I thought it was unsafe to do lane splitting at speeds above 30-35mph. But I guess it’s the trucks fault for not seeing you coming up from behind his blind spot at 45-50 mph.
@70TruckGuy
@70TruckGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Lane-splitting is supposed to be done ONLY in the slowest of traffic, as a way to ease congestion by allowing motorcycles to remove themselves from the slowdown, thus permitting more cars & trucks to get through. A motorcycle should NEVER being going more than 10-15 mph faster than traffic, and I believe the DMV says a a maximum of 25 mph. And one of the reasons is reaction time - the faster the bike is going, the less reaction time there is for both the rider AND other drivers. One split second in someone's blind spot, and the situation changes from right-of-way to arguing with physics. A trained and careful biker will be fully aware of what is around him/her and will be ready to go at any second if one of the drivers surrounding the bike are not aware of the bike's presence. And that biker would also understand that in any argument with physics, the bike and biker will ALWAYS lose.

@@abelis644 I think you're talking about two things. Both drivers and riders have responsibilities, and they aren't the same. Yes, drivers have to be somewhat aware that people can come from the rear. This is also true for bicycles, you know. For example, if you're stopped at a light in your car, a cyclist might come up on your right. If you turn into them, you could be found at fault, depending on the circumstances. ... All of that being said, the rider was clearly acting like a fool. The slot next to the truck was far too narrow to attempt, and any sane rider would have slowed down before getting anywhere close to it.

ya im scratching my head on this one as well. How is that box truck at fault when hes lane splitting in the incorrect lane? Pretty sure this is in California and the vehicle code indicates you can only lane split between the carpool lane and number 1 lane, along with the number 1 lane and number 2 lane. Also has to be under 40 mph when lane splitting so this will be a good case if it comes to that.

I ride motorcycles and there is a specific rule that states when you are even supposed to lane split and that’s when speeds are less than about 10 MPH. The school I went to taught us that specifically and said you take the risk of doing it but if you must, do it safely and realize the size of your bike. He was riding a tall wide adventurer dirt bike with wide handlebars. He knew he shouldn’t haven’t even tried that at that speed.

1:56 "This was clearly not my fault, this driver cut me off and slammed on his brakes for no reason at all." Hardly "no reason at all," the reason was you were clearly riding the left lane despite faster traffic behind you, which prompted the other driver to get around you once he could. Of course, you didn't like such a blatant challenge to your ownership of the left lane, so you responded by turning your high beams on and blinding him instead. Plus, I would hardly call what he did "slamming" on his brakes, he was just gradually slowing down to get you to cut the shit with your high beams. You decide not to stop in what I would assume was an attempt to call his bluff, and he didn't fold, so you drove straight into him. So essentially, you hogged the left lane until he had enough, then decided to play chicken with him until you collided with his truck. Now, I wouldn't say the other driver was entirely blameless in his behavior here; he certainly seemed equally as stubborn as you are. That said, you created this situation, and you're not fooling anyone by crying victim.

Nothing you said was wrong, but my advice is always this: If you have the opportunity to avoid escalation, try to do so. The truck driver purposely slowed down quickly in order to escalate the situation beyond the hostility it already had. I always try to make the assumption that you never know what state of mind someone else is in. This could've easily ended with the cammer whipping out a glock and blasting away because he's at the end of a long bad day. You just never know.
@littlesister3477
@littlesister3477 2 жыл бұрын
I just rewatched this and I think I disagree with you. He's was in the left lane true but if you watch it from the beginning he was clearly driving much faster and passing vehicles in the lane to the right. If your in the left lane passing slower traffic on the right and even if your doing it at the exact speed limit. He was using the lane for passing so it was used correctly. Now I don't think the guy cut him off that bad to begin with , not enough to be laying on the high beam like that. Now as far as the pick up. If the hi beam was blinding him you don't break check him , you simply flip the little lever on the bottom of the rearview mirror and woolah problem solved you keep going and that's it. Break checking many times doesn't just teach the guy behind you a lesson it very often winds up including many innocent ppl who had nothing to do with your immature baby games. The guy freaks, slams on his breaks, goes into a few other cars .some kids get hurt or killed. For what? so you can act just as bad as the guy flashing you from behind . 2 wrongs don't make a right. Ever. Ya know 95 % of drivers have no idea that the little lever exists on the bottom of the Rear view mirror let alone what it's for. Drive safe everyone. Dont give into the rager it never turns out well and alot of times makes the rager look like the idiot also. Try it someday it's real handy.

Something tells me you have never ridden in your life pls don’t talk about laws and weather they should be illegal or not if you never experience both sides lane splitting if done right is safer for the motorcyclist it also helps reduce traffic congestion which is a big issue. Have you ever been rear ended before? It’s one of the most common crashes in ur car it might not be a big deal but on a bike it can mean death. Traffic congestion is reduced by lane splitting as well. People hate lane splitting because of there own self interest the bikes scare them as they pass or they are jealous that traffic isn’t a issue for them. Fun fact for you lane splitting is legal in EVERY country other than the us and because of that you see far far more bikes on the road which again helps with traffic

@@taylorshockley2210 I've ridden everything other than big rigs. I've wiped a bike into the tree's when a pickup passed on a blind corner. Majority of bikers lane splitting do it illegally. Majority are bikers whom are not 'good enough' to weave through traffic. Majority are bikers whom will blame anything/everyone else for the lack of skill. That lil "something" that has projecting I've never ridden before or dont ride now...is lying to you and laughing because you blindly-believed to suit your narrative. Dont give no bs about being rear-ended being a reason to go full speed/over the speed limit/drive on the shoulder between vehicles.... *2nd driver:* Yes, it is actually your fault. The guy that cut you off without a signal is a dink, but you completely failed to remain calm, and instead you immediately turned your brights on escalating the situation. You then completely failed to brake or create any sort of distance and let the other guy softly brake check you. You had more than enough time to react. That entire situation could have been avoided if you kept your nerve, applied the brakes and waited the 30 seconds for that impatient loser to be on his way. Your insurance premiums are going up because you're driving with your emotions, not your brain. Chill out and let the bad drivers learn on their own, it's not your responsibility to police or teach negligent drivers. I hate bad drivers as much as the next guy, but being a good, responsible driver means that you never let your anger or frustration cloud your judgement. Driving isn't a pissing match between who's right or wrong. It's about swallowing your pride and getting home safely.

The guy that rear-ended the truck was obstructing traffic as there was clearly no one in front of him and he flashed his brights which are both ticketable offenses in Texas. If there are 2 or more lanes people need to stop driving in the passing lane, regardless of your speed. Most States/Cites have laws regarding this even if there is no posted signs saying so.

14:50 - I honestly dont think lane splitting should be legal. Its definitely not a safe practice and being a defensive driver myself is not something I would ever do (even if legal) because you never know what move someone else will make.

Lane splitting is the safest way for motorcycles to navigate traffic. You would much rather sideswipe someone than get rear ended at 60+ mph. Riding a motorcycle is far different from driving a car and the rules and laws of the road are 99% catered to cars instead of much more capable motorcycles. The only reason this guy hit the truck is because the truck didnt maintain his position in the lane. He was towards the left then as the biker was coming up he drifted right.

20:20 I don't think you quite understand what the effects of that move are on your fellow road users. People are just driving their car and all of a sudden some motorbike comes zooming in between.You're going way faster than anyone else on that road. It's startling to have it happen to you, because it's unexpected. Heck, it can be startling to have a car going way faster, so a speeding biker who is moving between two cars is even more so. I get it that people get "triggered", you scare the bejeesus out of them. Chasing you down is another thing, though...

A very simple reason they want to be the first ones and they will do anything possible to block / slow you down. Same reason why American’s hate Lane splitting / filtering on motorcycles. You going first and before them, so they hate it and want to intentionally block you

In most cases it can be chalked up to ignorant drivers. But on a lot of interstate highways, especially near cities, the right lane is often in terrible condition due to the pounding it takes from heavy loads. For years there was a 25 mile stretch of interstate near me where driving over 50 MPH in the right lane could literally batter your car out of alignment. Anyone driving a vehicle with low ground clearance was begging for an expensive repair job. And God help you if you were on a motorcycle.

I agree 100% and it really pisses me off, but I've seen quite a few clips from Canada where their drivers do it, too. I almost rear-ended some idiot several months ago because he was driving at 25 mph in the far left lane of a 65 mph highway with 3 lanes each way during a heavy rainstorm.

I don't understand how people can lose their shit so quickly. Aside from being completely pointless to rage at a random person on the street, it shows an alarming lack of self-restraint and, frankly, intelligence.

Its always those idiots that have a dashcam and trim it perfectly so you cant see how long they werent passing for in that lane. Obviously if someone hit him from behind too that guy must have been getting pissed off he wasnt passing too hence why he was so close behind him.

They were in the wrong, but that's not why. Being in the passing lane gives nobody any right to tailgate or brake check. You are wrong if you think otherwise. HOWEVER, he had all the time in the world to prevent the accident but decided instead to focus on flashing them.

Very few states give a shit about your perceived conveniences over public safety, thank God. A lane is a lane is a lane, people need to do what they need to do, not worry about you getting to work faster or else trying to kill someone.
