In June 2020 I purchased a 2013 Ford F350 6.7 diesel and I am the 2nd owner. Not sure of the maintenance schedule that was followed I made a decision to replace the coolant. I have never had a truck like this before and I have been following videos posted by Tom and I have learned so much. However when adding the new coolant I did not know that I had to add directly to the degas bottle. I was really stumped and then remembered at the beginning of all Tom's videos he gives his phone and email. The day before Thanksgiving I called him and to my surprise he answered on the second ring, he easily figured out where I went wrong and also gave me much additional information specific to my model and year to help me further make sure that it is up to it's maintenance schedule. To someone like me with very little mechanical background it was very comforting to have a resource like Tom. What a great guy.

I never thought it would be such a nightmare just picking out the right coolant, I had a T-stat changed out and when my mechanic gave my Jeep back to me with Dex-cool I almost popped a membrane until I did some research and realized that it was the proper stuff for it! Unbelievable how over-complicated it is.

On a diesel like the 7.3 PS, you still need to be adding a Supplemental Cooling Additive, such as Ford Motorcraft VC-8. This helps prevent cavitation in the engine. The Rotunda 328-2050 Coolant Test Strip can be used to monitor your coolant and the SCA strength.

@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
Most engines don't really need the VC-9 Iron Cleaner, unless your system is very rusty. I understand wanting to use Motorcraft products to be safe, but your engine requires either the old conventional coolant + SCA, or the newest poly-organic coolants. If you use the old stuff, you will have to test and/or change it much more frequently. If you are interested in the poly-organic coolants, please contact me directly at info@best-synthetic-oils.com .

I noticed on the amsoil website there is only the 50/50 premix available. You need straight concentrated coolant to properly change the coolant in a powerstroke 6.0 liter (after flushing completely with distilled water).
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
If you remove the engine block drain plugs, you can drain out the remaining water, and this also allows you to flush the dirt and casting sand out of the bottom of the engine. AMSOIL sells two 50/50 pre-mix coolants, and 1 concentrated coolant: - The pre-mix versions are: Passenger Car & Light Truck Coolant (ANTPC); and Heavy Duty Coolant (ANTHD). Either of these fully meet the Ford requirements. - The concentrated coolant is: Low Toxicity Coolant (ANT), and this product can be mixed with water to achieve the desired ratio, or used without water to achieve maximum freeze protection.
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
AMSOIL Low-Toxicity Coolant (product code ANT) is a poly organic product and is also a concentrate. This allows you to mix it with any distilled water leftover after the flush and achieve the proper mix.
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
It is a PG. But poly organic PG's will mix completely with EG coolants. That's why I like poly organic coolants - they work great and mix completely. Only issue is coolant life will be shortened if you mix it with too much product containing inorganic salts. Call me at (678) 787-3028 if you want to talk more.

Do polyorganic coolants require periodic additives to reach 150K service interval or is filtration enough or is filtration still necessary with polyorganic coolant? I would guess so to reach service interval but how often will filter require change?
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
You will need to check with the coolant manufacturer to determine any need for periodic additives or services. The AMSOIL coolants I mention in the video do not. Regarding filtration: If you were using a coolant filter that also dispensed Supplemental Cooling Additives (SCA) into the cooling system, you probably don't need that feature any longer. You can still use a cooling system filter to remove dirt, but you would need to switch to a filter element that didn't contain any SCA's.

2002 F350 7.3l, flushed my cooling system out a few months ago and put some orange OAT, extended life coolant to replace whatever was in there. It claims I can go 6 years or 960,000kms and I don't need to add SCAs. After watching this I am confused, am I supposed to add SCAs if I am using said ELC? Since my truck is a 2002, am I OAT compatible or do I use the gold hybrid mix HOAT, IOT/OAT that the 6.0l and 6.4l use? Is HOAT and OAT the same thing?
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom
@Best-Synthetic-Oilscom 7 жыл бұрын
First - you are good to go with ELC. Your engine was produced after the changeover date. Second - you will need to check with the coolant manufacturer to determine any service requirements. Some require SCA or revitalizers, while others do not. Also - be careful because the service intervals listed on most heavy duty ELC's are for large trucks and equipment. Service intervals for light duty equipment is usually shorter because their cooling system capacity is so much smaller and is worked harder. Third - HOAT and OAT are not the same thing. HOAT (or Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) coolants contain a mixture of Inorganic and Organic Acids.

Names are complicated. Look for products that don't contain any inorganic inhibitors or salts. Also avoid products that are Hybrids (such as HOAT coolants), since they are a mixture of inorganic and organic. The poly organic products will usually not require any maintenance prior to changing it. I can provide you with the information on the three Poly Organic Coolants sold by AMSOIL: (1) Passenger Car & Light Truck Coolant (product code ANTPC); Heavy Duty Coolant (product code ANTHD); and Low Toxicity Coolant (product code ANT). The ANTPC and ANTHD are both 50/50 pre-mix coolants, and are formulated with ethylene glycol as their base. The ANT is a concentrate and formulated with propylene glycol as its base. ANT can be used without water for maximum freeze protection in artic climates. You can read more and purchase from this link: www.best-synthetic-oils.com/specialty.html, or call me at (678) 787-3028.

Never heard of flushing every 15k on the old IDI I know you have to check your SCA level with test strips every other oil change and add as necessary and flush the coolant closer to 50k. Maybe I'm wrong and I more than likely am but 15k wow. I thought you could test and add rather than flush. I do know cavitation in the cylinder walls were a bad problem because of the failure to use SCAs.
