The ‪@DesertTechUT‬ SRS A1 and A2 are a radical departure from traditional N. American precision rifles... even for chassis rifles. Of course the bullpup design is no longer new, but there are only a very few bullpup precision bolt action rifles.
As a magnum cartridge chassis, the SRS is able to bring a suppressed high velocity, high energy cartridge to the table in an exceedingly small package; smaller than a typical intermediate caliber precision rifle, and unsuppressed even shorter than an M16A2.
As of 2016, the SRS was even adapted by the Ukranian SSU and some other organizations around the world. Officially in 2022, the Desert Tech SRS has real combat time... but how does it shoot?
**We specifically used a ‪@HUXWRX‬ HX-QD 762 flow thru can to minimize the operational temperature.

Guys we did make an error on this rifle’s designation as this is the SRS M2 and not the A2. Still the A2 has some great upgrades and has a similar core performance.

@@jessewrigley5664 It's okay to say two rounds less than 2" from each other at 1000 is impressive. Just because you yourself have accomplished something doesn't make it less impressive - that just means you've done something impressive. The AI is an awesome rifle and sounds like you're quite skilled behind it. With that said, our shot here on video wasn't actually that impressive...we came up .1 mils after the impact on the bottom edge. So our POA was actually adjusted and thus, not a true stacked set of rounds.

About magazine length: the SRS mag is extra long by design. I'm sure you've heard the complaints about older mags and chassis systems being too restrictive wrt cartridge OAL for magnum chamberings. It doesn't provide any benefit when shooting standardised ammo, but if Desert Tech wants the system to be adopted by civilian long range enthusiasts it probably is a necessary feature.

Point of order: You are demontrating the SRS M2, not the A2. the barrels and basic chassis are the same, the handguard is significantly different and you cannot retrofit it to an A2. M2 is what added the continuous top rail and the bottom ARCA rail. Great video anyway! Would love to see Henry shooting an HTI in .375 Cheytac as far as you have the range for I get using mil-spec 300WM for show reasons, but with the US military moving towards .300 Norma Mag, that might have been a better demonstration of capability vs next-generation contenders.

We culled 1,000's of Australian Feral Scrub Bulls, Pigs, Camels etc running a plethora of 300Win Mag Rifles our main ones being Remington Sendero's topped with 8x Kahles and 4-16x Burris Scopes. The 300Win Mag is an effective and efficient killer that'll shoot flatter and further which was our main need being our long shots ranged from 500 - 650 meters.

a lot of the big powerful cartridges aren't much faster at the muzzle than 5.56, usually they're slower, they're just really heavy projectiles. they retain energy, and velocity, but not enough to be actually flat too far. almost anything struggles to stay flat past 300 meters.
@raifsevrence
@raifsevrence Жыл бұрын
If his hand loads were accurate to his stated speed, it's flying close to the same speed as M855 from a 16" and about 100fps slower than XM193. That's awfully impressive for a bullet that weighs more than 3 times as much. No idea what velocity it is carrying by the time it makes it out to 1,000y , but it smacked that target fairly hard. Assuming someone could reliably hit something that small at 1,000y with 5.56, you would be hard pressed to even know the target was hit. It wouldn't do more than vibrate.
@adam-k
@adam-k Жыл бұрын
Win mag bullet speed is 3000 fps. So it will take around a second to reach a thousand yards. That is slow enough to see the path.
@toddk1377
@toddk1377 Жыл бұрын
At distance, when you can see the vapor trail on camera, it appears slower, but the vast amount of distance it's covering in that time is not comprehended while viewing from behind. If it was possible to have a side view of that vapor trail, by no means would that appear slow. Having shot a 1k yards, in person, seems incredibly far, the camera does it no justice, especially when zoomed in. Shooting a 50BMG at that distance, the round may look like it arc's a lot, but when you compare the numbers to let's say something like 308 or even 6.5 CM, far less drop, especially with a bullet that has such good BC like the Amax does, which I believe is 1.06 if I'm not mistaken. The numbers are also very impressive with some of the cheytek rounds when comparing to other magnum loads like that of the 300WM, 300PRC, 338LM, ect.

I really like your review of the SRS and the perspective you came from. I have had an SRS-A1 since they first came out. First in .338 Lapua, then .300 WM with factory 26" barrels throated deeper for longer than normal COAL. You mentioned the magazines and how it would be nice to have AICS mags for commonality with other platforms. In many ways that would be nice, however one of the best things about the SRS is the magazine length allowing 4.00" COAL in the magazine. This allows seating the Berger 300 grain OTM's with the shank / boat tail juncture at the case shoulder / neck juncture for optimum powder capacity. This is especially helpful with long turned solid projectiles too. In any event, the SRS has a lot of good tactical benefits too, out of position, and off-hand standing or kneeling positions are easier with the SRS's weight being closer into your body. As you found, the SRS is solid and accurate with a great trigger. It supports longer barrels much better than a traditional rifle, by clamping on 5 inches of 1.25 diameter barrel shank, as opposed to the Remington 700 with less than 1 inch of 1.0625 threaded tenon. Reduced barrel harmonics and rigidity very similar to a benchrest target rifle with a barrel block. I do appreciate your review from a military standpoint very much, great job! I will be looking forward to more of your work!

Mr. Heny & Mr. Josh, Thank you guys for doing this. Really appreciate getting to see this rifle in operation throughout a consistent KD course of fire. I had sent an email awhile back about this platform, & figured if an honest review didn’t happen… either you guys were busy with other projects, or felt it wiser to not entertain some rando reaching out for shooter assessments on particular weapon systems. Either way, totally understandable & I would never pester anyone. Again, I really appreciate it. Great post range breakdown too. I 100% feel y’all on the thermal issues IRT suppressors. Reminds me of the old mk13 SWS. It had an unorthodox (for the time) end of barrel design. Essentially it was meant to be shot with the can 100% of the time. I wasn’t completely on board with that logic, but I was just a student at the time and knew better than to argue with the cadre. Mirage was always an issue after about 30 min or so on the range. It didn’t matter what the conditions were on the range that particular day. Just as you guys said, as you put rounds out and the system (particularly the can) accumulates heat, you will have to contend with that mirage through your sight picture. The ole girl got me through the unknown distance shoot 1st time go however, so I will not hate on her. Awesome video fellas. As always, Watch your six, & keep your powder dry 🇺🇸

Henry, you're showing your age. I've still got one of those green log journals from the late 80's/early 90's. I would have gone with a .338 WM with a 230-250 grain bullet for my long range cartridge. A touch more recoil but the 20% increase in down range energy really helps with the wind bucking.

Super fun to watch the round soaring through the air and the turbulence coming off of it. PS. Round is clearly cooking, 100 and 200 the round is moving fast enough that you don't really get the chance to see it. 300 is the first time I caught a glimpse of it, but 400 it's clearly visible and then each subsequent increase just gives us more time to admire it sailing through the air.

Had two friends that worked for desert tech as machinists. Both said the SRS series is the only guns they would ever buy from them. The rest, the teams I guess just aren't as passionate. But the people running the SRS group to them, make sure this are great rifles.

That arch tho. Damn. But solidified my decision to keep my 7 mm rem magnum hunting rifle as a "precision" rifle. I got it to hold a 5" group at 400 with cheap glass and Hornady box loads. I just want to bed the stock and custom make some mags for it, as well as get a new scope

I cannot for the life of me ever find the mag release button on the right hand side of the stock when I am using a bag. The covert in 308 is where the real fun is, especially when your can is in ATF jail and you want to irritate your spotter

I have always shot my 300 win mag with a break. But I also tend to pick times where I’m alone at the shooting range. The last time I was at the range I was shooting next to a guy and his wife that were dialing in her hunting rifle. An older gentleman came and took the bench on the other side of me. He set up his 300 with break and shot 3 rounds to confirm his zero then left. I had never shot beside anyone else who had a break. After he left I apologized to the couple beside me and stopped shooting for the rest of the time they were. I can only imagine how bad it would be in an inclosed space.

I’ve never seen more clear crisp bullet trace’s on film. I’ve noticed that shooting .45ACP on days where it’s sunny out I can sometimes actually pick up the round because it’s so slow. As it goes from shadow to sun to shadow it shimmers and you can see it. I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me until my brother said he saw it as well.

I've got an A1 in 338LM with a Razor gen2. Its bananas, had hits at 1500 yards, and 8" gongs at 650 are easy even in blustery winds. Gen2 is good because its heavy, handloads are 5,100 ftlbs at the muzzle, 285gr at 2,900fps. Always suppressed.

Great video! A few tips to help with increasing proficiency on the SRS: if you move the scope rearward (aligning the ocular lens with the rear of the Picitanny rail) and add two spacers into the butt it will help with bolt manipulation, also allow your elbow to move forward and backwards during cycling. Your comment on brakes is spot on. I run double ear pro if I am shooting unsuppressed. Lastly, you are firing the SRSM2 it has a one piece tapered rail and at a rail system. The A2 doesn’t have those options.

A couple cool suggestions for future videos might be the G43 or K43 and the SVT-40. It would even be better if you acquired sniper version of those rifles but I know those are extremely rare to come by. You have done most of the other main WW2 infantry and sniper rifles, these ones feel left out.

Great video as always, when it comes to the necessity of the "one shot one kill" there is nothing that compares to running a magnum. As an American it hard for me say that I am anti 30 cal as they are just not efficient enough, that is until you get into the 300 win mag territory. The WA 2000 is the perfect example of the maximizing the effectiveness of the "one shot one kill". This is also the reason why 338 lapua magnum has become so ubiquitous with sniper units as it provides better efficiency.
