Crab Imperial, Chef Frank shows you how to make this old school Maryland classic.
INGREDIENTS....makes 3 servings
1lb. Blue crabmeat
1 1/2 cups mayo
1 tsp celery salt
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp minced fresh parsley
Recipe
1. Drain crabmeat but gently squeezing out all excess liquid.
2. In large bowl combine mayo, celery salt, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper.
3. Place crabmeat and parsley in a separate large bowl.
4. Start by adding 2/3 cup imperial mix to crab and parsley. Add enough imperial mix to coat the crabmeat. This mixture should be wet but not soupy.
5. Put crab imperial in casserole dish. DO NOT pack tightly.
6. Cover your crab imperial with moderate layer of the remaining imperial sauce.
7. Sprinkle with paprika.
8. Bake at 400 for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

As a born & raised Baltimorean... this looks very delicious! The one thing I would do different is substitute the paprika with old bay. No seafood dish is complete without Old Bay. Thanks for posting 🥰🫶🏽💓.

I made this for Christmas. My father in law said don't forget this recipe. He loved it. I wasn't expecting it to be as tangy as it was so I was a bit disappointed. However, 2 days later, I pulled the leftovers out of the refrigerator and heated it up and took a bite. WOW! It was wonderful. It must have been my taste buds were not ready for it on Christmas.

I'm in Maryland also, just put it in the oven but seems like way too much mayo, did you use one and a half cup Mayo and only 1 lb crab meat? TC

Wellll maybe...being from Md I get the inclination to put Old Bay on all things crab,but because there is no Old Bay you can really taste the ingredients that make it Imperial... but again I get it😎 Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Lol I will resist the ole Bay seasoning for now and will follow your recipe to the T ..I will know if i survived the taste experience without the ole bay..I am new to your channel so will be trying out some of your recipes will be fixing old school fried shrimp recipe today 😋 ✌🏾

Absolutely. Switch out the black pepper and paperika topping with Old Bay. Delicious.

put a little mixture on your spoon and sprinkle a little on it and taste it, if you like it add some to the mixture.

Celery salt is to imperial mix what old bay is to crab cake mix . Hope that helps!

I tried this to the T and it was good in flavor but a lot of liquid in the bottom of the dish. I made sure not to over sauce the crab as well. Just didn't work for me.

This got me thinking a lot about smoking MD blue crab. You would have to run a small test batch in the smoker. No more than 200 or 225 for like 30 minutes or so? I would think. Kind of like smoking Alaskan king crab in the shell. But it also got me wondering if I could take blue crabs, shell off, halved and cold smoke them like salmon at like 80 degrees for 18-24 hours. I guess you'd have to brine them first??? Maybe do a mild wood like alder. You got my mind working now!!!

@@bigr1856 I did the blue crab in the smoker after you cook the crabs put them in the smoker for aboutt 15 to 20 mins no more than 250 temp you can add some bbq sauce or melted butter with some herbs no need to open the shell before putting in the smoker. Crablegs, dungeness is also good in the smoker or on grill prior to smoking/grilling make you a nice butter sauce with whatever seasoning you like put the legs on 15-20 mins per side depending on the size brush with the butter sauce and dont forget to brush the body part as well the flip and do the same thing. I guarantee you that you will like them better than steam. I wish I can show you my video

Making this right now but wondering if I'm making a mistake? the recipe calls for one and a half cups Mayo but looks like you might have only put about a cup, toward the end you said put two thirds cup prepared sauce in and you should have a third left over but that doesn't add up to anywhere near one and a half cups...did you only start with about one cup mayonnaise? One and a half cup mayonnaise would be almost 16 oz? Ugh... I'm not exactly a great cook and afraid this is going to come out tasting like Mayo salad but guess I'll see 😥

Hi you only need to use enough mayonnaise to coat the crab the rest is for the topping. I mentioned in the video to add the mayonnaise mix a little bit at a time. So that it doesn’t get too soupy

Tweedle checking in. This shit looks good, I mean really good. I'm gonna make this and serve it with a nice 40 or a bottle of that Ripple, and we're gonna have a time. We're making this in maybe July or August, and we can skip the Rip. Plenty of fantastic beers out in these parts. Seriously good vid and delicious recipe. Hopefully can be reproduced with non-lump crab. Later Peephole!

Hello and thank you for sharing this awesome recipe.. I am currently going to make in the sausage roll maker some crab meat along with some tenderloin sausage rolls separate rolls not mixed.. but I had to adjust your recipe so it's not too runny.. was not hard.. cooked some vegies to mix with the crabmeat carrot ,onion ,bell pepper (orange,yellow) celery, mushroom after cooking out as much of the water as I could.. salt helps can't wait to see how they turn out.. :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9uco7mZsrWldas.html love this thing... so versatile :) if you don't already have one.. it's well worth the money.. Thank you for the insight, but not everything requires old bay my friend. Old bay would overwhelm the delicate flavors of the dish. The recipe I use is from The Sir Walter Raleigh. Classic old school recipe from this Maryland based chain who I worked for for over 10 years.
