Despite all of the classes getting equal attention throughout the original series, this class really felt like an afterthought since it's inception. They were side characters to Zig & Maya's class.

Another great Degrassi video! I wish Next Class had continued - I would've liked to see what they'd do with Esme. I think maybe she had borderline personality disorder. I was also really starting to like Lola in the later seasons. And Yael finally got an interesting storyline at the very end. Editing to add that I just heard the Degrassi reboot was cancelled 😭

I believe the next class could’ve had potential to be a great show if TeenNick would have taken the reins instead of Netflix. But if TeenNick would’ve kept the rights to Degrassi it would’ve went into a season 15 which we now know as next class. With that being said a lot of the class of 2017 storylines would’ve been more developed than we know. And as for rankings, the class of 2006 is my number one, but if we take out the college storyline from the class of 2007 then I would rank that class is number two

I wish Netflix (and other streaming services) weren’t so committed to the 10ish episode season. Yes, some shows are better off with 10 episodes and we shouldn’t force them into the 20 episode season. But the same can be said for the other way around. Some shows (mostly character driven shows like Degrassi) need the room to breathe. You can’t get to know and care about all the characters if you only have 10 episodes

I felt bad for esmee she showed huge signs of bipolar disorder and her story reminded me of myself before I was diagnosed and how I genuinely felt alone before knowing I had a mental disorder.

Zoe is such an un-redeemable character imo. The way she treated Maya to pimping out power squad is just all too bad to forgive.

In no particular order, my favourite classes are 2011, 2014, 2006, 2007, and 2015/16. I was entertained by 2014 the most; especially characters like Drew, Ali, Bianca, etc. Great video as usual, THT GUY! Been bingin' these videos everyday they came out!

the seasons being so much shorter than TNG really didn't help the character development problems. saying that I do like some of this class and it would have been interesting if they were explored a bit more (especially esme)

It's so funny to me that ranking classes is 100% a thing I do as a high school teacher as well. Everybody of course has their unique personalities, but it's true that cohorts develop a collective persona especially by the time they hit high school. Some cohorts being complete "blah" is definitely something I've observed as a teacher. Rankings aside, I feel so happy when I see a Degrassi alum on a different show or in other movies. It's such a cultural deep cut to know the show well enough to recognize the individual actors and their roles on Degrassi. For example, I find it beautiful that the Netflix show Ginny and Georgia casted THREE Degrassi alum who all would've worked together on the Degrassi set at the same time.

Honestly throughout the series I has a love-hate relationship with Zoey. Yes, her assault sort line was powerful asf and it affected me now and younger me a lot more than I expected. But yeah- Zoey was a huge bitch at times but I mean- what person isn’t? But I still sort of love and hate her so we gon leave it at that 😂

I saw a horror movie with the actor who played Hunter. So when he’s going through it with the bringing a weapon thing, well in the horror movie it fits that other role really well. I enjoyed the film. I want to say it was named I think Extracurricular, not sure which streaming service it was on, most likely Netflix, Hulu, and possibly Amazon if it’s still up for free. It was neat to see him playing another character, I think it went pretty well for only seeing him in Degrassi! I’ve been binging all your videos today and I think I’ve watched almost all the classes (LOVE THIS FORMAT OMG MAKES SO MUCH SENSE) and you brought up things I forgot and I thought I knew almost all of the show with how many times I’ve rewatched the show. Thanks for doing this series, and honestly impeccable job seriously! Loved it and sad I’m almost done with them 😭

I love toby because he never gets any love and has some rough things to deal with especially after Rick and going to his funeral and hearing from Rick’s family seemed so hard for him because he was rick’s friend, but knows he did something wrong and I wish we could’ve seen more development with his character, maybe more importance post JT passing which I still cannot believe I made it through that video without crying. Again wonderful job! Not sure how I’d rate the classes I’ll have to come back after maybe rewatching some seasons 🎉

Alex Johnson plays the character and she also sang the version of the Degrassi theme song that started in season 11. That's such a fun Easter Egg for dorks like me, but also confirms those shows take place in the same universe. I love it.

3. Class of 2013 2. Class of 2006 class of 2007 those have to be my favorite classes throughout the ENTIRE show

I got too excited and had to share my own thoughts - I'm sorry! Quick Lola note - the abortion storyline was done so well - it rivalled Manny's - and kinda beat it out, just because of the modernisms and the openness. Hunter... I know he had a legitimate diagnosis and there are serious issues with him - but like.. This all started with a video game? Was it a ploy to be like "see, videogames bad!"? Frankie - Until Frankie doubled down and said "I didn't know - but see, I didn't know so I can't be racist!" I kinda understood the whole "Oh shit, I didn't know this was a thing" privilege that Frankie had. I had the privilege of not understanding properly either until this episode. (White girl with disabilities - I was treated as if I only knew how to count to 10 growing up lol!) Also - yes, all the girls should have been held responsible - not just Frankie. Esme - I got super confused about her mom's storyline, because Esme was proven to be lying about so many things, I thought that was another lie. Also - she didn't lie about a panic attack - she lied about anaphylaxis and was legitimately considering stabbing herself with an epi pen to get the attention away from Maya. Shay - she didn't kiss Tiny while Lola and Tiny were together, Shay/Tiny were keeping their relationship on the down low to respect Lola because Shay asked Lola (repeat from when Lola asked Shay) if she could date Tiny and Lola said no. I thought the storyline of Shay and Tiny having sex was well done. It was cute, and there wasn't drama like cheating, pregnancy, STI's, etc. It was simple and sweet. My top 3 is 3: 2016, 2: 2013 1: 2007 (minus the college storylines) Also - you could do a video on the 91/92 classes of degrassi now :D haha!

I agree that the best classes to me where the ones with characters I actually liked (that had interesting stories and development) so for me that was 2013 (coincidentally - also my IRL graduating year XD) I feel like Bianca was Alex but done better. Once she started to change for the better she stayed on that positive track (even with a few hiccups). In fact, I loved that Drew came into her life as a positive influence, but she ended up at a point where she was doing even better on her own. I was upset with how she treated Ally (bc Ally was lowkey a fave from 2014) but other than that, her romance, and individual plotlines were really good. Katie to me was annoying at her worst, but really relatable and sympathetic at her best. I also agree she and Maya had the best sibling relationship on the show, and I personally rate that very high. And for a while I really liked her friendship with Marisol. I also super loved Fiona. I think she was maybe the weakest character of her year (aside from Mo) just because the actress wasn't super great. But I liked her friendship with Holly J, and her relationship with Imogen, and again, once she was on a trend of positive growth, she pretty much stayed on that path. I only wish that didn't mean relegating her to boring background appearances until the end of the season when her relationship ends. Even though Dallas graduates a year later, I loved his growth, and his relationship with Ally. He was very messy in the beginning, but I kind of loved the drama he created. He was both a believable bully and a believable hero once he changed for the better. Eli is Eli. His drama with Clare made the show more interesting even if he wasn't my favorite character. But overall, I think this makes 2013 my favorite year. After that it goes, 2016 2011 2006 2007 2008 2017 I know I ranked some of the OG's pretty low, but honestly, I found most of them so dislikeable for most of their tenure on the show. With notable exceptions, Jimmy, Paige, Mia (I know she had a short run but I still liked her), and Manny.

Thank you for a trip down memory lane. I will 1000% agree that 2006 was the best class from the character development, drama, and acting skills (imo). From Jimmy, Jay, every character was worked and utilized. I wish I learned half of what I did on Degrassi on an American TV show. STI, SA, queer people, love, family life, mental illness and finding resources to help, bullying, abortion. The shows writers truly deserve all accolades, flowers, and generating quality teen programing.

I graduated high school in 2015, and I think it really influences my opinion because I grew up with a mix of the 2011-2016 classes, to be quite honest. Season 10 really got me into fandom culture in general, and will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason. Fiona, Eli, Adam, and Clare in particular were standouts for me from this era; Adam was a huge factor in helping me realize I'm trans, so this era of Degrassi effected my life in such a positive way that I have to rank them highly. Miles and Maya were also standouts for me, as I really related and identified with their mental health struggles. So, for me, I rank the classes like this: Class of 2015/2016 Class of 2014 Class of 2011 Class of 2013 Class of 2006 Class of 2017 Class of 2007 Class of 2008

Just imagine if Degrassi Next Class had a season 5 & 6. We would've seen these guys in their senior year. Frankie, Hunter, Lola & Shay would've been the last few from the last degrassi show.

I never thought I'd rank a NC class so highly, but after re-watching for the 2nd time, I'm right there with you about the class of 2016. Were some of their storylines whack and character development was completely dropped from TNG (ahem... Tiny and I guess no prosecution for Zoe over Degrassi nudes... OKKKKKKK)? Yes, but by the end, I really really liked almost every character and the Maya depression storyline, and really her entire arc across her seasons, was SO WELL DONE. I was so affected by it all and everything she did after Cam's death, culminating in her own attempt, all made sense to me. I did not care for Tristan ever, but he gave us "Sayonara, Miles Hollingsworth" so I can't hate him LOL. I love your videos BTW!

I know I started falling off watching Degrassi sometime in the middle of Next Class but I remember A LOT of the shit you talked about in this video. Maybe its because the seasons were so short that missing half of a season is only a few episodes instead of like, 20, but I thought there was way more I missed. Cool.. I guess? Either way, we all know the original Next Generation was the best class(2006/07) with things dipping once they tried to keep them relevant with college years. There were definitely little gems sprinkled throughout the rest of the classes(Holly J, Alli, Drew, Eli, Bianca, Adam and I want to lock Imogen in my basement and just feed her grapes and paint her toes all day long 😻!), and its still entertaining as hell but for me, as a collective whole, Emma and all her wacky peers was the DEFiNiTiVE "next generation".

Honestly I find it hard to rank the classes because I love aspects of all of them. If I had to try I think it would look like this: 2014 2016 2013 2017 2006 2007 2011 2008 The first class I actually watched through most of their time on the show as it was airing was 2016 so at one point they were probably my favorite but given that most of the characters from the class of 2014 are so iconic that even though I watched most of their time after it already aired I have to rank them as #1.

I stopped Degrassi like 2 seasons after JT died I’ve missed so much!! Now I have to go watch on Tubi 😅😅

The biggest issue with The Next Class is that the show's plot leads with traumatic events while thinking they're being clever, whereas TNG is more character driven, which as a result makes their response to trauma feel more grounded and interesting. TNC failed to make the characters interesting first, and as a result something as generation defining as the bus crash pales in comparison to a standard TNG plot.
