toggle switch panel that’s available on eBay by a few sellers. The covers snap onto the outside of the toggles that give it the custom switch look. The cool thing is, you can switch them at any time and recustomize the panel in a matter of seconds if you wish.

So I was asked this question earlier and I was using a premium coolant but I did some research and came up with this info: the Kentucky plant in 2002 and 2003 put in a hybrid coolant that was gold while all other 7.3’s had a Ford motorcraft conventional coolant which is green. FWIW, I just did this very procedure to my 00 7.3. I went down a rabbit hole on coolant type. Finally just called a diesel shop I trust and asked them what they use. They said they use green for the 7.3 which they specialize in. So I just went to O’Reilley and got the off the shelf stuff.

Why a 203 thermostat?

So the engine was designed to run at 203 but when Ford dropped them in the trucks they made a few modifications and one of those was a lower temp thermostat. It’s commonplace these days to replace the thermostat for the originally designed 203 degree thermostat

@@73LiterTruckStuffis there an issue with running a lower temperature thermostat? I just ordered mishimoto lower temp which runs at 189…now I’m second guessing the purchase.

@@joshuafoster6764 No not at all my man. One of the adjustments that Ford did to the (tractor) engine when putting it in the truck was the thermostat. The engines were apparently developed to be ran with a higher temp then Ford put in the engines so dudes are swapping them out now is all.
