Heyyy Everyone!
These are my tips to get your hair to loc faster or things that you might be doing that could be slowing your progress down! These are things that I have learned from my personal experience so it may or may not work for you and that's okay! We all find ways to manage our hair and we are all not the same :) I've been getting some questions regarding people's hair not progressing or their hair keeps unraveling so in this video I share some dos and don'ts when it comes to starter locs!

Can I just say I love going through the comments and how everyone is saying they started their locs this week or a few days ago. This pandemic has really allowed us for self love, self reflection, and growth. Started my locs on 5/26/20 and I’m so excited about this journey. Good luck to everyone!!! 🔒🔒🔒🔒

To everyone who’s in here talkin bout they thinkin bout startin locs... DO IT. It’s not permanent unless you want it to be. You can try it out for a month or two and if you like it and fall in love w it which I hope you do.. keep it. If not take it out 🤷🏽‍♀️ you’ll never know unless you try! SO TRY ❤️

THIS!!!!! I tell people this too! You def have a grace period to decide if you want to continue your journey or not! But it’s the best thing I’ve done for my hair and I know a lot of other people with locs feel the same way!

Yes! I decided to lock my hair after watching people comb their locs out. It takes a long time and is time consuming but you can always, undo locs without shaving your hair off 😭

(1) I washed my hair.. about 1.5 weeks into my microlocs. I workout and sweat a lot 🙄🙄 so I had to. It actually turned out to BENEFIT me because my hair shrunk & coiled faster into individual “locs”. (2) I tried the stocking cap method, but my head doesn’t feel clean enough. (3) It helps to interlock your hair at least once. If you have a looser texture that keeps slipping after washing , interlocking will help your locs from unraveling, & your hair will coil right back up and into a loc after washing.

Great tips‼️ I started my locs journey 4/20 and just took them out and started over. She did my locs twisted to the left and I just couldn’t take it anymore. They kept unraveling. I prefer clockwise like you mentioned

Water is definitely a must. I started my locs 5/5/2020 so tomorrow makes me 1 month + 1 week! Loving it so far! Also you’re kinda my hair twin 😍 we have very similar texture, length, and density and I have 60 locs so it’s cool getting to watch how your hair progresses!! Love your videos 💕💕

Almost three months in and I have buildup. Not from retwist products, but oil! I've been using castor oil (which is too thick and attracts dirt like a magnet) and I've been using too much! Definitely only apply oil to the root. Do not let the oil coat your locs! And the wave cap wash method is helpful, however, I don't think it washes the hair as good considering I was barely getting the oil out when I washed with a cap! Just some things to be aware of! Still loving my locs regardless

ah I’m starting my locks with two strand twists tomorrow so thank u for this! I was so nervous about the washing part bc I usually wash weekly and I was worried that my scalp would be itching like crazy in between retwists but I’m glad that’s not the case

I’m free form so my journey is a little different but laying in a pillow actually helped my hair to loc and I was washing my hair frequently and oiling it as she said , I also def don’t EVER use conditioner !!! I loved this video would of really appreciated it back earlier in my journey I’m 2 1/2 years loced now and still abide by these rules ❤️❤️

I’ve been watching tons of videos and doing lots of research the past 3 or four weeks… I’ve watched to get locs for at least 10 or more years and I think I’m finally ready! I did a big chop about a year and a half ago…. I think I’m 3c/4a mostly! Everyone tells me that it’s gonna take forever to loc but I’m so OVER my loose natural hair and it hasn’t even grown that much! I use aloe juice to spritz and a mixture of oils and I’m waiting for rise water in the mail 👍🏾👍🏾 As for washing it i want to use a net instead of a stocking cap, I’m just 3 wks in

I’m literally responding to almost every question! When you was like oh when you’re home are you just lounging hair just touching everything I was like NOPE! I wrap my hair up👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I think ppl like the neatness when using a comb. I watched a few videos from Yonnie the Locologist she cringes at the idea of using a comb to twists and combing out the new growth.

I want to start my locs but after watching Yorkie the loclogist has me being very picky about who starts them. If I'm not mistaken she talks about not using gels and a bunch of products and combs, she doesn't even own one. I want her to start my locs but I know she wasn't taking any new clients.

The frizz looks beautiful to me. I’m embracing it, but at the same time.. I don’t like the tangles & inter-twinning when I run my fingers through.. 🤔 I might just wrap the frizz around my locs & see how it goes. I’ve tested on a few, so I hope that method will help them stay neater. The palm rolling thing doesn’t work for me.. it just frizzes back out .

Great tips! Just got my second retwist and I’m a week away from 4mo 🎉 My loctician on both my retwists insisted on doing a style because of how many loose hairs I’ve had and the matting, especially at that back. I leave it in for a little while but I agree with you, better for them to just be free to run about the cabin. The frizz and “messiness” doesn’t bother me at all but these curly ends can’t stay away from each other 🤣🤣
