In my experience they’re mad they can’t have sex with me and take my rejection personally. I regularly have to tell people they’re not special. I reject everyone’s sexual advances equally. This also upsets them. Oh well

There's a micro-label in the aro community called belluromantic! It's where someone likes the more traditional ideas of romance but doesn't feel any romantic attraction. (This all depends on what label you find most comfortable and finds what fits you!)

I've actually found that cupioromantic can be a great catch-all for this. I (would) use it myself. FYI: I don't think I've ever felt romantic attraction but I usually love the idea of being in a romantic relationship with someone. What I think attracts me is this idea of emotional safety (being able to express yourself, not feel the need to keep up appearances, etc.) and of course netflix-n-chill! But since I'm not sure whether hot chocolate and fluffy blankets qualifies as 'romance', I usually still try to explain my situation. I hope I'll find (romantic) love one day. There's actually been a hopeful someone. Not sure if it's (deep) platonic though... I think maybe what I want is physical contact, as in snuggling but also just feeling one another? Sensual attraction I think it's called? Sorry if this turned into a bit of a rant

This is absolutely true, but not for everyone. I have a friend who used to have a label but now goes as unlabeled. From what I understand, some people feel like sexuality is a personal thing, and doesn’t matter, so why would they go around saying it? Some people just need to figure out what they like and don’t like, but feel like it doesn’t need to be put into words. And I do agree that sexuality doesn’t matter in that it shouldn’t affect anyone’s perception of you (except if they were interested in having sex with you or dating you), but now I have a question that I don’t really have an answer to, or actually, several questions. Pride is great, it brings awareness to that group’s struggles, and helps people realize they aren’t “broken” or “confused” or “meant to be unhappy”. And one day, every sexuality will be known everywhere! (unfortunately that doesn’t mean no discrimination, but that’s a little off topic to my question). But, what happens then? Do we get rid of pride? I mean, ultimately we’re still people, all the flag and label represents is how we feel when it comes to sex or romance, and people are so much more than that. There isn’t a hetero flag. Should there be once every sexuality is more commonly known? Should we even have labels at all, since it doesn’t really make us all that different?

Agreed! The way some of these defined aromantic as 'not interested in having a romantic relationship' just isn't true - it's actually the lack of romantic attraction, not whether you like relationships or not.

I'm demi romantic and I get this "How do you have relationships if you can't feel love?" . Like... I don't bond easily nor am I attracted in that way but I still am able to feel romantic love.

He’s my partner and I’m super close to him but I’m not attracted to him. I love him as much as I can as an aro person but it’s not romantic and no attraction is involved, more his company is amazing and we have a strong bond so we’re dating

But it was hard to differentiate if I was aro or not because of the aesthetic attraction. I was so happy when I discovered myself though. Such a liberating feeling

idk if this helps, but i’m aroace and the way i figured out my aromanticism was by researching what every kind of attraction is! there’s sexual attraction, romantic attraction, and platonic attraction, which you already know, but there’s also aesthetic attraction, sensual attraction, and alterous attraction! looking those up and comparing the description to how you’ve felt or currently feel about people you know could help, it did for me at least.

My guess is that people mix up attraction with action. Ive seen a lot of allos get angry because they thought demisexuals just... accuse them of sleeping around constantly or something. Which is not what that is, obviously.

This is exatly why it took me so long to figure out that I was ace(I knew I was aro pretty early on during my questioning journey(or whatever yoy wanna call it), but the ace part got VERY confusing.

Those are some terrible experiences to go through. Since you do not seem to feel any kind of sexual attraction, you most likely are ace and can use the label if you want.

Sexuality is not important. Neither are labels. Move on with your life and do things you enjoy. Hopefully you sometimes get to do them with people whose company you also enjoy. If not, you still get to enjoy the things you like
