So many good players look like they have an effortless golf swing...They don't just hit their driver straight or strike their irons, they hit the golf ball super long too.
In this weeks golf Lesson Danny Maude reveals what they all have in common as they start their downswing and gives you a super simple golf drill that will help you feel exactly what to do to start your downswing correctly.
The drill will help you FEEL how to generate some serious clubbed speed while at the same time swing the club on the right line for straighter drivers and straighter iron shots.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZfaq and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Danny, thank you so much for sharing your golf knowledge with us. I cannot tell you how much money I have spent on golf lessons over the years (thousands). No one has explained how important working your feet and legs is to hitting the ball further. I hit one of my longest drives ever last week because of you. I expect even more distance after practicing more. Screwing and unscrewing the lid is just such an easy concept. You are a fantastic teacher! Thank you.

Unscrewing the lid with your feet is pure gold and I finally get the feeling of gripping the ground with your feet. It shallowed the club without manipulation with a squat/rotate move (was way over the top). Trail heel no longer coming up as a bonus. If I could by you a drink I would. Cheers.

Over the past year with a number of months where we have been unable to play, we have had the opportunity to learn from these videos to really study and understand the golf swing. If golfers have been doing this then I feel we should see great improvements as we get back to the course. Personally I have a far greater understanding, particularly regarding impact, and todays video reinforces much of the teaching that Danny has given us over time. Lets take this to the course on the 29th and have a great time.

I love these "feel" video lessons. Sometimes it's so hard to watch swings and try not to get too mechanical in trying to copy what's going on. I'm normally asking myself, the motion looks so good but how does it feel to know if you've got it right? Danny you are the best at giving us the correct feel to work on the swing. Brilliant!

I'm a 4.1 index currently and I really enjoy your videos. Really simple ideas, well explained - and for me 'feel' is important. Telling people what they should be doing is easy but helping them understand what it should feel like is so much more than that. I had a quick 9 whilst walking the dog late this afternoon (I'm in Scotland) and focusing on nothing other than a footwork feeling of 'unscrewing the jar' really helped me in terms of distance, consistency and accuracy, especially off the tee. I did hit a few comedy hooks with my irons in fairness but i found a balance very quickly and in the main I hit really nice controlled shots. You made my day! Thanks Danny and keep up the great work!

I finally found the answer to what initiates the golf swing in this video - the legs; left leg for right hand golfers. I am about half way there on this swing pattern. 1/2 of my Driver hits are slices, and half are down the middle....a work in progress. It is like learning a new swing all over again. You are a great teacher and I am subscribed to your channel. If something goes bad on the course, I go to your videos for corrections. Thank you, Danny.

Danny's holistic approach to swing analysis provides boatloads of info for any level golfer. Luckily, his communication skills are unequaled (IMHO). This lesson is such a great example of this. Unlocking a true understanding of the swing is a personal thing based on each person's learning type and Danny conveys these subtleties like nobody else. When I recall the best ball striking I've ever had, I was in the groove Danny describes in this lesson.

I have always struggled with making solid contact and unable to take a divot, this lid feeling really hit the mark with me. What is helping me is to start my backswing by "feeling" that I am "screwing" the lid with my feet, this is allowing me to make a good hip turn, from there it is easier for me to start the downswing by "feeling" that I am unscrewing the lid with my feet. I am now making better contact and starting to take small divots. Thank you so much for this video

I saw a couple of great videos illustrating this Danny. One was about Speed Boats and Water Skiers and how when the Boat turns 'round the corner' the Skier doesn't follow the boat thereby creating no speed, but instead the Skier goes straight ahead or even 'away' from the boat and creates effortless speed, so much so that they can even overtake the Boat. The 2nd video was of Freddie Couples (Beautiful Swing) talking about how he creates 'Effortless power' in much the same way. Great video once again Danny. Thanks

Hi Danny, always a pleasure to follow your channel! I went to the range just after this video seeing that this aspect was the one issue missing in my overall swing-routine and yielded immediate results. The drill creates the sort of delayed / lazy swing generally associated with very low handicappers and will hopefully now have an impact on mine as well! Your video about green-side chipping was also a winner is it eliminated significant inconsistency in my short game. Best wishes from the best city in the word, Cape Town!

Brilliant video, Danny! The last few weeks, working on various stages of the golf swing, have been amazing! The past week, I have concentrated on making a good turn (better, maybe) and by just improving that, without all the other great additions you have added, most of my iron and rescue club shots now have a nice draw to them. At the moment, it feels a little reckless and unnatural, but is a definite improvement. Cheers for all the effort you put into helping us attempt to be better golfers. Used to push or slice my driver by swinging over the top rather than using a swing from inside out; Used to be inconsistent with my irons by swaying and hitting behind the ball and now lead with the lower body by putting pressure on my front foot before completing my backswing (your comment to swing like Happy Gilmore and like throwing a frisbee helped to rotate and keep my front wrist bowed-which stopped slicing and pushing shots); Used to hook my hybrids -although I was setting up square ; when I swung my club half way down I saw my club face very closed at impact so I learned to open my hybrids face at setup resulting in a square hit at impact.

This "unscrew the lid with the lower body..." swing thought really helped and immediately it caused some slight draws from my stubbornly open club face. Thanks a lot Danny. I have a hard time to square my left wrist from the top of my back swing when trying to flatten the swing, and tend to forget to drive from the lower body. Look forward to more good swing thoughts like this unscrew the lid idea.

Hi Danny. I'm just echoing what others have said about your "unscrewing a lid" analogy... a simple but brilliant tip for weight transfer which also helps bring the club back down on line. Thank you as always

Thank you for another excellent video & very valuable practice plan. Danny's previous videos are related to this one. You simply have to ''TWIST & SHOUT'' Possibly add a little jump. Looks easy but several practice sessions would really help.

Thanks! The unscrewing the lid analogy really made sense. I've felt that "correct" feeling of legs first, then arms before, but couldn't replicate. Right now, I'm fighting two vertebrae that have slid out of place in my lower back and have to use mostly arms, but once I get those vertebrae back in line, I'll know how to have the hips fire first.

Wow what a video I have heard the feat and legs are very important in the swing but never have I heard an explanation like yours with the analogy of the feat opening a jar it is jarring the immediate response I got from that tip and have yet to hear anyone use that phrase so many thanks also this is not the only video that's helped me that you've played but this one has opened my eyes more than any other video I have ever watched so thanks again.

Your instructions provide an ultra clear simplified description and hand-on application of the golf swing mechanics that I haven't found elsewhere from countless professional vids, mags and golf books. You given me new found inspiration to raise my play to the next level. Thank you Danny! PS please re-post link to Practice Plan ....it doesn't appear on KZfaq stateside.

“Unscrew the lid”. Love it. Just one question. I’m working with the heavy ball (SKLZ) club to lag from the feet up and drop the hands low and close towards impact. But when I also add external shoulder rotation...doesn’t that bring the hands high?
