When a mechanic pays snap on prices for its tools. Mere paupers dont deserve teir tools on their vehicles.

By the looks of some of these cars, I think all mechanics should have their vaccinations up to date.

Kalifornia here. Everything is spotless underneath including junkyard cars. Trade offs are sky high taxes and living with the nut jobs.

Exactly... that's why I always clean and wash my car before I have it serviced. It makes the job nicer for the mechanic and chances are they're going to treat the car better.

Thats clean for here, I've worked on much worse, some trucks I've worked on I had to weld a crossmember in between the frame and I had to get creative with 1 old chevy that the fuel tank strap mounts were gone, yeah that trucks clean if it was here lmao.

Lol what!? That thing is not that bad. I guess it's cause where I live around the great lakes but my trucks get driven until the frame breaks. Usually it's in the rear and the frame drives up into the bed of the truck 90 percent of the time or a spring shackle. That frame still had a lot if mikes left on it, especially in Florida

I brought an 89 S-10 to Maryland and got inspected. I owned it since 95. It failed for a number of things, the brake lines being rusty was one. But also a repair I had paid a shop years before to do, and they used compression fittings. (That's illegal) I ordered pre-bent stainless lines from Summit racing, but still had some issues. I had to cut one and attempted to re-flare. I attempted with soft metal flare kit. Then I discovered I need expensive tool to make the only flare I would ever make with it, so I took it to a shop. Just the brake line. I know they were thinking "How cute, wonder when he be back". I did end up towing it to them for a number of things after I reached the end of my knowledge. (and my wife's patience the thing being on jack stands in garage) I replaced all suspension and steering parts except leaf springs and steering gear box, so it couldn't be driven without a pro alignment. Would I do it again knowing how involved it was all going to get? NO!

@@keithmarlowe5569 Oh my yes, flaring stainless is something I can live happily never having to do again. Once was enough. I like this new what is it, nickle-copper stuff you can buy at the jobbers? Bends easily, cuts and flares very easily. Just last year I replaced the tranny lines on my little Dodge truck - even though there was an option for stainless, I know my issues with it and many others have voiced their opinions against. It's great stuff, and I'm sure it has it's place. But I don't/won't recommend it to anyone.

There was a car that often did break in half from corrosion. It was known as Vega. It also featured all aluminum block with 'Cast Iron Plated' pistons that also didn't work out real well for longevity.

I don’t understand why people put up with the destruction of their cars from all the salt dumped on the roads. Not to mention what all that salt and deicer is doing to the environment. It all ends up in the rivers and streams.

Fred Flintstone's car would be better because it's made out of wood and therefore won't rust like the rotted ones in this video

@@peterfallert4994 I too think we should quit the salt and either stay home or put on tire chains during and after ice storms. At least get in the habit of driving at speeds to suit the conditions even if it means getting up 1/2 hour earlier and being late for supper many winter days. I used studded tires for many years. Several brands have winter tires that do well when used with some caution.

Just imagine how many other poor life choices they are making every day.

It's also amazing how a customer can get shocked at the sky high cost of repair that's the result of putting off the car's need for service for too long. The problem was allowed to fester, which only made things worse.

Once upon a time I had a 67 Ford Galaxie Clingon battle cruiser. Really surprised no one died as a result of driving that trap. Anywhats...I was in the Army at the time and far from post when the wheel cylinder blew, draining all the fluid. It was rather hairy getting the thing stopped. After a few frantic repair attempts, I decided 3 brakes were better than none and smashed shut the brake line.

When I moved to from Chicago to AZ back in 82, the Goodyear store I worked in didn't even have a torch. I poked around the back room for a couple of weeks before I asked about that. "Welcome to Arizona!" was the reply. Worked there 7 years and never needed it. I was also told not to leave tools out in the sun- instant 3rd degree burns! Love your videos, too!

Been down here 9 years in highlands county coming from Cleveland Ohio and loving being able to 1 remove parts 2 do most alignments and 3 barely replace any brake lines. Right now I'm the only one who makes brake lines the others just get the segments and unions.

Used to have it here. Too much 'work', too much government intrusion and too many cars red-flagged. Lots of complaints from junker drivers. So, the program was scrapped, not the cars. don't get me started on the heavy trucks ......

@@pete84101 Actually, I don't get bothered that much, usually a question here and there, I'll be out working and the neighborhood kids walk up and want to learn, and once in a great while someone can't afford the work or they don't trust a shop, they'll ask me, and really if they really can't afford something and it's not a big deal, I don't charge anything, if they offer to pay or what have you, then yeah it's usually more than a beer and pizza lol. Been working on vehicles for 34 years, and I just charge a flat rate, that's fair. I don't charge family however my Brother in-law asked me to do his pads and rotors, and I said sure, now you see I'm partially disabled now and I don't move as fast as I used to do that's the reason I charge a flat rate because most jobs like full brakes and not the fluid which his was okay, took me a lot longer than normal and wouldn't be fair to go by hour. So lol when done he was like how much do I owe you? I said nothing, that's what family is for. He wouldn't take no for an answer so I said okay, $150.00. He said what, $150.00!? I said well, if I were at a shop and most places will charge between $80 - $100 an hour for Master Mechanic, and it took me about 3 hours so, $150 is a nice fair flat charge compared to say $300. He said okay $150 it is. I have severe pain in my legs and it's hard for me to move and sit or pick up everything, I should get or make a cart lol, anyway. But I did do some work for an elder man ret. on SS fixed income came to me for help, I charged him nothing for the work of replacing his water pump and thermostat. Thanks for the reply.

Better stay away from Alabama cars, too. Windshield, nah, door, nah, etc. True story - a guy with a Porsche 917 race car wanted to drive it in Europe but he could not get tags for it. He had someone in Alabama get him a tag. The car apparently has a Texas tag on it now.

I live in Michigan where we salt the roads like our lives depended on it. We don't have any inspections before registering a vehicle. I see cars that are definitely not road worthy driving every day. I make sure to wash my car multiple times a week (I pay $30.00 a month for 1 car wash a day) during winter to make sure the salt doesn't destroy my car too fast.

I haven’t actually seen many cars cause accidents due to road worthiness. If you want to buy a new car every three years go for it.

@@loganthesaint Take a vacation to West Virginia :rolleyes: . The ones that have been in the state *multiple years* but still have Ohio plates are usually the worst - no yearly inspection and, oft times, no insurance.

We used to have a big issue with "good ol' boy" mechanics who'd slap an inspection sticker on just about anything that wasn't actively on fire. I remember being a little **** in the '70s, riding along when Mom took a beater (or as we called it, the family car) Ford Maverick in for its yearly inspection. Guy said he just couldn't inspect it because of the gaping holes that were rusted through the body. Mom was pretty upset, and asked what she was supposed to do. Said something about how she was used to walking, having grown up poor, but it would be hard to carry a week's worth of groceries home from the grocery store whilst trying to keep me from getting run over (I had more sense than that, she was just upset). So the guy walked off, came back, and handed her a roll of duct tape. He told her to drive the car out of his sight and cover the holes with tape, then bring it back. She used most of the roll, LMAO - and he inspected the car for her. A couple years later, she went back to the same guy to get her "new" car inspected. It wasn't all rusted out - was an early '70s Cutlass Supreme that was shiny as could be. Instead of putting it on the lift and pulling a couple wheels to inspect the brakes, he told her to put the emergency/parking brake on, stick it in drive, and floor it. He... was standing in front of the car at the time! He had to tell her two or three times, because she didn't think it was a good idea. Between her right foot, the 455 under the hood, and his stupidity... he almost ended up with two crushed legs. However, inspection... PASSED. There is considerably less of that these days - but it still happens.

It's a vehicle from out of state, he's in FL and there has been a massive influx of people from up north coming here and bringing their completely rotted out junk vehicles and just driving them around or selling them to some sucker for dirt cheap and because we don't have vehicle inspections here they can get away with it untill the vehicle physically falls apart.

I bought an old Crown Vic that had literally spent 20 years within a block of the Gulf of Mexico, almost no rust. The Ford Explorer that spent half its time in Florida and half in Virginia, rusted out like crazy.

Never, well actually, after your vehicle fails state inspection is it criminal to drive it without repairing it first and passing state inspection. To have a driver's license in the USA, you're not required to be mechanically knowledgeable about vehicles nor are you required to do pre-trip inspection to deem it mechanically sound before driving.

USA is a 4th world country, cause third world countries has inspections and free health care.

Many (but not all) states have annual inspections and yes, these cars would have failed those as well.

Many of the US owners have no idea how far gone their vehicles actually are, and aren't worried about what they don't know. But most US accidents are driver-caused, not vehicle-caused, which is amazing given the many times more vehicles in the US than in the UK.

only in some states.. but states like Florida; there is no yearly inspection. Florida used to have a yearly inspection for vehicles but scrapped it after too many issues. However, in states like Texas (my state,) we have a yearly inspection except for vehicles 1-3 years old which have one every 3 years. states are realonsible for emissions tests.. not the federal government. i heard california is the worst. people say california milks their drivers for every dime they can get.

No there's nothing like that in the state where I live (Iowa). I'm not sure about other states.

the vast majority of people don't look under their car/truck. if it starts, moves, and stops, it's good.

That frame could have bent and fallen partially on him. Dangerous to be playing under there not much weight is needed for that entire truck to bend

There are also generic "COTS" compression splices one can buy and use as well in place of that block.

I can't even imagine doing some of the work pros do, even if I was one, had all the tools, the shop, the training, the experience, the hot female cashier who always smiled at me as she slowly walked by in high heels...SORRY!!...mind wandered...:)
