This will come in handy this winter when I plan to redo the transom and floor on my 15” nordeck windscreen boat. Thank you for sharing your learning experience. /Mikkel Denmark

The transom looks awesome man, and I've learned something new with the paddle-pop stick method haha! Where you were talking about cutting the aft/rear of the floor so it suits the two braces that will come off the transom - maybe you could glass in a box between the two supports that's from the floor height down to the inside of the hull. Would just have to cut the floor to the outside measurement of the supports, then as far/long as you want. It could serve as a splash well to catch water off the floor, throw a bilge pump in there, or even use it as a livewell/storage.

Been doing boat repair for 15 years, never done transom templating that way and I love it! I’m sure going to try that next time. I typically use “door skin”. You learn something new everyday! Great video. Why plywood instead of composite like coosa for transom?

Hey man, only done a few myself but have been told to leave a small 1/4 gap so you dont have to sand the curve and the resin helps seal the edges of the new transom boards from water intrusion. May have been knowledge from the days before marine ply, dunno

The paddlepop trick is a DIY contour gauge! I paid around $100 for a 6 inch contour gauge, so you're doing pretty well with paddlepop sticks for next to nothing!

Hi Matt. Fantastic videos that have been so helpful for me restoring. similar boat. Quick question if that's ok. I've noticed that when nearly all of the existing floor and stringers are removed the bottom of the boat seems very flimsy. I'm worried that I'm either going to stick my foot through it or cause it to crack. Should I be putting a layer of fibreglass down first to strengthen or do you think adding the new stringers should be enough? Thanks Matt

Brilliant work Matt. How much do you want for the paddlepop sticks. My daughter makes stuff out of them.

Love your stuff. I would have suggested a 1/4 round over bit with a router for that back transom board.

You should chuck a big tiller motor on it

Hey mate. Hope you are well. Long time since an update. How’s the project boat coming along?

How come you don't seal and paint the floor of the boat before you put everything else in so everything is coated instead of painting around stuff?

How thin will the transom be if you are putting in say a 30 HP motor?

So bad time to bring it up ..if you were to buy some skewers from the grocery store like for kebabs… you can place them in the individual corregations in the cardboard and basically you have a contour gauge as big as you need for the whole width of your hull bottom

Hello, I am thinking to have a small sauna in the after kabin of my glass fiber sailboat? May this project go well if I investering in a proper isolation? Or it that just an insane idea?
@MattKellyFishing3 жыл бұрын
A fibreglass cabin is already a sauna? Haha. Honestly, unless you've got a very very large boat, it's not something I'd be investing too much time and money into.
@silvanomoreira54073 жыл бұрын
@@MattKellyFishing I dont think much about space. Its just a sauna for 2 personer. I wonder more about demage in the hull due heating. How problematic can that be?
@MattKellyFishing3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I have no idea. Would probably be a good idea to talk to a shipright or someone with proper boat building experience.

do yourself a favor and double up that stringer. laminate two layers of the ply together then lay it in... also you want your transom 1.5" thick, thats the standard.

Hey mate, if you like Andy's channel, you will also like Sail Life. I assume you already watch them too, but just thought I'd put it out there. Are there any other you watch a lot of?

Use a scribing tool to get the contour angles. The little sticks is too much unnecessary work
