Hands up if you miss Murray Gold. 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ I do like Segun, but to me there's no one as Gold. One of the reasons that Doctor Who became so popular in this modern times its because his music go so well with the emotion portrayed by the actors. He really can catch and lift the scripts to something wonderful. I miss him dearly. Also, who hasn't daydreamed about been The Doctor while All The Strange Strange Creatures blasts at full volume?
@connormcrae2907
@connormcrae2907 5 жыл бұрын
I completely understand but disagree. I thought I would really miss Murray Gold, but for me Segun has been incredibly courageous in the role. Segun changes his musical style for each episode, and therefore you get some masterpieces like his Demons of the Punjab suite. They both have different styles, and I feel that Murray’s is more cinematic whilst Segun’s is more down to earth and specified. Nothing can take Murray’s brilliance away though.
@iz723
@iz723 5 жыл бұрын
Segun's seems more ambient, nothing memorable other than 13's theme.
@Wolf6119
@Wolf6119 5 жыл бұрын
Segun's songs are very pretty and thematic if you actually take the time to listen to them, but I think that's kinda the problem - You have to go out of your way to focus on them, or even really register that they're there. So far, none of his tracks really have any kind of "oomph", or any kind of recognizable melody that could instantly make you go "Oh shit, it's that song!" I like 13's theme, for instance, but it has absolutely no power or presence to it. It's a very pleasant, rolling kind of song, but it does nothing to set a scene or emphasize what the Doctor's doing. The more thematic themes are a bit better, such as the Pakistani-style music in Demons of Punjab or the little upbeat Kerblam! theme song (and its hilarious "evil" version), but I feel like a lot of the overarching themes are a bit of a let down.
@valerianaranjocruz25

You're right, of course. Segun has been really dinamic and risk taker, but personally it still doesn't grab my heart like Gold's music did. There's pieces of music that make me go "Ohhhh" like 13th theme, the demons of punjab and it takes you away, specially the last one, specially that moment where The Doctor is talking to The Solitract. I'm just waiting for the episode that will make me weep because of how wonderful the music is, like Heaven Sent did.

The Proms is a long established (over 100 years) Orchestral music festival,which lasts from July to September in the Albert Hall,and consists of a wide variety of concerts in many different genres. The Doctor Who proms seem to have ended now;but were a major highlight of the festival. Really interesting choice! This Dr Who December is quite innovative this year :)

Yeah and now a lot of people don’t like rose. I wasn’t fond of Martha not because of rose or freema but because of the writers. They didn’t really give her an interesting story to me. Other than the season final and eventually becoming a part of unit and a proper doctor. If those things didn’t happen I wouldn’t think she had that much interesting things about her. To this day she is higher up my list though. But it wasn’t to do with rose. I liked rose at first but the more I watched the more I found that she is a little Mardy and Micky deserves better. But I don’t padticually dispise rose either

Modern Doctor Who was massive in the UK during Eccleston and Tennant's run. I don't think it's been an much of a phenomenon here since. From series 5, the show was made more with the fanbase and other countries who might view it in mind (hence why you might have taken to it more than series 1-4), but in doing so it never felt as big here. I remember the week between The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. The media here in the UK blew up with speculation about who Tennant might regenerate into, everyone was talking about it.

Aw, that was a lot of fun to watch you react to actually. And got me pretty nostalgic as well. The music of Doctor Who by Murray Gold was always a huge part of the show for me. A lot of those tracks just manages to evoke so much emotion in me whenever I hear them. And I have several that I adore, but I have to give a shoutout to my absolute favourite piece of Doctor Who music, and that is This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home (the song they played over a lot of Doctor and Master stuff in this one). Not only because the Doctor and the Master has one of my favourite relationships in the entire show (across all incarnations) but also because I just think it's an absolutely beautiful piece of music that manages to capture so much of the complexity of those two, and also their relationship to Gallifrey, and the Time Lords. I honestly started crying when in World Enough and Time in s10 they played a version of that while Twelve talked about Missy. I just hadn't heard it in the show for so long and it got an immediate reaction out of me.

I appreciate so much that you could have chosen all minisodes and fan tribute vids and DVD extras etc and filmed 5-minute reactions to get through this month, but you've actually selected things that take you an hour just to watch, let alone the editing time. Not to mention the whole of the current season which you could have continued one a week but you know how much we all want to hear your thoughts on it. I'm looking forward to the rest of Doctor Who December and to knowing that you will be watching the New Year's special (more or less) when we all do. Our timelines are no longer out of sync! I mean.. the history of your reactions to Doctor Who are interesting because in a lotta ways I feel it probably mirrors that for a lotta people (to varying degrees, obviously), no matter when they first started watching. I first watched it as a little kid, watching random reruns of Fourth Doctor eps in the '80s. And it made little to no sense to me. It wasn't animated, but all live-action. There were no ninjas, spies, monsters, or robots (so I thought!). Most of it was just weird British adults talking to each other. I only forced myself to randomly watch it after I'd run out of all other TV I wanted to watch but didn't wanna go to bed yet. And little by little, I started getting into it, picking up on the scifi and time travel. Even after I was well into adulthood when it came back, I was overjoyed at hearing about Eccleston. I loved his performance. Then I found out halfway through Series 1 that he had left the show and I refused to watch anything new, as if my refusal to watch it would force the BBC to bring Eccleston back somehow. There's something about the show that, although I wouldn't call it a "Slow Burn" has a similar quality to it. There's definitely a deeper level of appreciation that comes from having watched at least a couple seasons and a regeneration or so, that makes you love the characters and what they've experienced and gone through. Rewatching the show is such an interesting experience. The pain you see in Nine's and Ten's faces means so much more after you've seen Day of the Doctor. Rose's significance to him makes so much sense when you realize she was the first human companion he had immediately after the Time War, the first one to remind him of all the good things that still exist, all the reasons he loved life and the universe and traveling and adventuring and helping people, that she was the one who drew him back out of the pit of self-loathing. It makes so much sense when you look at the show in its entirety and realize how, when the Doctor doesn't have human companions, how close he gets to the precipice of becoming what he dislikes and rejects most. The entire theme of always helping children, particularly in Eleven's era, has an entirely new dimension after watching the 50th. Twelve's speech at the end of Zygon Inversion means so much knowing everything the Doctor has been through.

Considering you were worried about not having enough to react to, I thought you had a load of reaction. You’ll definitely love the 2013 proms. My son and I managed to see the 50th anniversary concert at the Sydney Opera House. Happy times and places.

Great reaction. I don't hold you not liking Rose against you. I like the character but she can be a bit much sometimes. Rose used to be my favorite companion before Donna. I've come to appreciate Martha over time. I respect how she ended things with the Doctor on her terms. Often, his companions are left behind instead of doing the leaving. I hope Doctor Who At The Proms 2013 is among the videos for Doctor Who December. You would definitely enjoy that one. "I need at least a half hour dedicated to Wilf" Damn right.

I’m kicking myself for not going to the one in 2013 when I was back in the U.K. I’m sure you’ll get round to the later Proms shows, as it has your (and my) favourite Doctor. It’s funny thinking about your early reactions. There aren’t many shows for which I would have watched a not very enthusiastic reactor. Even more so, as I am a big Rose fan. Equally, there aren’t many reactors I would have watched struggling through a couple of series of some of my favourite tv. So this is a brief thank you Jess, it’s been a fun journey!
