Thank you so much!! Hundreds of millions of videos on KZfaq and no one's bothered to explain how to find out how a switch is wired internally. Not all switches are created equal and I got one with 3 prongs, absolutely no markings (all solid silver colour as well) and no idea which prong is which? I have a multimeter but never really used it, but now I can figure out how my switch works and can finally install some work lights on my SUV to help with reversing on dark forest paths and loading trailers. Thank you again for putting it into layman's terms and not assuming that everyone has a switch with clear markings or just naturally know how they function. 🙏

Thank you! Replacing toggle on rv portable macerator pump. Original ran over by friend. Second one melted due to 10 gauge wire being spliced with 12 gauge wire....whoops! Honestly didn't think batteries could cause a motor to put out so much heat. I liked the ease of the led lighted switch and seen that it was available in 12v 30A, as I needed. Got home and looked at it and was stumped. Found your video in a search. I appreciate the diagram and how well you explained. Thank you! My mother is very grateful to you for saving her from having to go out into the night to our house. It reminds her too much of the scary outhouse runs as a child. OMG!! I think you've saved my sanity four years later. Only five 10am and two 15amp fuses later. I needed to connect the ground hooked to the gold tab.

I've been doing toggle switches for Decades, one important thing I didn't hear anyone doing these videos mention about setting up toggle switches, are the right gage wire, and not to mention to never forget to turn the switches off when not in use😁👍

I looked at the top three featured videos on how to wire up a 3 pin toggle switch and they were conflicting in their explanations primarily because they did not explain the circuitry. Preciate it. Good explanation. Im just trying to wire these 6 (3w-12v) LED to 1 switch. I got it now. Thanks. All +'s off lights joined together to 1 terminal on output. 1 wire from fuse box to other input. All grounds together from lights and the ground from fusebox as 1 terminal for ground.

It definitely answered a few questions I have for my current project which is to add two 7" LED light bars to my boat trailer which I'll be able to turn on/off from within my vehicle. Each LED bar is rated at 60 watts, 12v-24v so using a 12v car battery, I calculated each light bar will use 5 amps (60 watts / 12v). I hope this correct. Anyway, I'm planning to run a wire from the positive terminal on my car battery to the "input" on the 3 prong toggle switch, a wire from the negative battery terminal to the "ground" on the switch then a wire from the "load" prong on the switch to a fuse holder then from the fuse holder to the positive on one light bar. I'm going to run the 2 light bars in series so the negative from the first light bar to the positive of the second light bar. Finally, the negative on the 2nd light bar to the negative battery terminal. I do have a couple of questions: 1) does this wiring plan sound correct? 2) what size fuse should I use (5 amp or 10 amp) and 3) what gauge wire should I use? From my car battery to the back of my vehicle is about 16 ft, then from the back of my vehicle to the back of my boat trailer where the light bars will be mounted is roughly another 17 feet.

I was wiring up two 4” LED lights to my atv. I know of ground as green which grounds to the frame. You clarified that ground on 12v is the black wire to the battery. Hense positive and negative... lol. Within the first 30 seconds to a minute into your video I knew what happened

This video helped me explain how I will wire my rocker switch to my 12v light in the bus conversion I am building. My 12g wire has an extra wire (3 solid wires inside the wrapping) so I was a bit confused, so now I know I just dont use the copper (3rd) wire from the 12 gauge wire. That may not make sense but your video and a friend helped me understand what needs to be done. :)

Not only did you have the toggle switch that I am looking to replace but you're explanation in detail with your drawings and what I would call normal speaking tempo and normal English pronunciation or is it innunciation ??? lol😁. Also having a quiet shop makes it all the worth while listening. I have a mr. Coffee basic machine that for some reason that little round small toggle switch that you have as an example stayed pressed on the on position and will not return to the off position. My son-in-law who was the last to use the coffee maker notice that it stayed on the on precision and not return to the office so he just unplugged it off the wall and the next time that he made coffee he just plugged it back on to the wall. Now I come to make coffee and it doesn't work with the switch or plugging it to the wall so my guess is that inside the little round toggle switch it must have gotten burned out and somehow for some electrical reason maybe the switch wont rock back to the off position ??? I did visually check to see if the wires were burn some where, they are not. I kind of want to open the toggle switch and see what's inside of it since I am not an electrical educated person at all, but just a tinkerer who believes that either I can fix it.... if it's broken ? or I can switch a part for a new one and make it work. Plus lately with this covid-19 shut down I'm having more time to explore these household appliances. I'm also working on a vacuum cleaner that my daughter was about to throw away cuz it doesn't work and so far I just found too much dried up combination of dirt and possibly water that was vacuumed which harden up and a combination of string, hair and other things wrapped up on the spool, most likely keeping it from turning. I put that one aside realizing that the belt is okay and it's probably just need a deep cleaning so I could work on a lawn mower... Whenever you get this note or one of your coworkers please accept my appreciation for each of you that is willing to help us understand even as minute as a toggle switch connection and I'm guessing from your explanation that if I wanted to install the toggle switch but not carrying for the LED to turn on, I can just install it on either the ground or the positive wire and not necessary have a third wire connected. This lesson is going to help me also in case I want to add some lights to my motorcycle with its on toggle switch and I know somewhere I will install a line fuse. Thanks for the help I am working on a power box for my kayak/camping and hooked the ground up to one of the outside terminals of the 3 prong led switch.....flaming rubber and glowing wires. Quickly disconnected from the battery and got the wires loose. Exciting night but now after the video I'm sure that will not happen again thanks again wishbi would watched the video b4 attempting myself.

Yep.....connected the earth and active to a 2 pin toggle on a distributor 12v board . Light worked but when I flicked the toggle “pop” went the fuse.....did it 3 times before I opened it up and worked it out.....3 hours later I see this video🤦🏻 hi from Australia 🇦🇺

I did exactly that. I was trying to wire a three prong toggle switch for my amp. I ended up hooking the wire from the toggle to my 12 v on my headunit and the ground on the toggle to a ground on a bolt and blew my radio fuse. I still haven’t hooked it up yet. Thats why I’m here lol
