Yonkers last day was yesterday. Went pass there early this morning (4/30) and there were about 5 cars parked at the side entrance but by afternoon there was none. Walked into the mall and Younkers is completely dark .The bridal shop is closed with a note saying they are being evicted for non payment.

In 1982 I worked at Musicland next to the arcade. Across from us was a Tom McAn shoe store. Across the road was Mid Cities Mall. I worked there at a disco place called The Back 40. Every summer in the 60s and 70s the parking lot had a carnival with rides and games. Thanks for the video 😊 brings back alot of memories for me!

Update 5/22.. The Wizard's Kingdom has announced their last day open will be 5/27 according to their Facebook page,saying it was "not their choice". Evidently the mall owner is going to shutter the mall up. My impression is that Avada Hearing is being asked to leave also .The mall was opened in 1979

The B-Dalton was on the other side, on the right when you were looking at Prange Way.. You filmed all of the book shelves at 5:59. That was one of my favorite bookstores back in the mid 80's.

The spot at 4:24 that you called "a youth gathering place" was a coffee shop that opened somewhere around 2010 or so and lasted less than a year. The spot was refurbished and updated for the shop. The mall's restrooms were also updated around that time. As you can see, the rest of the mall still has that 1979 look (when it opened).

I live in the town town where this mall is. My dad grew up when this mall was alive and he even remembers buying his Atari at Prangee Way on the far right of the store. This mall was doing decent seven years ago, with a collector's store, a barber shop, and a few other small stores and I attended several birthday parties at Wizard's Kingdom, which, along with Younkers, is the only thing keeping this place standing. But even Wizard's Kingdom is struggling, and they were selling their iconic wizard statues. I own one now. Due to this mall being on the northeast side of town, where businesses only get local attention, and more chain stores being built along the interstate, on the southwest side, I'd be surprised if it lasts ten more years.

Worked for Comcast for a bit and it was weird to run wire to that arcade or to that Younkers. The void in the ceiling is spooky. The Eyecare place moved on the south side of the city near Festival Foods. When you walked out on your left in the other vacant lot there was a lowly drive up ATM machine, I'd say it's been gone for about 4 years now. All this space and the city hasn't a clue what to do with it.

I'm glad I got to wander through that mall last year, both by myself and with my wife. Back in the early 90's my parents and I would make a trip to this mall and to the other that was demolished. I frequented the comic shop that was here. And I gotta chime in- are you a Wisconsin native? I have never heard anyone call an H. C. Prange company "Pranj".

Pragne's and Pragne Way (the 'g' is silent) were pretty local to Wisconsin, though there might have been a couple in Minnesota or Illinois. Pragne's was a traditional department store similar to Younkers or Boston Store. Pragne Way was a discount store, similar to Kmart, Target, or Shopko. These particular Pragne's and Pragne Way had a special significance to me. My grandparents lived near Manitowoc, which meant a lot of trips to Edgewater Plaza with my grandmother. Usually those trips would end with ice cream in the food court and a couple rounds of games at The Wizard.

Mayor Justin Nickels has announced that he wants to see the mall demolished in the near future...he doesn't want a repeat of the former Lakeview Center Mall which became a terrible eyesore after the final tenant,J.C. Penny's closed. The former Lakeview Center has remained empty for almost three years despite all the "plans" the owner had for the vacant property.

Younker's is in the process of closing their store at the mall,so it's the end of the line for this mall. All that will be left is The Wizard's Kingdom, Avadia Hearing,and a bridal store (that has such limited hours and days open that might as well be closed).Both The Wizard's Kingdom and Avadia have outside access ,so if they are going to be able to stay or have to move....Sad to see this happen seeing that both my Dad and I worked at the Mall from the mid 1980's until 2004 (my Dad died in 1993).

This is a strange mall. 3 anchors and only a handful of other shops. I do like the 70s interior though . One thing about 70s malls, you got lots of different styles and all generally putting a lot of effort in to the interior design. In my opinion a lot of malls started dying when they did things like Remove plants and trees, rip out fountains, get rid of the things that gave the mall its original unique style and replace them with white plain poor quality interiors. Sad times.

@@UrbexAPeakInside but that was one of the biggest knocks against it. It was built so far away from the interstate. There’s a reason why an interstate location is important. This mall is located on a scenic stretch between Manitowoc and Two Rivers.... and no one from Manitowoc is driving to Two Rivers for their shopping. Also, the mall is surrounded by apartments and houses. There weren’t enough ‘other things’ to attract people to this mall. This mall was dying for those reasons even in the early to mid 90s

Urbex- A Peak Inside The developer/owner must be making some money, or incentive, for keeping the mall barren. It is such a shame that useful space is not utilized. I wonder what the taxes are on the property, and what the assessed value is? It simply looks like the owner is being paid to intentionally leave it vacant.
@ericapp177 жыл бұрын
@Frederick Rothe III: The mall opened in 1979. With the exception of the short-lived coffee shop (opened & closed in 2010) at 4:24 and the mall's restrooms, little or no updates have probably ever happened. I'm waiting for this mall to follow in the footsteps of its neighbor across the street, the former Mid-Cities Mall. From 2000-2010, JC Penney remained open at the south end, after the rest of that mall was closed & sealed off. That mall was finally torn down in 2015. I''m thinking history will repeat itself here, this time with Younkers being the lone tenant.
