Introducing, The Movable Wither Cage

What is this? A movable wither cage! Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. But still and awesome idea and technical challenge to potentially use movable wither cages in slimestone contraptions. I'm not much of a slimestone engineer myself so instead I show off how this new wither cage concept can be used to make a survival friendly obsidian end platform farm capable of producing up to 129 thousand obsidian per hour!

Woah I've been trying to do this for some months! I was talking to my friends on how a wither based tunnel bore could help a lot because coupled with some rng machine (not invented yet lol), you could make the wither shoot purple skulls every time and break literally every block, including fluids!

Really glad you linked to the wither archive, I find it really funny that you pretty much discovered exactly what Scorpio and jjl21 did a while ago. A wither based tunnel bore has been planned but lots of issues come with it

Well people tried making wither based quarries since withers/slime got added to the game. Sadly early designs by Myren (i0A5EZLd71U), as well as later designs by me using end crystals (lUEPmxsYwKo), all show that it's basically impossible to have a stable set up, wither can always glitch through blocks and escape. I'm afraid best you can do is bearly stable tunnel bores like the one Jing RS Lin showed (u7EW7wUmWWc)

I spoke with Oreo about this and apparently the entities phasing through blocks was an issue in 1.12 which does not seem to be present in the latest version of the game. This might have something to do with an attempted fix of MC-2025. As far as I can tell I have never had a wither phase through one of these setups while they were moving, all breakouts I have observed were due to the machine itself flying into a wither skull and exploding, which can happen if the skulls are being fired at certain trajectories.

I can't wait to see you wireless redstone video! Not that many people have covered the topic since 2No2Name discovered it. Currently, the main innovator is The Redstone Warper on KZfaq. I highly suggest you check his videos and get in touch, if you have not done so already. Wireless Redstone still has so much potential and it feels like there is much more yet to be innovated.

I’ve actually been working on this tech for 8 or 9 months on and off, just haven’t said much about it. Obviously not claiming cubic stole it from me or anything. But I got this moveable cage working and was pretty close to a movable tunnel bore, it was pretty crazy

Yes I made a item duper which fits with this Or just use shulkercraft's item duper you you build this obsidian farm north-south for example build the duper facing east-west meaning the items woudnt collide with the obsidian at the side or with the wither

If you can get the wither skulls to travel dead flat so that they hit a wall straight in front of them, you can make a tunnel bore with this.

U can also use a system with a wolf, detecting your presence in the end dimension, entering it the wolf will stand up which is detectable and your system can automatically shut down, leaving the end will make it sit down and give a seconf signal enabeling the system again.

@@fifi7354 if U leave the dogs dimension it will get sad and sit down, detectingthis is done with a contraption that uses a tripwire to pick up a signal if the dog is jumping, this can be done by putting a sheep 2 blocks infront of him and preventing him from getting to it by blocking of one half of the block. Incase the dog does not jump at all over a "longer" perdiod of time, which is detectable using a comperator-timer, it most likely means that he sat down causing the shutdown-signal to be turned off and the farm to be turned on again. Incase you ar wondering how this would work if the end is not loaded, it doesn't. You would have to build a contraption in the overworld to load the end constantly.

Built this thing on a paper server and I love it - no more farming obsidian by hand. Due to spawn protection, I couldn't use the wireless redstone, but a simple hopper timer in the OW did the job to start the snow golems. At 129k/h, I really only needed to run this once for a few hours to have more obsidian than I'll ever need (hopefully). It's worth noting that you can safely kill the withers after raising them by removing the sticky piston and honed block, ducking and punching past the lighting rod. Getting the withers to aggro on the iron golem (and not on me or some endermen) was a bit finicky, but it worked out after a few tries and some extra walls. Might just be a paper thing though. One of the withers' side heads still ended up targeting me after it got hit by snow balls. This didn't really effect the farm while running, but it did end up breaking the thing when I raised the withers back up (maybe you just can't raise the withers while the snow golems are active, idk, I couldn't find a way of disabling the snow golems remotely due to spawn protection). Oh well, given the amount of obsidian I made, I don't think I need to repair it anytime soon.

For anyone else having similar issues building a wireless transceiver (spawn protection, single-player entity ID, etc.), try using an item despawn timer.

Originally I wanted to use this to make a much simpler obsidian end pillar farm that would scale withers up and down the pillars, however it would likely be slower than the original end pillar farm but also more complex then the end platform design which obtains very good rates on its own.

If you prevent the main head from targeting anything, you won't get any blue skulls, so you don't need a cobble wall.

Scorpio has a concept like this which incorporates the use of a chunk loading detector to automatically toggle the withers attention when loading it.

@@harrypotter5460 it's not the same bro wireless redstone is a mechanic in game the entangled items is just inventory suppressed from updating that the item has been taken from the chest or any storage unit

Impressive farm! You could further improve it by automatically breaking the obsidian at the withers foot with headless pistons below the platform. These ones could be created by a precise timed extension while the platform is generating.

The pistons seem to just break if you try to remove the head with structure generation

@@cubicmetre The piston head needs to be deleted / replaced by structure generation (or anything else like explosions) while in state of block36. Than the base doesn't break off.

Could you turn off the farm from the overworld side by adding a filter to the hoppers that detect a named item which you can send through the portal? Or do the withers destroy the items sent to the end?

While the farm is running the player must be present as there is no way to automatically perma load chunks in the end dimension. So the best option to turn the farm off is to simply have the player flip a switch.

Disclaimer to whoever tries out this wither cage: the lightning rod attracts lightning in the overworld and causes the slime blocks to be broken and the wither to escape. I've had some headaches when using this.

The lightning rods should not attract lightning provided there is a solid block between the lightning rod and the sky.

@@cubicmetre yeah that was my problem XD, couldn't figure out why my slime blocks were breaking because I was tick warping... Turns out it was lightning strikes. I thought somehow my system hit the wither too quickly randomly.

does the wireless redstone thing need to be chunk alligned? and could you build this thing on a random seed, to show that anybody can build this because not every endportal is in the most ideal position to be chunk alligned

Hello, I saw this video and then tried to make wither tunnel bore using this movable cage but it didn't work after a bit of research I found out that it is probably because high blast resistance of most blocks underground so I'm not sure what we can use it for. If you have some idea please tell me I'm trying to make something impressive with redstone but I have no idea what should I do. Thanks

A wither tunnel bore would likely rely on the wither breaking the blocks with it's area attack rather than trying to blow up the blocks with the skulls.

How do the zombies not fall through, I.e. how did you get them aligned like that with the minecarts diagonal balancing on the edge of the stonecutters?

They are aligned to trapdoors such that a small part of the minecart is resting on the corner of the stonecutters.
