Yeah. I've had issues with that too.

You have to wipe off the case holder with your finger each time. One small chip will cause case to be to different lengths.

once I got it dialed in and used the length adjuster the "correct" way, I found it really consistent. I use the drill version now. I use it on new brass to get a little more chamfer.

3M pads also work well. No steel splinters.

No polish on the pads. I tumble the brass after sizing and trimming. I will swage and clean primer pockets and flash holes if need at this time also. Then tumble clean. I put a teaspoon or two of liquid Turtle Wax in the corn cob media when new and blend it in thoroughly. That way the brass comes out clean AND polished. Also keep the corn cob media clean longer by throwing a couple of used dryer sheets in with the brass. After tumbling, pull out and throw the dryer sheet away with all the dirt it picked up. I trim .300 blackout and .30 carbine using the drill and cutter with wood ball. I works great for me. It would be nice if Lee made a chamfer for the old tool as well but, as someone mentioned, it only take a second. A mechanic's glove on the hand that you use to tighten the case in makes things go faster.

That's actually not necessary. Simply screw it all the way in so the shell holder will bottom out. The trim length adjustment on the top of the die will provide a small amount of adjustment. FYI - As someone else mentioned the amount of trim length adjustment is not that great so if you're planning to go way outside the box for a specialty type round I'd suggest the Trim-it case trimmer in my other video. It would work but slowly. 1/8th inch is just over 3 times what I take off to make a 9x18 out of a Luger 9x19 case. Stay tuned though because this summer I'm going to be reviewing Lee's powered accessory that attaches to this trimmer.

Resizing is required before trimming for the exact reasons Anno described. It's even stated in Lee literature / instructions.

I have similar issues. I just went back to the first trimmer the guy showed. Mine doesn't seem to cut that well either. It was the 303 British version.

I find the original one is far to inconsistent and requires a lot of time unlocking and locking the brass to check the size I'm hoping this quick trim can help make things a little more consistent.

Sorry to hear about that, the Quick Trim is a one size fits most kind of item but it looks like it's not going to fit your needs very well. If you plan on doing a ton of 30-06 and 5.56 trimming then I'd suggest the Trim-it case trimmer. It's just about infinitely adjustable and it's as fast as your hands and drill can go. I've never had an issue where by pistol brass has required trimming from normal use so I really don't consider it necessary. While admitting that I've never reloaded 30 carbine I'd be surprised if trimming was very necessary due to it being a straight wall case. The .223 brass on the other hand can rarely go over 2 reloads without requiring a trim. So my recommendation is that the .223 die is a must have, the 30 carbine is a strong maybe but probably not as important, and the 9mm (I'm assuming 9x19 AKA 9mm Luger) not necessary at all unless you are using the brass for unusual project loads or competing in target competitions. Good question.

There is some movement but it's repeatable and a non-issue. The dies are setup with the ram fully extended with all slack out of the system. Could there be a slight accuracy impact between a property setup breach vs. screw-in die setup? Of course, but at that point you're in the 600+ meter territory swapping in new barrels every 1,500rds due to throat erosion.

Same here. I use the Lee three-jaw chuck and perform the complete trim, chamfer, polish process in one step. By getting good loading/unloading the chuck, I can cycle maybe 4 or 5 cases per minute.

What stretches cases is being fired. Generally a eound seats in the chamber by the shoulder stoping at the front bevel then when it is fired the case expands to the maximum distance between the bevel of the chamber and the front of the extracter/front of the bolt. The way we overcome this is by trimming the few ten thou off the neck.

I blow mine out with a air compressor into a card board box out every twenty five rounds. Make sure you blow out the right end. You don’t want oil in the end that holds the case.

You are correct that it'll require a resize but when reloading it'll always require a resize. If a case requires trimming then it'll always require trimming in some form or fashion. I personally find this faster to use than the old Lee case trimmer even when the brass is chucked into a drill because it takes more time chucking the brass vs. throwing the brass into the case holder on the press. I will say that I've moved my high volume reloading (5.56 and .300 blkout) to the EZ-trimmit device but the quick trim is still the best/fastest method I've found to turning 9x19 brass into 9x18 MAK brass. There's a collar to adjust it. Max setting will get you to the minimum trim length in the load books, then you can back it off from there if you don't want to trim down to the minimum length. I can never get these to give me consistent brass length. Every case comes out different for me. Maybe I got a bad one...

That's exactly my stance as well. There are better (and WAY more expensive) options out there. I consistently get a length +-0.001 as long as I make sure I don't rush it and don't go too long as to let the deburr/chamfer blades continue cutting. For extreme precision I'd recommend the flat version and then deburr/chamfer by hand. There is a special Lee Quick Trim Die that you'll need to buy for each caliber you wish to trim. The best price for Lee products is usually factorysales.com but I always recommend to still shop around at a few other places for possible sales.

No need to apologize for the multiple questions because everyone was new at some point. While having a uniform case mouth is important it should already be like that unless the brass had been damaged then I just toss it. The reason behind sizing brass is because all bottle neck brass cases will stretch while resizing during the reloading process. A bottle neck case is anything that necks down for the bullet such as this .223 or a 30-06 etc. but straight wall brass such as a 9mm Luger or .45 ACP doesn't stretch or stretches so little it's not an issue for the life of the brass in most cases. Eventually, the brass gets so long that it starts forcing it's way into the rifling of the barrel. If the edge of the brass is forced into the rifling it's being pinched onto the bullet much tighter and will create more pressure when firing. The best case scenario this leads to a damaged bullet and bad accuracy but worst case scenario is that this could lead to an over-pressure situation damaging the rifle and/or yourself. Each barrel is different and some rifles will accept crazy long brass and some require nothing less perfect minimum spec case length. There is a maximum/minimum case length listed on the reloading data and as long as the case is between those two measurements after resizing you'll be fine unless it's some crazy custom barrel. I've had problems with case spin, even with clean, dry cases and die cleaned with brake cleaner. After sizing with lanolin/alcohol I have tried boiling them in a pot of soapy water, rinse and dried them in the oven at 220F about an hour, not hot enough to anneal. Squeaky clean, if only a little discolored. Still spin. #$%^&* I finally gave up and went back to the case length gauge and trimmer method, it just works every time.

Richard Craver were you using a high speed drill? I found out that you have to use a sliwer speed drill. The instructions warn about using too high of a speed.

Correct. Once the designated length is reached it'll stop cutting. To adjust the length use the black adjustment ring near the crank.

The little tray included caught most of the shavings. Keep dumping that tray out and it'll be fine.

I recommend it or the standard Lee Trimmers for the majority of shooters. If you're looking for super long rang (600yrd+) accuracy from your brass then you'll want to look elsewhere and spend much more but for the rest of us either works fine. The simple Lee case trimmers can be more accurate and less finicky than the quick trim but you'll lose that when you chuck it in a drill.

A REDTAIL This trimmer has a different die for each caliber so the two I use here are the 9x18 die for my pistol and the .223 quick trim die for the .223 rifle case.

We have similar "friends".

There's a rubber bushing inside the trimmer die that grabs it. I thought it may wear out but I've trimmed at least 10k pieces of brass on the 300 blackout die with out any slipping. Even after I upgraded to the powered adapter.

tom seal Yeah I wouldn't just assume out of the box it's set currently. Just bought a set for my 6.5x55 swede which will make trimming so much easier and consistent. And yes cutters wear out but would need to do like 10,000's or even 100,000's rounds before I would start doubting it.

I was referring to the part when you picked up a piece of brass that appeared not resized with the primer still in it. You trimmed it, maybe to resize later. When you resize it will "grow" again just like firing it. You know what happens when you fire and the brass flows. It flows again when resized. So, if that piece of brass with the primer still in is resized (it appears it wasn't) the brass will flow again. It may be short enough not to need to be trimmed a second time. I was just making the point that if you resized the brass then trim, you will trim more brass but the finished length will be correct. I'm sure you know this but someone new to the hobby,watching the video may not know to resize then trim. Thanks for the great video, and I have several of those (the cutter head and die bodies for each caliber) on my wish list. I've used the same Lyman universal trimmer since 1983. Man, that thing will put blisters on your fingers. I got the adapter to use it with a drill, many years ago now, when my two sons started shooting but it's still a PIA. I love the way the Lee cutter head trims, chamfers, and deburs in the same operation. As you seem to be well aware, brass prep is a very tedious and time consuming process. This appears to be a great piece of gear.

Lee doesn't make a trimmer for 300 blackout. Watch my recent review of the Trim-it case trimmer. They have a 300 Blackout die for their trimmer and that's what I'll be using once I build my 300 blackout upper.

Are you asking how I know to what length I'm trimming? If so then the trimmer is preset to be within spec. You can adjust the trim length to better work with your particular rifle but any chamber that's still within SAAMI specifications should be fine with without additional measurements. You should always still spot check every aspect of the reloading process to verify everything is working correctly. Thanks for watching.

I've had several trimmers, and even the hand crank Lee is faster than anything remotely close to this price range.

Mine won't lock in clockwise. Too tight.

As noted previously this was simply a demonstration of the trimmer. Also, for 3-gun ammo all you need is safe ammo not sub 1" moa ammo. Trimming the brass will keep the neck out of the rifling then it can be run through a progressive press. 3-gunners run through a ton of ammo and rarely need to reach out beyond 50yds. For bench rifle shooting yes size before trimming but otherwise know your rifle, know your shot, and load accordingly. Thanks for watching.

Didnt see it was a demo. Good review. I use all Lee die sets in my presses except my Dillon SDB. I like alot of the Lee products.

Per the instructions it states it, "can be installed so that the lock groove doesn't line up..." It doesn't impact operation beyond a slightly quicker die change. If you have updated instructions please let me know.
