helpful knowledge that not a lot of people know: that deep emotional bond you need to have romantic attraction to someone? it's not the same for everyone ^^ for some it may take years, for some it may be months, weeks, etc! just because your experience doesn't sound exactly like another demiromantic persons' doesn't mean its not valid

Hi, Demiromantic Heterosexual here, hoping to give some clarity if anyone needs it as to what the difference is between Demisexual and Demiromantic feelings (obviously my words about Demisexuality will be based on secondhand accounts as I am not demisexual). I like to imagine relationships as moments to look forward to in the future, often visualized within a house. If I have sexual feelings for someone, that's represented by being able to see myself with them in the "bedroom" of the house. But I didn't have romantic feelings until I could visualize myself in every "room" of the house with that person. I often say I fall in love with the soul of a person, and it takes time to discover the soul. That's why it was 2 years of friendship before something flipped and I developed my first romantic crush on the person who I am still in love with and in a relationship with, going on 7 years.

As a demi (duh) (only romantic, not sexual) (also straight cis dude), yes, online dating is... well I do it, swipe on people, but I don't expect anything to really come out of it 'cause the whole idea of it is people going in with the expectation of finding someone to date. Which is something I don't want. I need friends (urgently). I need a friendship to grow into something more. So I treat online dating as more of a joke. There's also very little series or especially movies that do romance in a way I can associate with. It's usually like a 'love at first sight' kinda deal. The best romantic relationship development I've seen in any form of media is in 'the dragon prince'. That shit ruins me. I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore demiromantic though, I still _can_ get crushes, in a way.. But they're weird, 'cause I feel attraction of some kind but it doesn't feel justified since I don't know them yet. So it's probably mostly visual/some-form-of-sexual attraction. Although when I see someone new I'm visually attracted to and am around for a bit (like at a new school, or someone on public transport), I try to look for as much info on their personality instantly. My motto when it comes to being demi (if there is such a thing as a motto for being blablabla in this way), would be this: *I know to date, not date to know.* I find it weird that so many people start getting romantically involved (aka start dating) to get to know the other person. I mean... that's how breakups happen, how can you get romantic with someone you don't really fully know yet? I _need_ that friendship to be there, on all levels, both casual and serious. Hey there! Lately I've been questioning if I could be demiromantic. I am pretty sure I am allosexual, having sexual relations with someone I like even if a stranger would be cool, but the romantic aspect is still a bit... Confused? I've had a feel crushes in my life, and 90% of then happened with friends (one of then being with someone I coexisted but only talked once, and I'm not even sure it WAS a crush(?)). I thought that was just a "me thing", but now a seed of doubt is growing. Like, usually I only have a crush after I connect in some way to the person, even if we are not really friends yet. For example, one girl says something nice and we have a cool conversation, and now all of suden a girl I had no interest in became a little crush. Like... bisexuality isn't js attraction to male and female. it's attraction to 2, maybe 3, genders in the entire spectrum of genders. but idk. i am attracted to both m and f, but other people out there could be attracted to 2 completely dif. genders. :)

Online dating isn't actually that hard. I can hardly speak to people irl for friendly talk. Online is easier. I felt I really got to know my long distance girlfriend after we were friends for a year and a half. If you meant dating apps, that's a whole different story.

I may be weird (aren't we all but), this might be a weird take but eh: coming out as demi? really? I don't feel like it's that big of a deal. I've known multiple people to just respond with "oh, isn't everyone like that?" (they obviously don't mean 'everyone', but y'know..) It just feels weird that you would be 'coming out' as if it's as impactful as coming out as gay, trans or non-binary. Then again, I don't even feel like this is really that much part of lgbtq in the same way for the same reasons, so maybe I'm just weird. And hey, everything has different impacts on everyone, so... y'all do y'all I guess?
