I installed one of these without testing which was Ground, Load, and Source, and load was center, as you found out, but since I hadn't tested the switch, I reversed the Source and Ground, and the result was a short, as power was able to travel into the Ground pin and right back out the Source pin (electrifying ground), completing a circuit and causing an unexpected spark shower, as these same switches are also usually rated for 20A 120V AC, and the appliance I was using it on was just that. After finding my mistake and restoring a safe situation, I hunted around for a video to confirm, and this is a good explanation of how to do it right, but just for everyone's information, if you do get it wrong, it's possible that you can create a short that dumps A/C current to ground, which should trip a breaker or blow a fuse. Even worse, if you make this mistake on 120V A/C in a home that doesn't have proper grounded outlets, you can electrify the grounded case of an appliance and get shocked. I know this channel is oriented toward automotive uses, but my experience is that these switches are designed and used in A/C appliances, too, so I'm just writing this experience up in hopes the cautionary tale will drive home the point that you need to test the prongs and not just slap an identical looking switch into something to replace one that broke, especially if the new one has no labels.

Thank you! I put a pair of front fog lamps on my car and installed the toggle switch in the centre console. I ran the live from the toggle switch into the fuse box and piggy backed a fuse that only goes live when the ignition is switched on (just in case I forget to turn off the toggle switch). What happens if you flip supply with earth? Does the light still come on? Edit: What I mean is, can the direction of the negative/ ground be flipped and still acheve the same result? Also your actual switch had the positive in and positive out next to each other with the ground ( brass colored spade ) at the end. i have a switch thats one of those that springs back into place for on and off.(slides up and then bounces back down when let go) it has 4 pins and 3 have continuity in the switches stationary position and those 3 have continuity with the 4th pin when the switch is being toggled. It seems the first 3 pins are continuous with ground. Im a bit lost on why it doesnt have an input and output. Any ideas with that and how to use it?

I'M STUCK!!!! I know I am way over thinking this, even with the toggle being labeled! I am wiring a 3 prong LED Toggle as an on and off switch for my dual volt meter (1 for main battery, 1 for system power supply)! I have a volt meter on my RCA Bass Knob that has a very fast re-up time, but want this one there for extra confidence if you will. Also, I removed the cigarette lighter and assembly as it is a perfect location to monitor. So, if anything easier to follow, lol! Switch has Power, Acc, ground labeled.

So what about when I want to tap into my high beam where do I hook that wire to ?….the battery side or the light side

Hi my name is Christy I'm 62 years old I got a lot of medical problems I used to work in maintenance and with my father and he taught me a lot not a whole lot but enough to make it unusual that a woman could do I've been through a chronic depression my legs are messed up COPD and heart problems I work my butt off at my work but I never got recognized for anything I did they look to seem to be upset and amazing stuff I was so proud of to show them I never got a thank you and smile and week in the I like my father used to do nothing like good job nothing but the guy in maintenance finds a dead rat and he gets an award are we done to officers in the middle of the where Warehouse they were condemned nobody could be in them no more I told him that I'll get it done in two weeks he look like he wanted to see me quit so he made sure that I had to do with the rest of my areas to the building plus somebody that didn't come to work plus their areas and plus I had to do this job within a certain time I did amazing work I replace walls are two tone color the outside of the the office is cuz they're in the middle of the warehouse two tone colors Mervyn's colors cleaned up all the walls that we had holes in them and dents Cuts and Nails and Staples in why do go on and on two weeks later after I got done with it I got it done in 3 weeks it was beautiful I was so proud of myself for the ability and the talent they had inside me that I took after my father I loved it I loved it the day went by so quick sometimes I wouldn't take my brakes I didn't get a thank you good job nothing no recognition but two weeks later there other maintenance guys found a dead rat and they gave him an award and this other guy painted one room and they gave him an award and they make sure they set it at the same time and they're all looking at me like I wanted to see if I was going to fall apart of what right there I knew I'm against men that can't handle a woman that could do this kind of thing it was so stupid that they were stupid enough that they weren't confident enough to be able to do it themselves I was just having a good time but you showing that's how you do toggle switch thank you because I forgot how well little bit but I learned a lot from your 2 toggle switches 3 toggle switch I never knew about the three toggle switch so now I have to be able to put a light on putting a inflatable big boat together with the floor lights Navigator all kinds of stuff I'm fixing this boat up good I'm going to have a sixteen-year-old assistant I'm going to pay him for his time but he's going to learn a lot because the work I do always has my name on it and I always make sure that I do it right I'm going to try to make a video but I just hope I don't lose it because

Hey, thanks for this diagram, it was super helpful! I was working on painting the interior cabinets in a 2002 Ford Econoline Eclipse, I made the mistake of unhooking the rocker switch wires without taking a picture first of how the wires were connected. When I connected them back I can't get it to work at all no matter what combination of the three wires I use. So my question is: can a rocker switch go bad or could I have blown a fuse somehow by misinserting the wires again? I really didn't disturb the wires connecting the lights etc much when removing the cabinets, so I don't want to think there is a short in the wires somewhere can I already reinstalled the cabinets, UGH, HELP! I ordered a multimeter today LOL

Three prong baoman rocker switch. Works to turn load on and off. But led does not come on. Check to be sure ground is connected to ground. Amazon shipped 5 switches and none work. Sigh. If i attach ground to bat ground and another prong to positive should led come on when toggle switch??

When I turn the switch off, the led comes on. When I turn it on, the led goes off. That is without the "earth" prong even used or plugged in. Where should that prong be grounded to? Can it just be a common ground, or does it need to be grounded to the device? This is not connected to the ignition, so I don't want the light staying on all the time.

The three prong switch you showed the outside copper colored tab was ground but the diagram you drew had the center prong as a ground so please clarify

Sorry.. I have a 12 volt dc power supply, and a 12 volt LED light bar and a micro switch. How am I supposed to connect them together? The LED light bar has a wire that connects to the power supply and the power supply connects to the wall... but how do I connect the micro switch? If I'm not mistaken your drawing was incorrect. Because you had it looked like a battery or power box with two leads coming off it to a lite bulb which would had been either your neutral and load leads if it was Ac. Or pos/neg if it was direct current. A those two leads would be what those two lead should be between the bulb and source and depending on which switch you have both wires goes to the switch and the load should go to two terminal and neg or neutral goes to the other.So when the switch is thrown one way your device is lit up and when it is turned off then your switch is lit up. Let me know if that is not like this. Thank You

The brass is supposed to be ground, but it's seems inconsistent on which end of the switch it's on. I look at a liot of diagrams online and the brass (ground) is on the LED end of the switch, power in is the center and farthest from led end is your load. Your switch, is like the one i just put in, the brass pin is fathest from the LED. problem with mine is that the LED lights up when the switch is off, and ush the toggle where the LED is, and the LED goes out. WTF

totally confusing - in your continuity test, you show that the centre pin and one outside pin are the open close for the power and the gold is ground. And they you draw a diagram and use the two outside pins as the open close power for the power line. What gives?

Maybe you should have put the prongs on the pic with the color. Ie: gold- neutral silver input/ output
