Wonderful video. A clear explanation of how to cover a plane. It's also heart warming to see a depiction of a father figure passing on an important skill to the next generation. We don't see enough of that today.

I’m amazed that I was able to do this in the late 70’s with an old mini travel iron my father gave me from Germany and zero training. It was like an anvil w a handle and needed a plug adapter for USA electrical outlets. The straight wings were easy. Then I built the Sterling Corsair U-Control. I’d wait til Baa Baa Black Sheep came on in the evening for motivation, then sit on the living room floor with the acft on a smooth plywood board and iron that stuff on. Somehow, I was successful. Now, thanks to videos like these and other great stuff Andrew shares, all the tools and equipment I need and want, a shop, and...I don’t do squat with it. Pathetic - shame on me.

That plane reminds me of my first balsa RC plane kit that I built, an Aerostar Trainer 20, I built it after I learned to fly with a Duraplane 20. Since the wing was wrecked on the Aerostar when I got it partially built, I used the foam wing from the Duraplane to fly it. Eventually I turned the Aerostar into a low wing, it flew amazing with that setup then ended up crashing it when an elevator servo broke gears when beginning a hard loop and it crashed nose first at full speed in my parent's farm field.

@@n1114v I have that Great Planes video on VHS somewhere, but don't know where that somewhere is unfortunately. I got it when I bought my G.P. PT-40 kit, two rolls of MonoKote, an O.S. .40FP and two bottles of Jet CA for $99.00 at Tower Hobbies back in the late 80's. I still have the plane in storage.

Copyright 1985ish It's 2021 Back when everybody built their planes out of kits and used Glow/Nitro 2-stroke/4-cycle engines. If you saw a electric it was extremely rare. The construction was primarily balsa wood and plywood. These days the ARFs are mostly made of foam and are electric powered. I'll stick with the 1985..........
