We can create a little more space to make sure we aren’t inadvertently pressuring someone to be agreeable about something that really isn’t okay for them.

Black women tried to join the movement and speak at meetings but were barred from doing so. In fact Sojourner Truth's famous poem performed at one of these meetings is a black woman's plea to be considered woman enough to be a part of women's rights. So that's why the slave joke was ok but the wage gap wasn't. The gap between white men and black women is greater than the gap between white men and white women.
