Wavetechs main storage has been up and running for a few months now and I've always wanted to do a video going through the nitty gritty of how to maintain such an important piece of infrastructure. It just so happens that Wavetechs main storage encountered a catastrophic failure so let's go inside and discover what went wrong and how to prevent it in the future.

I love how you figuring out where the bug is is pretty much the same as a programmer finding a bug- the dummy item is the error or stack trace, then you set it to stop at specific lines, and finally you see what's wrong and fix it.

Hi Cubic! I think you may have missed something. At 13:30 it seems you only checked the "19 items" label from the item scanner mod in order to assess the correctness of the filters, and you only found one with 18 items. However, some filters showed "19 items, 2 types" meaning that there are 18 dummy items and 1 incorrect item. You might have missed those

@@Lcfp I do get your point but if that was an issue he would have found it during test run. I think maybe u see in a hopper which he opened and showed the sticks were in a 16 stack and 3 separate maybe those 3 separate sticks were different items in those hoppers because they would still emit the same signal strength

I also use this mechanism in the RGB beacon to initiate a full system reset to ensure the beacon always fixes itself and begins the sequence normally.

can you make a video on the basic everyday requirements of a storage system some things i have in mind are manual shulker box loader in wall, floor, ceiling for litematica and stuff. 1 wide is preferable since you can load multiple types at the same time. random shulker box display/ it would most likely clean off any shulker monster : ) simple one item type mass crafter or the all item type.etc. this would help a lot of people who are trying to make a storage system.

Great work man! But I believe that your previous item sorter is more resistant to unloading so if any one sees this the previous storage system is actually better for single player as for multiplayer it’s really your choice

Would you share the design and function of the fail safe unloading detector. Other storage systems break only when something similar happens and this feature would be very helpful

It's a design by Dark. See moss farm v3 or Scorpio's self-restarting chunk loader chain. Detects a chunk reload to trigger the lock mechanism.

It would be so much better if u had free cam from tweakeroo and pressed the "i" key on the chests. You would be able to see everything within the chests.

This only really works in single player because on a server you don't have perfect knowledge of what items are in every chest. Plus it's much easier to find faults by honing in on them from afar with the inventory counts.

@@cubicmetre There is a mod called Plusls-Carpet-Addition that adds a protocol for the synchronization of inventories, be it mobs, chests or even players! And this has the range of your render distance

if you're undertaking mammoth tasks that involve a lot of material returns of varied items, there'd be some benefits. mostly it'd mean your sorting operations get done a lot faster returning excess items to main storage, since specific-use farms could handle sorting on site.

If you mean differences with regards to the reliability issues shown in the video it'd probably be better bc you'd have sole control over when the system gets loaded and unloaded, no automatic server restarts

Honestly, the tradeoff of having to fix the storage when things break is still outweighed by how rapidly it burns through chest monster. The way I like to imagine it is that the storage takes the task of needing to sort every single item manually to doing 99% of items automatically and extremely quickly while every now and then I have to go into the storage and sort a very small fraction of items manually.

Parallel unloading can dramatically speed up item sorting with diverse item types. Think about how many item types you would use in a project when you bring back leftovers to storage and the mess of items stuffed into boxes. Cubic has several videos on the subject, but the set-based version from Boyenn et al. is better suited to most players' needs. Cubic's take on a parallel unloading array is compatible with double-speed loaders and can be twice as fast, but it is significantly more complex. Other solutions to speed up sorting operations would be a dolphin or hoppercart sorting. Dolphins are not suited to large-scale storage systems. Lummie Thief has been working on a cart-based MIS for 1.19, but it needs to be fleshed out further before it can be turned into a complete storage system.

Whos inventory scanner is at 01:49? This would help me out with mine. I have rapscallions sorter with 132 sorting slices. There are more than a thousand containers that shouldn't have anything in them I have to go through everytime it breaks. This would help me out so much with not only those but with the filter hoppers too! Edit: Just found out it's an option in tweakfork which isn't working in 1.19.2 :/

Please don't try to build this storage, it is meant for a large server full of players working together to make technical builds. Otherwise it is extremely painful to build and use for a single player

@@cubicmetre OMG u answerd thanks man okay we found another one its the old sci craft storage room but adjusted from another youtuber and it can hold 200 bulk items and 800 normal with a 12x speed unloader soo i think thats pretty good cuz we want every item in our storag and thats like almost evrything and its fast so i think thats pretty good but thank u very much for helping me i love ur technical videos and il build it in the end cuz its easaly excesible and wel make a mechanism so u cant leave the end untill its finished sorting cue we dont want to break the storage system if we accidently unload the storage but love ur vids....

could it be because of unloaded chunks? edit- i mean can the system breaks due to halfly loading chunks? for eg if the system is 2x2 chunks and i was far away and loading only 1 of the chunks so can it break the system?

Individual redstone components work fine when unloaded and loaded. However the interactions between components result in things breaking when they are unloaded and loaded. The problem is that to make machines that do stuff we rely on redstone signals moving from one place to another and converging to produce a desired sequence. If chunks are unloaded and loaded these interactions get scrambled and things break.

@@cubicmetre i know,but i used to build all critical things one chunk(or it should be at least tileable in chunks), so the complete machine gets unloadet at ones and nothing breaks. since i do this i never had any Problem with broken things in my storage... (4x hopperspeed per item type is enough for us, not like this monster storage tech Thing. Im layzy and dont want to fix anything. I like Overengineerd things, so i put way to much time in it , but most at least nothing Breaks easily.) I try to Design my stuff so it works, and no maintinance should be needet, also when it Crashes while it is running. (But there is Always Something that breaks... But Mostly beause we use paper as server Software, that does handle some things different in some cases. )

It's by Dark, and there's no more to the detector than the visible parts . Frost Walker freezes water on chunk reload. An alternative version is in the TMC Archive. You can find it in Dark's moss farm v3 to see it in action.
