A FAST Way to Break in a Boar Shaving Brush

To get rid of that funky smell: Soak for 10-30 minutes in dish soap and warm water. Then lather up the brush with a strong scented shave soap and let it sit over night and rinse it in the morning.
To soften the tips: soak the brush in a mug in the fridge for 24 hours and then rub it on a towel for a few minutes. Repeat this twice.

The Reddit forum describes putting the mug in the fridge for 24 hours. Do not use the fridge method if you have a wooden handle brush (like Semogue 1305). It will split the wood handle.

Yeah, I definitely didn't make this process up. I just tested it and it worked great, so I thought I'd share my findings.

I have two omega brushes. The to small and the to big one.😉 But since they broken in, with the same method like you said. they are performing like nothing else. And they are soft! I like my badgers a lot but the omegas really like them too. On a other way but still, they are maybe same good. Great brushes. Everybody should have one! 👍👍👍

Split ends in human hair is caused when the outer protective layer of the hair gets damaged and stripped off. There are a few things that damage the protective layer around hair like chemicals, physical stress, and thermal stress. When you soak the boar you are softening that layer and its getting removed by the towel agitation. But one thing you are not doing is adding any heat to help you with the process. I think if you used a hair dryer and dried the brush off with the hot setting after giving it the towel treatment that would help to make the ends to split.

@@CravingShaving You could probably use it at a distance. Blowing some hot air over the tips of the brush would aid the process.

This Omega brush is so much better than the Escali badger brush that sheds way too much. I didn't notice a bad smell other than that of a wet dog before I washed it. It hasn't shed a hair.Just got it today and haven't used it to lather on my face yet. I've been using a nice synthetic brush and looking to compare them.
