This is a song everyone wants to voice. I appreciate all the versions I've heard but the original version I heard on an AM radio is a truly magical event to me

A white woman singing a song about racial oppression to a white audience. Don't get me wrong. It needs to be done, but the optics could not be worse. The 80s were unaware of so many things looking back.

absolutely, I have always loved Cyndi Lauper but a chainsaw going through my skull would have sounded better. Very glad that the bass guitarist showed her how it's meant to be done :)
