Daniel Smith Watercolor Sticks Demo: Join me as I paint a granite rock outcrop with Daniel Smith Watercolor Sticks. I share my method for activating the sticks as well as color discussion about the hues used. These watercolor sticks offer the convenience and portability of half pans in a handy stick form. Each watercolor stick is packed with pure pigment and is highly reactive with water, producing vibrant, strong, rich and creamy colors when wet. Be sure to leave a comment on what your thoughts are on these watercolor sticks!

Thank you for such an informative video . I love painting rocks and have been wondering how the watercolour sticks are used - so it was right up my street. Your finished painting is really beautiful.

Thank you for this. You've been so helpful in sharing information about the watercolor sticks, which I think I need. HA. But more importantly, you've reminded me how much I enjoy painting rocks to - so I'm abandoning my thought of getting primary colors (which I already have in almost every palette) and instead considering some of the more nature tones.

Thank you Nadine, these colors really help to paint the rocks, to paint a section and then let it dry to see how the granulation settles is the best way to go about it, so thankful you enjoyed the video

I just discovered your channel yesterday and am fascinated by both your art and your information and instructions as you make it. I think learning how you use these Daniel Smith watercolor sticks will be so useful to me. But your explanation of your use of the primatek colors in your rocks is even more fascinating to me, as I am especially drawn to painting rocks. It never occurred to me how useful this type of paint would be in doing that. I don't think it's available yet in stick form, but have you tried Red Fuchsite Genuine with your rocks? I'm thinking that mixed with one of the Hematite Genuine colors it might be interesting. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your talents.

How do you grind the sticks to make a paste? Are you approximating the consistency of paint straight from the tube? Thank you.
@MarkBegbie
@MarkBegbie Жыл бұрын
@@susanshisler7074 I use a ceramic dish and drop some water in. Then grind the stick slowly in the water, similar as you would with a chinese ink stick. I add more water as necessary until I have it a bit wetter than straight from the tube.

Hi Buffy. I watch the DS lives and I confused about the sticks . I thought John said the sticks have the least water but today he said the pans do. Do you know ? I thought he said the sticks have a higher pigment load.

Good afternoon Sue 😀 here’s an excerpt of my notes from the live, From highest pigment load/least water to most: powder, pans, sticks, tubes.

@@watercolorpour ok for some reason I thought the sticks would have more pigment because John said you get more bang for your buck .
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour 2 жыл бұрын
@@suel4269 hmmm not sure but I see more bang for the buck referencing price. The sticks are all one standard price compared to the tubes which are priced based on their series number.
