Matt, Matt Matt, The shoe retainer springs get compressed with the round end of your brake pliers. Really it does quite a few jobs for brakes. I use snap ring pliers for getting those C clips off of brake parts when they have holes in the ends like those did then there is no reason to squeeze the rings back together once back on. Just a few hints to help the next Toyota wrench doing brakes. THE NEW SEALS ARE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE DUST SHROUD!!!! Enjoying the rebuild of your Dad's rig. My daughter stole my 46 Willys Station Wagon (the original SUV) and I ride out to Colorado every year to do it's annual maintenance. The past two years my grand sons have been helping and learning the old trucks systems. Having my own kids in the shop for motorcycles or our cars and trucks was always a joy as they learned. With Respect, You are in my prayers. You too Josh Hoka Hey

Thank you. I was pointing at them when they were in the shot as they talked about a tool Matt was saying that he needs to get one. Young folks, what can you do. 🤷 In their defense, I had brake pliers for some time before I noticed that end. The best to you and yours.

To everyone saying the tool on the end is for removing the spring retataner, no it is to install springs on the older cars that had springs that went to the pivot below the wheel cylinder... Oh and before you put the drums back on you might want to switch the shoes the longer ones go to the front.

Disk breaks are so much easier to replace. The first set of breaks I ever worked on were for a 1957 Ford 2 door Ranch wagon. I installed all new shoes front and back rebuilt the break cylinders front and back. It had a 4 speed standard transmission a 351 Cleveland engine and a positraction rear end.The ranch wagon was fords version of the nomad. I really hated the hood design looks wise it was fine but instead of having the hinges being on the back of the hood and to open it you just lifted it up from the front. The hinges on the ranch wagon were at the front and it tilted forward so any time you needed to working on anything on the front of the engine it was easier to remove the hood to get to everything on the front.

I like the in-depth cleaning of the inner front fender rubber splash shields. What is the best way to dry them? Do you use a hair dryer on warm for 15 mins per side for a total of 30 minutes or pat dry with cotton towels? Never back and forth motions! Do you put a dressing and if so, what brand is best? What would be the best storage temp? Should they get a UV treatment? I'm joking of course. Your dad is lucky to have a son like you. With the care you are taking with his truck I can see your love for your family. I wish I would have done something like this for my dad before he passed. You don't think your family members will ever die when you're young. It's later on in life that you have regrets and wish you would have. P.S. you have a great beautiful wife.👍

@selders591 • 2 min ago Good day guys, my husband watches your videos and loves what you do. He has been in construction all his life since he got out of the military. His unit was in Iran for 2 years during the hostage situation in '79 and '80. He is a disabled veteran now and we just had to put his service dog Jasmine that he had for 15 years. A week after that he suffered a stroke. I would love if someone could locate a Jeep J10 pickup for him as he has said that is one of his favorite trucks. He has always built and raced show cars and bikes and 4x4 trucks. But now unfortunately his body won't let him do the things he use to love. I would love any help in surprising him with something.
