Take it from someone who has been traditional shaving for more than a decade, nothing lathers like a boar. When using a fussy soap or a hard soap, I go to my boar.

My grandfather did this. For boar and horsehair brushes. It would soften them and take away the animal smell. He would run it over his shaving strop. Same end results as if using a thick towel. Good video. Take care and enjoy the new brush.

Thanks! Excellent to hear about how the old timers have done it!

Great tutorial video, with the cold water soak technique well explained. This technique I have tried before but not in the same way, so will try this method on my next new boar brush. Thanks for the video.👏🤠🤟

Excellent video. I just had my dad's old dubl duck m5 re-knotted with a boar knot. It's my most special brush since it was his. I've used this method as well and it does work.

better then boar cheaper in the long run no break in .my Simpson Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hairbrush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair or boar can, cheap to buy, I have owned it for 5 years with no hair loss with no problems wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas

I just use a hairbrush or a comb to break them in.

I disagree that boar brushes take up to a month to break in. My first boar was a Semogue 830 and used it straight out the box. It wasn't prickly or uncomfortable at all IMO. I did make the mistakes of not washing it out and had a horrible smell that went away after a few uses. I would say after 3 uses most boar brushes are on their way to be broken in. My next boar was S.O.C. Taj. I palm lathered it for every 24 hours 5X's and my first use I got enough lather for 3 passes using Palmolive shave stick. I think Omegas don't break in like Semogue's but they are pretty much usable after 3 wet dry cycles. Recently I got an Omega 11137 $10 on Amazon and after 3 palm lathers it is mostly broken in. I've continued to palm lather with it about 9 since then and I think it's fully broken in at this point.

Would it be safe to use hair dryer on brushes of any type?
@jonathandavis2419 Жыл бұрын
I've never done it, but I wouldn't use any heat settings, just forced air. High heat would probably damage the bristles and the handle.

Agreed. Switch the hair dryer to the "Cold" temperature setting if you ever do actually use one on your brush for whatever reason (drying it after use before packing up and leaving a hotel during a trip for example). Otherwise you risk damaging both the handle and the bristles from the heat as previously said by Johnathan Davis. I'd say that is especially true of a shaving brush with synthetic bristles,as you could possibly risk just outright melting them depending on what type of synthetic material they are.

I dislike boar brushes.

Each to their own for sure. I like the fact that boar hair has a strong backbone and are particularly great for lathering hard soaps. I also agree with the break in method suggested in this video. 👍

Do any Shave Pucks or hard soaps are going to work?. You can mix and match old soaps? to fit in any mug or cup that you like to use. like (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arkos shave soaps?) Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop. the water keeps it from burning itself up? (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy does it? let cool don't want to crack the mugs or cups you're using? ( you just went it to congeal in your mug or cup') place in the sun, until soap hardens? When using Dry Brush more Water. For its (price point?)' (I use Dove bar soaps?) (use any soaps Out there ??) save your money spend it on your wife don't listen to the shave mafia.try to save people money in these inflationary times wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas
