This steep and pointy deck is actually my favourite deck I have skated all year. Watch to find out why!

Hey Ben. Just wanted to say I love your reviews on skate equipment. Most of the time in skateboarding one will find reviews on shoes or at most wheels, but you review everything from deck shapes to truck designs and it’s sick. You sort of handle your reviews much similar to how a surfer would describe a surfboard and the fins that go with that certain board. You show how such minor shape differences can either aid or negatively effect a skaters performance in theier own conditions and tricks they are going for. As a longtime surfer and skater I really enjoy your channel because instead of just slapping a set up together I have a more methodical way of peicing together a skateboard. Thanks for everything man, the time spent away from your wife and kids to pursue your childhood hobbies is worth it to guys like me. Take it easy Ben. 🤙

That Jamie Foy shape reminds me a lot of those old Baker shapes from the late 2000's. Had a really pointy tail and nose and it took me a long time to get used to it. I even landed my first kickflip on that shape! I'll definitely consider one for my next board.

Great review! I'm riding a Primitive (nick tucker, 8,125'', tensor trucks and some bullshit wheels), and was curious on Deathwish! You should discuss on a few other things: what's the best music for skateboarding? What kind of wife/husband should a skateboarder get? what's the best tea for a skateboarder? How many children can a skateboarder have before it becomes ilegal to skateboard after work? And, last but not least, "why is the skateboarder"?

Love your gear reviews alot, I research and rewatch lately. But when you're skating anything under an 8.25 deck, you look like you're on a fingerboard Ben. More 8.25-8.5 deck reviews by "hesh shapes and different concaves pleez? As a tall skater who isn't young anymore, your in-depth reviews are completely taken to heart and I can actually understand when you get analytical about the details of some decks nuances and feel the same things when trying them myself. Damn that was long winded! Keep it up homie, looking forward to the future reviews/opinions!

Hey Ben, I was at the skatepark last night and I was trying stuff down a little drop. I'm comfortable in the air, I used to ollie big sets as a kid, but I never learned how to catch tricks in the air and commit to landing a trick off a dropoff or stairs. Could you make a video on catching tricks in the air off drops. I know you dont do much impact skating but a few tips would be great. Honestly I think it's just confidence and I keep catching my varial heels with my front foot and my back foot lands right next to the tail. I basically need to commit and am scared of breaking my ankle for the 4th time..
@hermanvirgen57125 жыл бұрын
I struggle with the same situation. I think its just commitment. Having the tricks consistently on flat ground before taking it up a notch helps too. It is harder the taller you go due to hang time sometimes I will catch what I think is a perfect kickflip (off a ledge say knee high) and it starts to come off my feet a little and I get a bit of ankle impingement if I do land it this way.
@sn1000k5 жыл бұрын
I like this request, especially because Ben here is such an articulate gent I think he could really offer some good advice. I've been honing tricks off a curb in the hopes that I can take them to bigger stuff Worked so far with shove-its, I did one of those down a two set without even thinking about it the other day.
@PONYBOYonline4 жыл бұрын
You just answered your own question. You need to commit. What are you thinking the moment before you jump down the drop? Are you actually truthfully telling yourself that you’re going for it?? Or are you just pretending that you’re trying a trick but really you know in your head that you’re going to bail? If you can do a trick pretty well on flat, then you can do it down an average drop. And by flat I don’t mean looking down at your board...pick a crack in the ground and pretend that’s the beginning of a gap, go at it with speed and do your trick. That’s about the same as jumping down most drops.

Even though this comment is 9 months old, an independent hollow would be pretty good. I have a 8.0 baker with Indy regulars and I feel like the trucks make the board feel really heavy

Ben I have a deck set up that's unmanageable for me...For some reason it won't pop a kickflip, every kickflip is ghost popped or if I try as hard as I can to pop it the board actually flies higher than my feet. I'm considering throwing Indies on there after watching your video on trucks and wheelbase, it's a Real roman numeral 2 and I guess I'm used to 4s and 5s. What do you do when you have a deck that just makes you hate skating?

@@lesfaul4924 You're not gonna want to hear this, but I set up a new girl and it kickflips fine now.
